  • I continue my cruise to Foxton Locks, it's a dull day, can it get any worse and why am I heading to my destination at Bridge 40. This is a cruise on the Leicester Line Summit of the Grand Union Canal heading northwards to the staircase flight at Foxton Locks.

    Evening Alan, oh my what a dose of weather you had. Still, a thoroughly enjoyable cruise. I remember a stretch of the canal on the way to Gayton junction was covered in reeds on one side, really made it quite narrow. Many thanks for sharing....🍷🍷

      @MyNarrowboatVenture  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Evening Steve. It was certainly wet but only for a short period. Reeds can be a nuisance but in a few areas where I recall them narrowing the canal, it hasn’t seemed so bad this year. All the best 🥂

    Thanks for another great video Alan. Here in outback Australia the talk is also about rain, but rather the lack of it! A measly total of 6mm for the last 18 weeks. It's only a few days until the start of winter and the daytime temperatures are still around the 25 degrees Celsius mark.

      Thank you so much, very kind of you to say. I've been watching 'Outback Truckers', which I find very interesting, the episodes I've seen were filmed in 2017/18 and there have been so many which have referred to the lack of rain and the problems it causes. I hope it cools down for you soon and you get the rain you need. Cheers

    Hi Alan. Well that was a nice wet & windy day but i have to say the amount of weather forcasts we get are often wrong.
    Amazing how the weather forgasts can not be more accurate in the modern times. Take care & keep safe.

      Hi Bob, I was experimenting with the trial weather data from the Met Office but it's no different than usual, still often wrong. So I've gone back to the existing version. All the best, take care.

    Hi Alan. . . that was a wet cruise !!!. It certainly messes up your plans when the weather is forecast wrong. Looking forward to seeing your video about the old railway. . . we have just returned from walking the Monsal trail in Derbyshire and it really stirred up my imagination on how the railway would have looked in its working days. Thanks as always for sharing.

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Mark. I always like to imagine how a railway was when working. I'm not so familiar with the Midlands railways, as I was with the South West. I used to travvel all over, looking at what was left! Cheers

      @markrutter5996 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MyNarrowboatVenture As with all railways that were taken out of service it’s such a shame that they are no longer working. I suppose we should be thankful that we can walk some of the. We walked the Perranporth to Goonhaven line in the south west that’s about 3 miles long. . . I’m still not convinced that they don’t need that service as the train now terminates at Newquay and Perranporth is such a vibrant and busy seaside resort most of the year. I can only dream.

      @@markrutter5996 It's good to see though that some stations are re-instated, often in a slightly different location, either to meet current standards or that the original position is no longer available. It's years now since I was down that way.

    Greetings both. Good to meet up with you although briefly at Weston Zoyland. Grand weather and our extended family enjoyed it immensely, especially my great nephew.. Thanks for explaining the building crack. It was a toss up whether to watch the Post Office Enquiry or you eating a cheese topped roll. You won out closely. Hope you had a reasonable return trip. Nice vlog Alan hope you were careful going through bridge 34 as you might have hit the skier off the blue boat that passed you, I don't think I've ever noticed so many canoes behind narrowboats any reason take care .😊

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks Robert. I think the canoes are used to give extra storage space. I’ve noticed some have a generator and fuel cans in them or other bulky items, possibly wood. Some boaters will use the canoe for transport to go somewhere locally. Cheers

    Hi Alan. You mentioned the Rugby to Stamford line. I originate from a village called Seaton (Rutland) that was on that line. My dad worked on Seaton station as porter etc. The line must have had a branch line to Stamford because as far as I can remember the line was originaly from Rugby via Peterborough to Harwich....we always called the train....the boat train....until Dr. Beeching closed it all down in 1966. Maybe you know more and can correct me on anything I got wrong....btw about a mile from Seaton Station there was..and still is the Welland Valley Viaduct...not very much in use nowdays for passenger traffic...mostly now used for goods trains. and a few special event trains. Stay well and stay safe

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Roger. Interesting to hear about your father, Seaton was on the route to Stamford. I don't have all my Railway maps with me but from some quick research Stamford Station was built in 1848 for the Syston and Peterborough Railway. Stamford is on the way to Peterborough from Rubgy. It looks to have been a junction station with a varied history. Harwich is a long way from Peterborough and there were originally various routes to get there. I think it may have been the Welland Valley Viaduct I went to see with my father some years back. All the best, take care.

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Philip, it is correct. The pilings are pushed into the ground to retain the towpath/bank and the Armco barrier is fitted across the top. Some boaters use the term pilings, I always say Armco. Hope that explains. Cheers.

    Like your new angles but could you watch out for those irritating noises that the under 30s seem to enjoy? Things like increasing the volume when stirring your tea or putting the microphone very close to your mouth while eating - it sets people's teeth on edge! Other than that, enjoy the unpredictable weather 😉 & yes every app gives a different forecast lol

    • @MyNarrowboatVenture
      @MyNarrowboatVenture  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Many thanks but I haven't done the things you are suggesting - no increase in volume and no mic close to my mouth when eating, the sounds are as recorded. I am aware different sound systems produce different results, so it's impossible for me to predict how the viewer will hear it. Stirring the tea was affected by the nature of the mug, nothing else. Cheers, thanks for watching and commenting.
