The Grey Junglefowl (Gallus sonneratii), also known as Sonnerat’s Junglefowl, is a wild bird species native to the Indian subcontinent. It is one of the ancestors of the domesticated chicken.
Grey Junglefowl males are known for their striking plumage, while the females, though more subdued in color, have their own charm. In this video, we observe a female foraging on the forest floor. Junglefowls forage by scratching the ground with their feet to uncover food, using quick, repetitive movements.
They generally forage throughout the day but prefer shaded areas of the forest or cooler times, such as early morning and late afternoon, to avoid the heat. In our experience, they often forage along the sides of trails, just like this female Grey Junglefowl.
While foraging, females stay alert for predators, frequently pausing to look around and listen for danger. When this female found a ripe fruit, she picked it up with her beak and ate it piece by piece. Junglefowls eat a variety of fruits depending on availability, including berries, figs, and other soft, fleshy fruits. These fruits provide essential vitamins and minerals.
By consuming fruits and dispersing the seeds through their droppings, Junglefowls play a vital role in seed dispersal, helping regenerate their forest habitat. Enjoy the video.✨

It's taken from the car window, so the junglefowl didn't get alarmed, allowing us to capture natural behaviour.
