A few weeks ago I was in Texas for the eclipse and received the N5XO beacon on 1296.424 MHz with my AirSpy R2 mini from my hotel in San Antonio. First time I had received anything other than my own test signals on 1296.
23cm is very popular here in southern VK7. Every Sunday morning there's a 23cm net on 1296.150 FM (possibly the highest concentration of IC-9700 radios in the country!)
I don't think there'd be anything for me to hear on that frequency where I am. What I'm going to do though, is see if I can generate a signal at that frequency with my nanovna. It was supposed to go to 1.5ghz, but I've not needed to use it anywhere near that high. If that works I'll try receiving it with my cheap little sdr dongle. Maybe there is something in my area.
Very interesting. Could one use a similar style antenna be used for receiving L-Band satellite or would it have to be redesigned for circular polarisation?

Mt Wellington is the place to face during that net, horizontal polarised...
Pretty cool antenna. I can only listen as well but now I'm curious what's going on there. Thank you for the helpful information.
Camera upgrade? Some shots are now noticeably sharper and more hi-def than others.
23cm transverter for the 817?
I love the duel diamond antenna. Yours looks primative but its a test antenna
and appears to work well.

23cm is an underrated band. It's good fun to play with!
ROTA, Roof on the Air.
How many points for getting onto and activating Jeffs Shed?
I'm interested in 23cm I'm going to investigate a 23cm transverter for my ft-817 I'm guessing that it'll transvert from 70cm upwards.
