Such a helpful Vid bro.I now have everything you listed in your binder.Am so keen on improving my game that my wargaming hobby is taking a massive back seat to my new love of Rping and Dming. Cheers again mate and keep up the VIds
Really useful stuff, I can see me grabbing a lot of this stuff. I really like the Raging Swan Dungeon Dressing stuff both for inspiration and immersion. I picked up some of the individual pdfs but they've just released a compilation (GMs Miscellany) which I bought in hardback because I knew I'd use it a lot. Well worth checking out, its based on Pathfinder but most of it isn't system specific.
Hey everyone! I just uploaded an update to this video. Check it out if you're interested to see what my binder looks like in 2017! th-cam.com/video/gGyE3ydjG0M/w-d-xo.html
Thank you!!!! I got some of these and I especially like the Book of Challenges & The Dungeon Alphabet...Your list: 1. Pathfinder Beginner Box Game Master Guide, 2. Dungeon Master Johnny Puzzle Creation Guide, 3. Pathfinder Game Mastery Guide, 4. D&D 3.0 Book of Challenges, 5. Dungeon Crawl Classics (Appendices), 6. The Dungeon Alphabet, 7. Sky Flourish's The Lazy Dungeon Master & Dungeon Master Tips, 8. PhDnD's Immersion Tables, and 9. 650 Fantasy City Encounter Seeds & Plots. How about "The Perilous Wilds" (the Drunkens & Dragons guy reviewed it & I bought a copy and it is pretty good stuff for wilderness adventures) and the D&D "Dungeonscape - An Essential Guide to Dungeon Adventuring" (especially chapter 4). The Legends & Lairs "Traps & Treachery" books have some ideas in it too.
Thank you, I just started running and have been looking for some stuff to start a DM folder. Though I do know I am going to be adding in addition to as many of these as I can the hack master fumble and spell mishap tables.
I've got a folder on my desktop where I keep everything I have. I've got pretty much everything published by Paizo for their Pathfinder system, as well as a few "splat" books for Races, Classes, and other things. I also have the complete set of AD&D 2/3.5E books, in case I ever wound up playing either of those systems, but also for reference material when dungeon/adventure building and such.
I don't know why but when he said "everyone had been asking him to show what he had in his binder" it made the childish side of me giggle a bit. Ditto the bit where he talked about it starting small and growing bigger. Side note: I'm starting Mutants & Masterminds and have a large notebook for stuff (I have older games I'm porting characters, setting, plots, etc.... over) and I have patches from my DC Collector's box and now I know what to do with them. :)
I'm new with D&D. As I was the one that got my friends into D&D, I decided to become the DM. After watching this video, it seems a little overwhelming for a brand new DM such as myself. Would all of this be necessary right from the start or would I build up a binder like this over time? For now, I bought the 5e starter box and I'm working through that with my friends.
thatPUNKdude This is stuff I've compiled over a 15-year obsession with D&D. It is by no means a requirement for a new DM. The starter set is absolutely fine just starting out. If you're looking to up your D&D game, check out the Dungeon Master's Guide from 5E. Lots of similar stuff in there!
Hmm, maybe I should check out that Game Master book from Pathfinder. I always recommend Game Master's Law from Rolemaster and the AD&D DMG for the same reasons. I really like the Dungeon Alphabet as well. I have it in hardcover. :) The tabs look handy. I'm in the process of making a general fantasy binder and I've been slowly printing out things to go into it.
I'll have to check out Game Master's Law. I have the AD&D DMG kicking around here somewhere! I would love to see a video covering what's in your fantasy binder when you get it compiled, Tim.
aFistfulofDice since the PDF is free on the paizo website, would a print shop be okay with printing it? I have no experience here, and I wasnt sure if you used a personal printer or not
well could go find a local print shop, though can get costly. but so can printing at home so seems like almost anything you do costs money. perhaps if you have a laptop get the PDFs for it then bring up the info when needed? I know in many programs you can add bookmarks and go to them when needed
After watching 5 or 6 videos on adventure binders, I've noticed that none seem to pay much attention to what shops/services/temples/etc would be available where and what they'd have for sale. Now I'm curious...how do other GMs handle this?
I'm not a new DM. I've been holding campaigns for at least five years now, but most of it being D&D. The question that I have for you is: the difference between pathfinder and D&D. Would something useful for pathfinder be useful for D&D? I am always trying to improve the gameplay for my players and any help you can provide would be fantastic. (I've already watched your "Five...etc." videos and found them very useful.)
aFistfulofDice same error. Do you have a different link possibly cached? Even tried different web browsers. The server at www.afistfulofdice.com can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed.
Just visited the side without any problems, and since I visited it for the first time it can not be cached. ***** : Sounds like the DNS-Server has some kind of problem.

Great video Matt perfect advice for the novice GM. I'm gonna feature it tomorrow on the Nerdarchy FB fan page 7/19 at 12 pm eastern time.

As a new DM this is amazing to see. I have many ideas know on what to add to mine.
***** That's the idea!

Those patches look like Boy Scout patrol patches. Good choice !

Think I'm gonna have to replicate this.. Great vid, amazing binder.
Dave Godzilla Awesome! Share your binder once you've put it together.

OK I found it thanks for having this list online
Hey, could you re-up the pdf? Thanks!

RPG: Adventure Creation Binder COMPLETED
Juce Right on! I'll check it out.

thatPUNKdude I did the same as you did but I didn't get the 5th edition starter set and I've only played 1.5 and 4th edition

I'm intending to put one together once I have a decent printer...

Love it!
Here is my VR showing my adventure binder.
Adventure Binder
Keith Hershey Jr. Yesssss!
How would I contact DMJ?
He seems to be inactive on everything.
I am looking at your website for a list of what you have in your dm's binder where can I find that out
After watching 5 or 6 videos on adventure binders, I've noticed that none seem to pay much attention to what shops/services/temples/etc would be available where and what they'd have for sale. Now I'm curious...how do other GMs handle this?
Do you have an updated website that list all these tables?!?
I'm not a new DM. I've been holding campaigns for at least five years now, but most of it being D&D. The question that I have for you is: the difference between pathfinder and D&D. Pathfinder is 3.5 D&D with some streamlining and other minor differences. They're almost interchangeable.
aFistfulofDice Thanks so much for clearing that up for me. And please keeping making videos! I find them very informative as do my players. :)
The D&D Book of Challenges link on your website leads me to a page that just has "related links" but nothing else. No downloads or anything.
And is it the GM Kit i should download? That PDF is different from what you have in your binder.
I was wondering what page numbers and from what books you have in your binder can't find it on the site.
Donald? Is that you?
(Sniff) it's the best... believe me (sniff)
What happened to your website? The binder content link and main website return a webpage not available error.
Works fine for me! Try again in a few minutes.
aFistfulofDice same error. Do you have a different link possibly cached? Even tried different web browsers. The server at www.afistfulofdice.com can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed.
***** Not sure what to tell you, man. The site is up and working fine for me. I'm sorry you can't access it.
Just visited the side without any problems, and since I visited it for the first time it can not be cached.
***** : Sounds like the DNS-Server has some kind of problem.
It's working for me today. Hurray!
ty ty ty ty!!!!!!!!
Just tried to use the "book of challenges" link, I think it's a dead link.
Same here I wouldn't mind finding the link again
is that your binder full of monsters?
No, it's my binder full of women.
Man, I don't know how you were able to justify to your wallet to spend 25.00 for just using the appendices in DCC.
Michael Costa I mean, I bought the book because I was interested in the system. After reading the rules, I think it's just not for me. :)
No comments? Ok.
There's 65 comments.
+aFistfulofDice Sorry, my time machine landed a bit over a month too much in future.
+aFistfulofDice thought I was the first
Sniffing not kewl. Love your stuff otherwise.
