Jim what if you took the wood laying next to the solar panels and stacked it neatly underneath the solar panels so the wood won't go bad cover the wood with a tarp and make sure the wood is not touching the ground. But it might attract snakes???
You know that if you feed Elvia and Crew in their own kennels next to each other at the same time, they may eventually associate each other with good things and learn to enjoy each other's company. It's worth a try.
Hey you two looking great what you two have done with your solar system towers racks looks good and Jess has a beauty and I did. Did you stone looking pillars to make it look nice you got good ideas Jim got yourself a good little woman there hold on to her brother
Lots of hard work but that is a great solid looking solar rack folks. Fascinating looking grasshoppers. I think I have seen them here on my property too. I always have pangs of jealousy when I see a view of that amazing rainwater catchment car port LOL.
I hope every one had a great TURKEY DAY. I ate the last of it last night. I broke my logging maul. I need to make a log splitter! Thinking of a Car Spring splitter. Some thing easy to throw togather and cheap. I don't like picking at the logs, with the ROUGHNECK SPLITTER, I want to make some thing bust them RIGHT OFF THE BAT> like my maul axe, If it don't bust open on the 1st swing> the 2nd will bust it. I'am getting to old swinging a 8 lbs. maul all day
The gabions will definitely add some rigidity to the structure (and they look great), but I'd still recommend you get some diagonal bracing put up. Better safe than sorry. The to-do list never ends, but y'all never quit! God bkess!
Your solar array is like a sail. If strong winds hit it from behind, there could be damage. You might have been smart to leave a space between panels to allow the wind to vent itself. The structure is strong, but you will have super storms before your life in the desert is done. Love your programs, you are a great couple.
Have you thought about running some screws part way into the columns writhing the gabions? It might help lock the columns into the gabions more solidly because the wood couldn’t pull up out of the rocks in an extreme wind storm.
Beautiful colors on your friend there(: Rocks made big difference ,luv it. Thanks for sharing ✌ Oh she looks upset with her daddy still ): heal fast pup girl
J&J homesteaders you alls sure took your time with this episode. I look forward to seeing your progress every week. Keep pushing forward. Jess is speedy Gonzales and Jim is slow poke Rodrigues
Hi Jim and Jess, great job on the rock bails, they'll reinforce the structure quite a bit but you should still consider some 45 degree bracing at the top of the tall posts. You put 45 degree braces on your other structure that supports your rain collection system for a reason, that same reason exists for your solar panels support structure. Just like the roof of the larger structure can become a "sail" in the wind so can those solar panels. Even if the bracing weren't structurally necessary it should at least visually match, after all that was one of your reasons for the rock bails, which was a very good idea by the way. Until next time
I just upgraded my solar system and am super excited to get it all hooked up. Definitely took advantage of those cyber deals going on right now! Got myself a couple new 200ah LIFePO batteries a 60a victron smart controller and 3 more 195w panels!! Now I need to build a solar rack lol but very mini compared to yours! It’s mainly an emergency backup for our sump pump but I’d like to use it for other purposes aswell.
Gabions can also be used as fence posts , expecially if your ground is too hard to pound a metal post...If you want to corral your animals in an area they work for that too
love the additional gabions, but those solar panels need some serious mopping and rinsing to manage the dust which has accumulated. Rinsing the soap off completely should bring the panels back to their pristine gloss and super charge your batteries. Lluvia is a pup after my own heart---peanut butter is the ultimate enticer.
@@chadfortman8098 That's awesome....that they help others ....and they help them .. But, why you want then for them to join others that do off grid TH-caming in that area? Maybe they already do that ...secretly, not on camera for publicity...
This looks good and strengthens the construction. If you stretch one or two thin strings or wire on top of the solar edge, no bird can sit down and the panels cannot get dirty.
Love the Gabions, I know a guy that did the same 👍 Watching Jim dump that full wheel barrel gave me flashbacks from when I did it myself. Thanks for sharing and as always keep building 👍
We also live off grid on the Arizona desert. Not sure where you two are, but you can't be too far from us. My wife and I would love to meet you two. Like minds!
I really like the gabions! But then, I love rocks! I've seen some of your art Jess. You're really good! I'm looking forward to seeing your home done. 💖
You should have salvaged the 2 x 4s from around the footings. They looked like they were the right size to sharpen and use as stakes. The gabions look good. Good Luck, Rick
Jess, you are smart and funny and Jenn is smart and beautiful! Your approach to your homestead is to be admired! Jess is quite and reserved and Jess is bold and impatient. It works for you two! Love to meet you some day. ❤️🌨NW Colorado. Thanxz
Great job. This has probably been asked before and you've probably mentioned it before as well.. But how much land do you have, if you don't mind me asking.??
Great video as always. Have you thought about investing in a ceramic coat product to protect the solar panels and make them exceptionally easier to clean?
Monsoon season is going to start in six or seven months, do you think they will be able to finish the cladding before then? These side projects are important and interesting, but I am anxious considering how last monsoon season went.
@@chaosplan hopefully they will have time to but, I think they are ok with patching it up with cob if needed. They are taking their time and doing things right. It’s only the 2 of them and there’s a lot to do. If their solar rack fell apart they would be in big trouble. It seems they are giving priority to the most important things that are literally the lifeblood of their homestead.
@@chaosplan They don’t seem anxious at all and they are the ones living it. I’m sure they don’t mind fixing things up if needed. The root cellar collapsing was a huge misfortune, and they have since re-directed the water which caused it, but aside from that all they really had to deal with was patching up the cob.
That has got to be the most colorful grasshopper I've ever seen .
The rocks have an appealing color and texture.
Jim what if you took the wood laying next to the solar panels and stacked it neatly underneath the solar panels so the wood won't go bad cover the wood with a tarp and make sure the wood is not touching the ground. But it might attract snakes???
Of course Jess wins it! She had to build the last gabion so that you could fill it haha
You know that if you feed Elvia and Crew in their own kennels next to each other at the same time, they may eventually associate each other with good things and learn to enjoy each other's company. It's worth a try.
With the wind out there, those are a great addition guys!

Thanks!
Can you cover up the divider between the 2 cages in the dome for the dogs so they can't see each other so you can at least sleep all in the dome.
Good job on that project.
You guys are a sweet couple. Consider yourselves blessed. And I wished I had y’all’s energy.
I was missing Y'all, wanted my Jim n Jessy fix. Thanks for coming through just in time!
6:14 Yep, We didn't come out of the stone age because we ran out of stones!
The red cricket was laying eggs!
Turned out great!
I never met my dad I haven’t ever got along with my mother I’ve been on my own most of my life😊
Good use of those rocks.
Love the love growl.🌼

❤ Forgive me. Have you guys thought about joining other off grid TH-camrs in your area. People require more than just two people😊
People require more than just 2 people?..... WRONG!!!! ..... Why would you need a 3rd wheel.....🤣🤣🤣🤣
They did help others and they helped them

Fishing redflag.
Glad to see Crew! I was getting concerned he was being ignored in favor of the new dog on the block
Love that expansive western orchestral vibe as you were winding down your gabion competition!
Great job as usual! I love that you use material available and are always improving your surroundings. Looking forward to next week's episode.

Solar setup looks good with the gabions.
Love the look.
That looks really great! Glad to see Lluvia healing up well. It was quite big of Jim to "let Jess win." You know, for her "self esteem." LOL
Thanks! Putting a little money towards where my mouth is on my other comment even though I know you're not bound to use it for that.
Until next time
Love the Gabions, I know a guy that did the same 👍

Those wheelbarrows can be tricky.😉😆
Looks good! 😊 We don't have many rocks on our property.
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love you guys, you made a nice hotel for the insects.
Good job! 😎 Those slightly misaligned panels tho... 😱
I was wondering about the big openings for the gabions and you answered the question before I asked :)
Love watching you guys
Love your "captive rocks".
Beautiful gabions! Great sturdy way to finish off your solar structure. I’m glad Lluvia is on the mend. And you two were especially cute at the end!

Hello amazing couple awesome video
@Jackson Dereck thank you for your kind words
You guys make me laugh. Little competition
Thanks for sharing 👍😀happy holidays 🎄
Love the Loft Bling.⛓
Awesome job on a very important part of your homestead.
I always wondered how to do that, thanks for showing us Jess!

In Eastern Oregon they're known as Rock Jacks since so much rock
Great job
❤ maybe have date night once a week
Bailin wire and plyers.....helping country folks since the dawn of the steel age lol

They look great!!
I’m like you guys…reclusive. I appreciate your fine relationship
In case you use 2 layers of mesh with the wires crossing the holes of the other layer, you het the openings to be half the size.
Looks great keep going strong
Glad you're back! Every time y'all do those I think 🤔 'custom snake homes.' How do you keep them out?
Snakes can live in them. We don't mind.😁
hi guys nice work
They look Awesome very nicely done
If you freeze that Kong after you put PB in it it will last her a lot longer :)
Yeah, we've been doing that
Too short! Just kidding I know you put tons of effort into these videos. Love the channel.
Very repairable.
Looks very nice and fits well with the rest.
Great job on the gabions. Love the look of the gabions.
Nicely done!
The gabion looks really great I like them, places for little creatures to live and hide in. Thanks for the video.
That is a wild looking grasshopper

Crazy how they ship lime around thé World
Great job, they look really good!
Job well done to the both of you!
That's really cool guys.
Looks good. God bless y'all.
Looks great 👍👍👍👍👍, did you take old solar ray rack down?
Y'all are rocking it with the gabions. Did y'all finish off the rock pile yet?
Great job. This has probably been asked before and you've probably mentioned it before as well.. But how much land do you have, if you don't mind me asking.??
You guys did realy good job .
Great video as always. Have you thought about investing in a ceramic coat product to protect the solar panels and make them exceptionally easier to clean?
Great project, it turned out beautiful!
Looking gooood!
Love you all, best wishes.
Your sunset looked like a Mexican beach sunset! I have been surprised by buddy heater.
Great job you guy's!!!👍🤗❤
Looks nice. Just wondering when you will get back to the dome roof?
At the end of the video they mentioned they will be getting back to work on the dome.

Jim you don't need too sleep in the dome. Lol. How come All this time, you had easy access too clean your solar panels, Jim?
