The game changed for sure. First and foremost your music has to be above average and capture the listener immediately. That's what people underestimate about Russ, he wasn't just putting out quantity. The quality was extremely good.
Release singles as you said, be in the face of people there's no stopping to what you're signing up for, stay in their faces. Do shows with your singles, record them and post them. Go on IG and talk about your show. Do the dumb interviews or challenges with youtubers. Then you drop the album.

not true. he talks about how his early music was garbage. he got better because he consisteeeently got feedback with his release a song a week method and that accelerated his learning curve.

I've read Russ's book and have seen pretty much every interview with him. Instead of seeing what someone else says I'm just going to do it. I used the pandemic to put 52 songs in the vault and am releasing a new song every Monday of 2021. I'm currently on week 6. So far so good, it's a lot of work but it's very rewarding and exciting. If anyone wants to follow along and see what happens, I'm documenting it on my youtube. My banner literally says "The Russ Experiment" - I'm thinking in a year or two I can come back to this video and give it some context

So a quick update, it's been 32 weeks! Wow! Some songs literally get like 5 plays lol, while others get 10K! It is absolutely harder than I even previously imagined, and burnout comes in waves. Overall it's going well so far, have met some great people, did a podcast and a few insta lives. Will report back - thanks all

I agree releasing singles is better if you are an upcoming artist. Every time you promote a song you grow your monthly listeners on spotify. If you drop an album all at once people won't be able to process it. You are using each single to build your overall fan base and it is easier to promote then a full album. You get multiple chances to promote yourself instead of just dropping all your music at once in one album. Great video

I like this strategy. I also like the EP idea because I have just enough music for one full length album but cutting it in half would give me the chance to see how I'm doing and what buzz gets created.

It doesn't work for everyone . Some people can put out half of what russ did and blow up. Plus linking up helps and russ never teamed up with other artists

I’m trying every fortnight. I’ll see how that goes. I guess it depends too. Some people blow up with only 25 songs others need like 150 songs.

    • @alien-hs1zn

That's why you have to make a catalog before anything if your a nobody you need both quality and quantity and you'll have enough content for people to become fans of yours that's the route I want to go
