A match made in heaven --but never made official. You can tell how smitten they are with each other. I saw them in Winston-Salem in 1994 and they were awesome-Vince played -it seemed all night. Patty glowed around Vince. She was my number one girl for many years.
"What will it say, on your tombstone" - harmonies so powerful the audience claps. Come back again and again waiting for these two to mess up anywhere in a difficult group of passages. They never do! The best.
Wow..what a treasure!...Vince has such a golden voice and Patty has the ultimate Lonesome bluegrass voice...seperately they are awesome...but together they are Gods gift to us....thanks so much for the post!
He started primilary as a studio musician, not sure of the exact venue, but very early on he was in country rock, in "Pure Prairie League". She was from KY, and had deep roots in Blue Grass, but really started in country rock. Later she moved farther into Blue Grass. I have sen him five times, her four. Twice she opened for him, and rejoined him later on stage. One time I saw her at a 300 person private party. That sold the deal for me. Very down to earth beautiful country girl.
The king of duet with over 500 performances. Vince can sign with anyone and makes them the best sounding songs. His voice is as gorgeous as his eyes. I love his guitar playing specifically how he plays in "Oklahoma borderline" It is just wow!
I can't believe this "Dynamic Duo of Country Music" hasn't produced an album together. I would love to have a CD with everything they have sang together as well as a few more classics and maybe a some new material. Personally, I think they have the best "country harmony blend" ever recorded. "Come on Nashville Music Row"...somebody is missing out on a lot of money and all of us Vince Gill -Patty Lovelace fans are missing out on a "musical blessing of a lifetime". !!
Very, very Impressive. He is my all time Favorite! I met him back in the early 80s in The Netherlands. We did several gigs and big concerts with him. Great Singer, musician, songwriter and Band-player as well. What a Voice and amazing guitarplayer!! Credits also to Patty: outstanding rendition. Vince is THE ambassador of contemporary CW.
Great job! Thanks. Saw them in Winston -Salem and was the best concert I ever saw. Saw Patty 9 times over the years. Have all her stuff. Never seen this performance--may have forgot it though. Always thought they had love between them.
These two are just amazing together. Beautiful song and they sing with such feeling. Patty and Vince are two of the greatest singers ever. Pure country ..... Love them both
One of my favorite songs by two of my favorite singers! AWESOME!!! Thumbs up and into my favs. Thanks for uploading this one, Vince Gill has a one of a kind voice and we love him. Rog & Betty
If I'm correct they both started their careers in bluegrass and have awesome talent whether harmonizing or solo in country or bluegrass. Of course Vince is a tremendous musician and can play guitar with the best. Awesome duo for sure. Thanks for postin.
Patty was watching Vince to hit him perfectly because all singers have a different tempo and cadence to every song they sing. This is a great performance from both of them!
Like most of TH-cam, you have to take what you can get. Though the audio is fluttery, this video brought back one of my all time favorite moments in country music.
Patty is still #1 to me. There will never be anyone as good as her. I do follow others though and at the time I wrote that--- I had a weak moment . The dog was my # 1 dog for 18 years--he died in 2011.
I don't think they had something going on...I just think they were reveling in the fact that their harmony was amazing!!!! I think Patty was watching him sing so intently to make sure her harmony was spot on. :)
When my brother was cheating on his first wife, and came home for a visit, this song had just come out. I turned it up real loud in his truck and looked at him meaningfully. We were worried we were gonna get the phone call that a jealous husband had shot his butt... This song still reminds me of him...
As you watch this video look closely at Vinny at about 1:37 as the steel player plays a fill. That steel player was the late "Papa" John Hughey who had been with Conway Twitty for many years. After Conway passed Vinny picked him up. Vinny wrote several songs that would allow John to "run with it as only he could" to quote Vinny. That pairing set Vince Gill's signature sound. Papa John will be sadly missed by country music fans worldwide; especially steel pickers like me.
I remember when I was living in Nashville John Hughey would come in and play pedal steel for fun. Usually at Legends. He would just sit in on the other guys steel for a set. I was awstruck. Especially when I figured out who he actually was. i gave the singer a 10 dollar bill and he let me do a couple while Mr. Hughey was playing, wow what a day.
How are they not married? Lol. Super early in both their careers. They are just so at ease when they're performing together. These early performances.. to me Vince seems so much more comfortable when Patty gets there beside him.
Yeh, awesome, and why not ? They stick together as no-one -else. Their voices I mean!! Thousand times better for ex. as Vince with Carry Underwood. I know she is a million-seller and a very good singer, no doubt, but country..... you tell me!
I disagree with you Sherrill. I do have a trained ear and taught piano and guitar lessons for 30 years. Vince sang lead through this entire song. Patty has a beautiful harmony voice and I wish these 2 would sing more duets together, they would be as good as Loretta and Conway, or George and Tammy. They are awesome by themselves but together they are the best.
Hey lovely "Dog lover" ^^ Patty then is NO longer your #1 girl? how come how sad :/ and yes i fully agree on the fact both were (still?..) smitten w/ each other, neither are fake nor pretending feelings, was so so obvious by the way they were looking and smiling at each other ♥ same thing when back in June they shared stage on the Opry for Patty's 25th ^^ that's a treat to watch, therefore i didn't get why...........:( "the rest" is History and broke my heart.:(
R u kidding me. That is the best duet ever. that is what men and women are here for.
Really. Na. I can't bee
Gill and lovelace: class of 89
There's a bunch of em. Phenomenal.
The greatest duet ever. Fintastic vocals!!!! And Patti looks good.
Got goosebumps the second Patty started singing. God how I miss the 90's country music sound. These are two of the very best.
Two unique voices,Patty and Vince are just awesome as a duet. Thanks for the pleasure.
The most awesome duo ever. The two of them were made for each other.
That eastern Kentucky voice of Patty Loveless.....she's a master of harmonies.
Great female to match with Vince
I will have to say again, that is the best duet in country music!!!!
sick with covid and this just cheers me right up (don't worry not a serious case, I am recouping comfortably at home) What a blessing music can be.
probably the best vince gill song ever, but at the same time he is one of the best ballad writer/singers ever.
You just can't find this quality of entertainment with todays CM. They are the best of the best!
A match made in heaven --but never made official. You can tell how smitten they are with each other. I saw them in Winston-Salem in 1994 and they were awesome-Vince played -it seemed all night. Patty glowed around Vince. She was my number one girl for many years.

WOW So young and so great. Patty knew her role and sang it. Vince knew his and sang it. Together? History in country music was made. Nuff said
I love to hear patty and Vince sing. Their voices blend just right.
Wow..what a treasure!...Vince has such a golden voice and Patty has the ultimate Lonesome bluegrass voice...seperately they are awesome...but together they are Gods gift to us....thanks so much for the post!
Their harmony is absolutely perfect!!
Freakin awesome. Patty can wail on any note...her vocal capabilities are almost endless.. Great mountain soul singer indeed!
Patty is so gorgeous and sings like an angel.
Two of the very best indeed! Never saw Patty in person but I have Vince, man, what a singer!!!
Vince and Patty together with John Hughey on steel was stone cold pure country.....too bad those days are long gone.
He started primilary as a studio musician, not sure of the exact venue, but very early on he was in country rock, in "Pure Prairie League". Sure sound great together..Don't get any better than this..Thanks for posting this.
Two great vocalists at work!! These two are amazing!!
Wow! Patty looks goegeous in this video. What a great duet.
The king of duet with over 500 performances. Vince can sign with anyone and makes them the best sounding songs. His voice is as gorgeous as his eyes. I love his guitar playing specifically how he plays in "Oklahoma borderline" It is just wow!
This is as good as it can possibly get. Tremendous job. Love the song and the singers. Beautiful!
I can't believe this "Dynamic Duo of Country Music" hasn't produced an album together. Rickie Mayo I agree!!!!!
Rickie Mayo Ireland
And you could add the duets they each did with other artists.
Patty's harmony made "Pocket Full of Gold", "When I call your name", AND "Go Rest High on the Mountain" the hits they were!
Very, very Impressive. He is my all time Favorite! I met him back in the early 80s in The Netherlands. We did several gigs and big concerts with him. Two giants in country music..They look so good and sound so good together.
I've said it before, I'll say it again... Wow. They sound so beautiful together.
It just don't get no better than these two!!!
These two are just amazing together. Beautiful song and they sing with such feeling.
Patty and Vince are two of the greatest singers ever. Pure country .....
Love them both

Real Country and sadly it's gone now.

Two very great entertainers indeed!
They are absolutely awesome
Brilliant! Period.
These voices blend perfectly together
Patty was so beautiful back in the day. I mean she is still fine, but wow, she was something else back then.
One of the most beautiful women in the world in her day. Can you imagine how many times a day her first husband kicks his own ass?
Beautiful.
They are magic together!

Patty is still #1 to me. There will never be anyone as good as her. I do follow others though and at the time I wrote that--- I had a weak moment . The dog was my # 1 dog for 18 years--he died in 2011.
Why is Patty wif the beautiful voice way on the other side instead standing beside him....she has a awesome voice.....luv u both...
I don't think they had something going on...I just think they were reveling in the fact that their harmony was amazing!!!! I think Patty was watching him sing so intently to make sure her harmony was spot on. :)

Dam perfect
Awsome!

though the dogs bark... the country must go on...
My opinion of course, but Vince is the greatest singer in country music....and when I say country I mean REAL country.
Could listen to these 2 all day beautiful voices vince what a man
I defy you to find a better duet than that......wish there was something like that today......
Vince and Patty Loveless are as good. Both are fantastic!!!!
though dogs bark, country music must go on...
Between and her, NObody can do that again.
fantastick hehehe
Note to Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Nettles....THIS IS A COUNTRY MUSIC DUET!
I remember when I was living in Nashville John Hughey would come in and play pedal steel for fun. Usually at Legends. He would just sit in on the other guys steel for a set. I was awstruck. Describes our Life except for the Gold
It was Vince and Patty..
what more can you ask?
Vince Gill in his prime.
How are they not married? Lol. Super early in both their careers. They are just so at ease when they're performing together. These early performances.. to me Vince seems so much more comfortable when Patty gets there beside him.

I can't think of the last time that two vocalists of this caliber performed live, just don't make 'em like that anymore !!!!!!
@sm6161 You sure got that right!
These two were meant to sing together.
Great song - bad sound on this video - does it no justice
