Fun Fact: You can always remember whether polar bears are from the Actic or not (they are), by learning a bit of etymology,. Arctic comes from άρκτος which is Greek for "bear" (which is from PIE *rktho- "the brown one"). and ant- meaning "negative" is where we get Antarctic. So the Arctic Circle is literally "The circle with bears" and Antarctic Circle is literally "The circle with no bears".

I've been a fan of Dave Gorman since 'Are you Dave Gorman?'* and it still amazes me how consistently good his one man shows and TV shows are (never managed to see the maths based one though, or at least the clips I've seen were maths based). The call backs, stories and hijinks (especially knowing they're real) would rival any "purest" stand up comedian!
Plus who else is willing to ruthlessly follow the tripe that are horoscopes for a month. Major dedication to detail and excellence! Plus the fella is from Stafford, so I'll always have a soft spot. Keep up the good work Dave mate!

If anyone wants it for some reason, here is Dave's whole mnemonic for Taumatawhakatangi written out:
The angriest uncle makes a terrible auntie when having a kiss and tickling a naughty girl.
I have a nice grandma and kindly older aunt.
Unfortunately, an uncle or two are mean, and their elderly aunts take umbridge regularly.
Independence party UK are kind about polish immigrants.
    Kind? I mean are unkind.
Now, get a helpful older relative, or not helpful kindly uncle.
Prepare all the kids and infants while helping elderly non-uncles (aunts).
Keep it tight, and never agitate the angriest hairiest uncle.

There's a big difference between "we'll give away X pounds" and "we'll award a prize that is exactly X pounds". He didn't say that the value was limited to X.

There's an amount that he's giving away in cash. There's also today's competition prize. Why is DG conflating these two things?

With the real deal they did give away the amount that the object reached in auction every day; it's just that for Mon to Fri they also gave away extra cash ("earned" from all the phone calls and texts) that they didn't do on Sun, nor did they say they wouldn't (nor didn't say that they would).

    • @TheCurrykiev

I'm guessing Dave Gorman knows the real reason for the prize amounts. Don't you think?😊

Around 10 minutes in, turn up the volume so as to avoid the sound quality drop. It will still echo but it is still audible.
