Thanks for another great video Gary. It wasn't until the end that I realised we both had similar jobs. I was an engineering pattern maker. The biggest jobs we turned on the lathe were around the 6 feet diameter. This was done on the end of the lathe with a floor tool rest. I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Thanks Dave and I turned a 6 footer on a pattern shop built lathe. Big timbers for the bed and the legs and castings made from patterns that were made at..you guest it..the pattern shop. When I went to the shop I retired from I turned a pattern about 8 foot in diameter on a large post lathe. Where did you do your pattern work? Which state or country. Not sure where you are from. take care, Gary
@@ThePapa1947 I am originally from the UK, but in 1967 I moved with my family to Australia. Hi Gary. This is only the second time I’ve watched an inside out turning. The first being your valentines one. Very fascinating process, but I think just a bit above my pay grade at this stage. Both amazing results. I’m sure I’ll get there eventually. When I was turning 45 years ago, you made round things, or you made long round things. I love the way turners are now experimenting and inventing new ways to get awesome results!! Thanks for that, Rick
Hi Rick, well lets see if we can get you up another pay grade or so. The first thing I turned was a nut bowl for my mother. We think it is around here somewhere. That was in about 1960 in grade school. Pretty low pay grade back then. Thanks for watching, Gary
Gary, I wish I had seen something like this a long times ago. You explained the process completely. Now I have something to try! Just love the little light effect. It out the cream in the cake. Bless you and be safe. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you my friend, and now you can try it and be successful. I know when I did my first on a few years ago it took awhile to get the idea of how much to cut away. Realizing that the shape really comes from the center line is all it took. So from that I figured this was the best way to explain that concept. Thank you and take care, Gary
I tried this following Gary's method and recommend it with one thought. Havd faith. It seems counterintuitive at times, hard to picture at others, but it works. If you're curious, just do what he says. It's a fun exploration of inside-out turning.
Thanks for taking the time to thoroughly explain the process. I’m still not clear on the bandsaw technique, so I’ll stick with my old method. Good tips on the glue & brown paper. Keep on turning.
Thanks so much Mark. So the bandsaw method would be good if you have never made one or wanted a very special shape. If you have done them before you have a good idea of the process. Thanks for watching, Gary

Very nice! This has peaked my curiosity to give it a try. Thinking the grandkids would like something like that with the LED light inside. Now to find a source for the LED lights. :)
Thank you Larry it should make it very easy and help to understand the process. Here are the lights I bought.
Thanks for watching,

That's really nice.
Thanks so much!
this one done look easy but l like the hole you did to the last one
For sure and this one was to show the method so the other one would be much easier.
Thanks for watching,
Gary
Good idea using pvc to cover chuck while spraying.
Thank you Jon and it does work good.

Thanks for the info. I have not been impressed with my inside turning. Going to try this next time. I bet it will look better. Thanks again Gary
Thank you Stan. I will not offer a money back guarantee but I bet it will look great.
Making a continuous sweeping curve would be the simplest and look great.
Best of luck,
Gary
Gary thanks for sharing.
Thank you Tony and thanks for watching,
Gary
This is on the list to do, Gary! Right after the segmented vase you sent the plans for. (I've been busy building bigger things)
Thank you Clayton, best of luck on both projects.
Gary
Very nice 👍
Thank you Chris!
Excellent video. would never have thought to do that. Will try your method on my next inside out turning
Thank you Geoffrey, I even though I have used this idea for things besides turnings I enjoy trying to work easier methods into everything I do.
Happy you enjoyed it.
Gary
An outstanding how to explanation. this video cleared up a lot of my questions about how to determine the interior of the turning. thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay healthy. PS: Please, a link to the little LED light.
Thank you Glen, I was hoping it would be clear enough. This is no mystery when you can see what happens. I enjoy sharing the "secrets" so others can enjoy as well.
Here is the link of the ones I bought...they are fun. My wife has 3 inside out turnings setup and the remote controls them all.

Great tutorial! Thanks so much for this, and I love that you embrace happy random shapes. Hallmark of an artist. :)
Thank you Lyndsey, I was pretty excited to see that odd shape. All 4 windows could have been that way if I had seen it. But I actually like it like this.
Thanks for watching,
Gary

Not me I get to nervous with that dang camera watching me. Happy you thought it was ok. I was must pretending my friend was there and I was telling him my steps.

Thank you Kimsey. Lots of fun to do and would a lot different than those big hunks of wood you turn into real beauties.
Take care.
Gary
Hi Gary, Thanks for doing this. A great tutorial and one I'm keeping. Doing the final glue up that way made this piece so much better. I have followed Ray for a while now and you are right he is a superb craftsman. Take care Gary. Cheers, Huw
Thank you Huw, happy you liked it. The options are endless for doing this. Happy you liked it and I am sure you will come up with something very clever.
