With the glow shown around Tai Lung in the recent KFP movie 4 trailer, I've had a theory he's actually going to replace Oogway. Because it's the same glow Oogway had in the spirit realm, as Po did too. Which means while Tai Lung was in the spirit realm, he became a master of Chi. Perhaps this is why Kai captured his chi in the 3rd instalment?
At the end of the first movie, Tai Lung was a disgraced student. Perhaps by the forth, when he's pulled from the spirit realm, Tai Lung was focused on discovering his secret ingredient. Possessing the same regret Ooway had, as a former warrior who killed for his own sense of achievement.
Perhaps this is why Oogway rejected him - seeing his former self in Tai Lung? Coming full circle though, he could achieve the same enlightenment as Ooway. Returning to the real world, he can help his former master, Shifu. Reconciling their past.
