I passed my test in 2023 at 53yrs old,I got a CBR 600F4 1999,Love it
@@andrewpatter1943 nice one. Never too late eh?
I got one of those to mate pure classic 👍
I had a 1995 CBR600F3 back in the day, loved that bike. At age 57 I now ride a Harley V-Rod, KTM Adventure, and a couple dual sports.
@@fastdude2002 wow that’s some experience right there. A nice selection of bikes for you. Do you live in a nice part of the country?
@@RideWithStu I live in rural Northern California. I grew up in the country on land so I had mini bikes as a young kid, then dirt bikes by the age of 13. When I was 18 I bought a new Kawasaki KX250 2 stroke motocross. At age twenty I bought my first street bike, a Kawasaki Ninja. I have always had at least one bike my entire adult life, currently I am lucky to say I own five. Riding bikes is one of many hobbies and one of my favorite.
I'm 75 and won a 600RR in March 24. The first time back on a bike in 43 years! So I do understand the feeling of scariness and exhilarating! Love it though, a fantastic adrenalin rush. 👍
@@hargrave2510 massive respect to you for riding one of these 👍🏻
Passed my test on a 700, and a couple of hours later, I was on my 1000. Mines is an almost 20 year old bike.
Love the bike, and it's great to ride.
Felt really weird in the new riding position for a little while.
@@Reaver-cbr1000rr-fireblade yeah the riding position feels so extreme after passing my test on an upright bike. Funny how quickly you get used to it
My first non-restricted bike was a 2007 CBR600RR, I still remember the explosion of pleasure in my brain on my first ride.

Nice to see and hear a video of someone being honest for a change.
I hadn't ridden a bike for almost 30 years before I bought my current bike so the anticipation and nerves were just the same as yours.
Next thing for you is the Isle of Man 😎
@@mickydebargos thanks for your kind comments and glad you enjoyed the vid. Yeah can’t wait for next year
Good luck with your CBR. I enjoyed your video. I subscribed to your channel so I guess more of your videos will pop into my feed. I started on a 250 Yamaha cruiser back in 1981. I moved up to a 650 cruiser after a few months and once I tried a couple of my friends sportbikes, it was all over. I have only owned sportbikes since. I'm about to turn 61 and I have a 21 GSXR1000R and a 17 CB500F. I never want to stop riding once I get started. There is nothing like riding, every limb has a purpose and it can be relaxing or intense, depending on my mood and traffic, of course. Be safe and enjoy! I'm from NJ in the USA.
@@garvincollins8632 thanks for the lovely feedback. Wow, plenty of experience with bikes there. So nice to know people all over the world are watching 👍🏻
That is a lovely sounding bike. I'll never ever forget my first ride on a sportsbike. As an old school rider from the 1970's I've always ridden classic old 70's stuff (CB 750 Four's/Suzuki GT two strokes etc) but in 2006 I bought a 99 carbed R6 and taking it for my first ride blew my mind. If any motorist happened to be looking at me they must have thought I was mental because I was laughing hysterically at what the bike was doing (and capable of doing) ha ha, happy days.
The only advice I would ever give to a new rider is to do lots and lots of practice at very slow riding, find a huge empty car park type of space and do hours and hours of walking pace riding with lots of turning and u turns, it makes your bike control feel amazing.
@@martynflynn8368 it’s so satisfying and addictive. Not looking forward to the weather turning crap

You mentioned forgetting to turn your indicators off, as you know thats pretty dangerous so try develop a habbit of just clicking the button when you get an opportunity, even if you havent put them on recently.
Better to click them off when they are already off, then leave them on.
@@SpareWoodWork thank you. Yeah need to develop the habit of pressing the button more often. Would highly recommend you get one for mucking around on
Congrats on passing the test, I see it's been a few months but I know that feels like yesterday. I had no intention of getting my licence but one day just out of curiosity I checked the price for a theory test and saw that it was only like 20 quid or something so I figured I'll just book it in to see if it's hard, went for the exam expecting to fail and completely opposite of my luck I passed, questions were common sense.
Obviously that pushed me to go for my practical. Best decision of my life to check the price of a theory test. lol

Good vid my friend.
Beautiful bike, I’m very jealous. I’ve had a few cbr1000 Repsol’s, but never the 600. My favorite way to upshift is to bring the RPM to about 5-6k, then push the shifter up with your foot. It will not allow you to shift until you let off the throttle, then it will smoothly shift into place. This is called clutch less shifting, you don’t need to use the clutch lever at all, it’s very safe for your transmission, and I prefer it over a quick shifter. Give it a try. Ride safe out there my friend.
@@onev9064 thank you! Oh I’ll have to give that a try. Might of actually done that by accident tbh 😂

@@LailorGG can’t beat a lovely sounding exhaust
Maybe not an ideal first bike but it's very flexible and forgiving. You don't have to wring its neck to get the most out of it but be bloody careful you don't run before you can walk. Crack that throttle open and it will send you to the horizon a lot quicker than you expect. Through a hedge if you're not expecting it.

Rev matching is not really needed mate, it sounds great, looks cool and is perfect for the track but what you are missing by rev matching is engine braking which has many more advantages for day to day riding.
@@pinnacle_moto agreed. I’ve tried several times to do it but somehow 8 times out of 10 I manage to leap the bike forward in doing it. Can’t see how it can do the engine a lot of harm in day to day riding
@@RideWithStuit’s not really necessary unless you’re rough on the clutch and like letting it out fast, as long as you’re going slow enough to change down its no issues.
But for dropping a couple of gears to do a pull, which you’ll most definitely be doing on that bike as it’s high revving and has long gears, a blip of the throttle each downshift will make it much smoother since you’d be bringing the revs up. Can’t imagine that’d be too smooth without rev matching unless you’re slowing down.
So yeah, you don’t really have to do it day to day riding, but it does come in handy for smoother downshifting especially when riding more aggressively.
@@mikeadz1 thanks for the tip. It’s gonna take me longer than I expected to get the hang of it.
@@RideWithStu Your front brake is what you should focus on. Practice keeping a digit or two on the lever. In town going light to light I just keep it in 2nd most of the time and rev it. Don't have to worry about downshifting. lol. Stock muffler sounds awesome at high revs.

My first bike back in year 2000 was a brand new yam r6 .
I was crazy and stupid back then .
One bit of advise . About speed .... your brain gets used to it .
What I mean is if you crazy like I was . 100 mph would feel like 50 until people pull out and your grabbing huge amounts of break , and that distance is upcoming way faster than you realise .
I've lost friends I lost a brother all on bikes , did that put me off No ....
Bikes are heaven and depression killers .
Also one thing you should do is some high speed breaking practice---- 30 50-70 mph
Reslly build your confidence up ,trust me that will save your life .
Also do some track days and even a wheelie school .
Not that you want to drive crazy and wheelie on the road lol it will just build your confidence.
You have a sub ... I'll follow and soon hopefully be back on thd road again with a ktm 1290 . 13:27

Hi thanks. They are pretty special aren’t they?
Final message... Enjoy, stay safe. Welcome to the most fun with your clothes on ☺️
You can ride a sport bike all day long if you set up the bikes ergonomics to your body (levers & rear sets position) and use your legs to squeeze the tank and put weight on your feet with very little weight on your hands. If you put your weight on your hands, it will hurt your wrists and back, plus limit the bikes natural ability to self stabilize once bumps.
Your doing great for just passing, keep it up, I'm along for the ride.
thanks for your comments, I try and grip the tank more now and seems to help.
I have a 2002 ZX6R 636 and going long distance does my back legs and hands in,they ain't good for long distance 👎
