  • For the longest time I wondered if they still made transistor radios. I was happy to discover that they did! I saw one for sale, brand new, at one of my local department stores. Then I was lucky to receive one as a Christmas present.
The one that was gifted to me is reviewed in this video. It is the Power Bear AM FM portable radio. In this video, I unbox this radio, and put it through its paces. I go over all the features of this brand new little radio.
So, is it any good? Is it worth the money? Should you buy one of these? Watch the video t find out!
I remember transistor radios were so huge when I was a kid in the 70s, and even well into the 80s. It seemed they became less and less common as the 90s wore on. Still, I always had a soft spot for these wonderful miniature radios. I grew up with the tinny sound of a transistor radio buzzing in my ear. This was how people brought music along with them, long before MP3 players and even walkmen.
I do see used transistor radios fairly often at thrift stores and second hand shops. Often they are in pretty beat up condition. So I am very happy to be the owner of a new one!

Oh the memories! My first am transistor radio got in '68 a blue Gemini. It was like getting an iPad today. I was so exited! spent $ on 9 volt batteries. Finally got a GE rechargeable that ran over 10 years.

Your radio is a clone of the SONY ICF-S10MK2. Almost identical... Maybe the manufacturer of this radio bought the rights to the design. But, on the other hand, since the SONY made this radio in China, it could be an unauthorized clone, and SONY doesn't care enough to do anything about it.
