It is without a doubt their most realized concept album, an absolute tour-de-force in genre explorations and a love letter to music. There are maybe 2 or 3 meh songs on the album, but I can say the same thing about any of their albums. It managed to have commercial appeal and alternative appeal, which tends to be rare. The collaborations are not only well-executed but their appearances also fit perfectly within the concept's scope like beautiful tapestry. And the arrangements on the album are so wonderful, and put it a cinematic step above their other work. Maybe songs like Within and Touch weren't for everyone, but damn, they are some of my favorites the duo has done, and transcend their music above dance into something different altogether. S Tier.
ikr, i really liked RAM, i knew about daft punk for like forever, but i wasnt a fan just kne about them, but then i heard RAM, that opened my eyes!!! It really make me go from " Yeah i know them" to "You have to listen to them!!!"
@Ameer Najarali doesn't mean it's worse than eg. Homework. RAM is in such an awful place, it just gets no respect. Non Daft Punk fans, only know the album for Get Lucky, maybe heard the album once and just marked it as: yeah, it's an album... And daft punk fans mostly are: It's so mainstream.... In the end it weirdly still is just unrespected
@@TimFerber I agree. No one can deny the impact Discovery had, but does every album need to be something super experimental that pushes the boundaries of music? Sometimes we just need music that can take us away to a different world, to a different time; that can make us relive some of our favourite memories. RAM is that album for me; it truly is magical, and in that aspect, I love RAM more than I do Discovery. I just can't downplay how much I love it because of how high quality and well-realized it is. You can tell the duo put their heart and soul into the album, and I adored how thematically the whole album is a tribute to music itself.
Agreed; Touch is absolutely breathtaking. I mean come on, you can't tell me that a keen, unbiased listener, won't sit back and at least be impressed by the creativity and efficacy of the musical passages in that song.
RAM is an amazing album, but Discovery is something else, man. If you want a upbeat music, you got One More Time, Aerodynamic, HBFS, Too Long etc. If you want a more slower, melancholic type of songs, you have Digital Love, Something About Us, NightVision and Veridis Quo. Its has variety and its really THE Daft Punk album.
Hmmm that’d certainly be interesting. I don’t really know if their production styles would go together all that well. Daft Punk is much tighter, while Gorillaz seems like they dick around a bit/try to go outside of established conventions to make weird melodies
@@CalculyticCuber Agreed. RAM wasn't groundbreaking like Discovery, but goddamn was it just so well put-together and so well-realized. Daft Punk were on the ball with RAM, and it still sounds so damn fresh 8 years later. I'm assuming it's going to be a timeless record for sure (like Discovery).
Veridis quo is my all time favorite tracks from Daft Punk, it just hits so deep for me, I just crank the volume and close my eyes, makes me want to tear up when I listen to it and when I saw the news that they were calling it quits I did end up shedding a few tears while listening to it, I don't think we'll ever see a another song quite like it honestly
Yeah I’m glad they still gave us Starboy and I Feel It Coming. They’re the two sides of the Daft Punk coin: laser-tight dancehall banger and cheesy ‘70s crooner
Superheros will always be my favorite Daft Punk track. The way the chords change the context of the vocals when they come in at the beginning is so amazing to me
While I of course love their bangers, chill tracks like Something About Us and Make Love are easily two of my favorite songs from their catalog. Love the sounds in both of them.
@@MrFruitPrimate nah, without the context of fans’ expecting the same house style like their previous albums, RAM is a great stand-alone album. it has a consistent aesthetic with enough variation to keep it interesting. and yeah i’m not the biggest pharrell fan but i personally enjoyed his vocals on this album. whenever a band/artist ventures into new territory fans always bitch about it which i’ve never understood. same kinda people that are counter-culture for the sake of it
"Crescendolls" is my least favorite song in Discovery (I might be in the minority for thinking that), but regardless of that one track, I could listen to that whole album and never get bored. Discovery is by far their best album with some of the most memorable music of all time. I however, would put RAM at an A list. It got record of the year at the time of its release, which is awesome, well deserved. And while I know many people believe "Get Lucky" has been overplayed (I among those people), the rest of the album is just a gold mine of funky bass lines and great melodies that are literally built with heart and soul. I could listen to Fragments of Time, Touch, and Instant Crush on repeat all day lol.
S: Discovery, Homework, Alive 2007, Random access memories A: Human after all B: Tron soundtrack C: HAA remixes D: Daft club F: Tron reconfigured Really good but needs a tracklist: Alive 1997
@Logan Foraker oh I know that's why it's ranked right at the bottom it shouldn't even be considered a daft punk album I just put it there to show my disapproval
it wasn't a dj set, it was a live set. the only difference is that they were playing it via ableton + some other equipment in comparison to alive 1997, that's why it is so seamless and polished
@@marceloaguirree that you can play either from classic vinyl turntables or play from digital cdj players (where you can plug in a usb stick or a flash card). both of them work on a "deck" basis, meaning that you're playing reproduced music and you're spinning the "plate". and you're matching the tempo of two different songs to make seamless blends. whereas an live set is playing not a whole record, but only parts of a particular song via computer or via machines (drums -> synthesizers -> bassline etc). you just layer them and that's it - this works particularly for playing your own stuff (or if you own someone's stems).
totally agree with Discovery in S tier, Veridis Quo is honestly one of their best tracks ever in my opinion, it makes me so emotional when I listen to it, just hits so deep for me, can't help but sit back, raise the volume, close my eyes and let the music take me on a trip
He nailed how i feel about discovery. I remember at 9 years old watching the premiere of the anime on Toonami and even at that age going "What the fuck is this". I heard One More Time and knew that was the first day of the rest of Daft Punks career.
RAM is probably my favorite record of all time, right by Yes - self titled. Touch is so freakin beautiful. If you're a fan you've got to watch Phantom of the Paradise to really see how dope Paul Williams is
Wowww Yes - self titled is great!! I have never heard anyone say it is their favourite Yes record, but for me it definitely comes close. What do you think of the other Yes albums?

Remember being driven to the beach on my 18th birthday to "Human After All/Superheroes" just jamming out to that final bit with friends yelling "human" for a solid minute. Good times
I can understand not loving Human After All, but you have to give it credit for its value in their live album Alive 2007. The tracks from Human complement and mesh with tracks from Homework and Discovery perfectly, almost as if that was why the studio album was made to begin with. If you haven't given Alive 2007 a listen, you're missing out on a terrific live mashup of Daft Punk's best tracks across their first 3 albums. Oh, and it's a great workout album as well.
Should be S or at least A. I dont really see, how this could it be any better ... I watched this (not so great) movie far too often just for the atmosphere created by the visuals and music.
Tron: Legacy and RAM should each be bumped up one tier but otherwise good video, Melon. I personally love the raw, dirty sound of Human After All, but I get the ear fatigue stance for sure.
Got me into house music. And got me and countless other kids messing around with mixing house music. They decided to end it on a high note. They influenced an entire genre, and inspired an entire generation of musicians.
my new favorite passtime is going into Daft Punk twitter threads and watching french people say "PNL is better" and then get absolutely dumpstered by an international coalition of Daft Punk likers
Their remix and melding of Television Rules the Nation and Crescendolls off of Alive 2007 is my very favorite Daft Punk song. When even one of your live albums kicks absolute ass and makes every combination into basically a whole new song you know you’re doing something right. I’m gonna miss those shiny boys.
I honestly think Alive 2007 is their best record, for me it’s the way they pull from across their entire discography yet create an experience that feels completely cohesive and fresh even if you’ve already heard the studio cuts of these tracks, the mashups are always fun and complementary pairings, and the flow and build up from one track to the next keeps me hooked every time. and that fucking crowd man, the audience has this infectious energy and I love the way they react when they heard the first few beats of a track they recognize and freak out once they realize what they’re playing. All the tracks are in perfect synergy, the duo and their audience are in perfect synergy, just a perfect fucking record man. It makes me genuinely sad that I’ll never get to experience that performance in person, but anytime I throw on the record I feel like I’m practically there. I listened to it three times today when I heard the news of their retirement. It never gets old. Rock on Daft Punk
Very well said. I love seeing all of the praise for Alive 2007 in this thread. Alive 2007 was the album that got me into Daft Punk like ten years ago (when I was 14) and it's now one of my favorite records. The last song on the album in particular may be one of my favorite songs ever.
@@zawarchaudry4886 yes. And I discovered this when listening to it again after epilogue, but you can hear rock and roll and revolution 909 faintly at the end
I’ve always said that Steam Machine is incredibly underrated. I love that slight switch up on the last minute of the song. I feel like it had more variety than some of the other tracks in Human After All.
The fusion of Around the World and HBFS in Alive 2007 works so insanely well that it's genuinely hard to believe that they're songs off of two different albums separated by four years. The individual tracks almost feel like two halves of a torn photo to me.
1)Discovery 10/10 2)Alive 2007 9.5/10 3)Homework 9.5/10 4)Random Access Memories 9/10 5)Humman after all 8/10 6)Alive 1997 7.5/10 7)Tron: legacy 7/10 as an album in general, 10/10 as a soundtrack
Daft Punk may be broken up but their legacy will live on forever. I think they’re the one electronic music group that people enjoy even if they don’t like electronic music.
@Luke Not to disagree with Daft Punk's influence on indie rock, but I always pictured Aphex Twin as having the biggest influence on Indie, with the pretty direct link to Radiohead's Kid A and spreading from then on.
Anthony, putting the Tron soundtrack at S tier and then ending the video is very disappointing to some daft punk fans and you may get some backlash for that
Fell in love with the duo as a kid, feels so weird knowing they’re done. I was hoping for one more album but i guess not. Still will be dancing and vibing out to their TIMELESS music !
Melon: "this music is uninspired and corny, 3/10" Also melon: "around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world around the world... 9/10..genius."
Tier S: Discovery - this thing is just incredible. Bangers, ballads, so many emotions captured on the one 61-minute LP. I don't think there would be a single person that doesn't like any fragment of any track from this album. It's just a masterpiece. Alive 2007 - it's like Discovery with an upgrade. Not always a good upgrade tbh, but I didn't know it's possible to transform and combine those three albums into one live set banger. It's so good it made a lot of young people regret that they can't go to their live show. I waited for the Alive 2017 tour, but it didn't happen after all. If it did I would spent a lot of money to see them and it'd probably be worth it. Tier A: Homework - a classic, house banger of an album. Amazing ideas saved on this one: brilliant use of the TR-909, avant-garde of the buzzing noise from the "Rollin' & Scratchin'", hypnotizing lyrics from "Around The World". For their times it was a revolution. RAM - this one holds a special place in my heart, because it was the first album I was so hyped about. The production here is so well executed. They literally BROUGHT LIFE BACK TO (disco) MUSIC and started a whole movement in the pop music. It's amazing how this record sounds like a future from the past. Tron: Legacy OST - this might be a bit personal, but this soundtrack is what shaped my taste in aesthetics. Soft progressive synth in "Armory", "Solar Sailer", "Son of Flynn". It was like a digital sound of the rain. Derezzed - OMG, goosebumps! Amazing record, but ofc the movie is attached to it. Tier B: Alive 1997 - pushing boundaries to the max on a live stage. That was definitely brave and a bit harsh. To be honest it's something I'm not used to, but still this a solid position. You can headbang to it as long as it goes. *bonus* Musique vol. 1 1993-2005 - a compilation album contains some of their biggest hits, but also some "hidden" remixes & a single from the past. That "Mothership Reconnection" remix - DAMN DAT FUNKY BASSLINE. It's also a chance too listen to their single "Musique" for the first time for the people who don't scroll down on dp's discography on Spotify to the end. Tier C: Human After All - personally, I don't like rock music and rock-influenced sound pushes me a little bit away. BUT that doesn't change the fact that this album is somehow-to-a-bit good. The tracks like "Emotions" (which is "Technologic" beat slowed down) and the title track really stand out for me and it's definitely a piece that I don't go back to very often, but I definitely do sometimes. This is my option on their albums. I think they didn't release ANY bad album and I'm glad they were in my life since I was 10 years old. Half of my life with them was a good run filled with emotional moments and it was a hell of a ride. 1993-2021 Long live the R̶o̶b̶o̶t̶s̶ 𝙷𝚞𝚖𝚊𝚗𝚜 𝙰𝚏𝚝𝚎𝚛 𝙰𝚕𝚕
Alive 2007 is S and RAM is A for me. Alive 2007 was absolutely revolutionary and set the bar for performance value in an electronic music scene, and also inspired countless people with their creativeness in a performance that (to my knowledge) hadn’t been done like that before. Multiple songs seemlessly and perfectly blended and mixed together to make something that sounded brand new and exclusive. I have been listening to this album for the past 13 years (since I was 9 in 2008) and I listen to it nearly every single day. And I will not stop doing that.
Devastated to lose them, mourning with the rest of you. Sad that I'll never get to see them live. On an side note, I'd bump Alive 2007 up a tier because it is also the best damn workout album of all time. Great intensity at just the right intervals. I jam out to it daily on my routine.
My personal tier list: S: Random Access Memories, Discovery A: Alive 2007 B: Homework C: Human After All Excited to listen to Alive 1997 and Tron: Legacy, I didn’t know that those were really worth listening to
Happy to see Discovery with the S tier. Nothing will top that. "Beyond" off of RAM was probably one of the top 3 songs in that Album, shit makes me cry, not even out of sadness, but it just hits so well, and the flow and lyrics are just so damn beautiful.
My personal opinion - Discovery / Alive 2007 - S tier Homework / RAM - A+ tier Human after all / Alive 1997 - A tier Daft punk are probably my favourite music group of all time.
Man, there goes any hope for a Daft Punk feature on the next Gorillaz' Song Machine season. Could you imagine how incredible that would've sounded??
Hmmm that’d certainly be interesting. I don’t really know if their production styles would go together all that well. Daft Punk is much tighter, while Gorillaz seems like they dick around a bit/try to go outside of established conventions to make weird melodies
i once said i can only die happy if i live to see the day of a daft punk and gorillaz collaboration. i can no longer die happy
It would be neat to hear, but I don't know, Gorillaz have a much more punk rock/raw feeling to their music than Daft Punk.

And while I know many people believe "Get Lucky" has been overplayed (I among those people), the rest of the album is just a gold mine of funky bass lines and great melodies that are literally built with heart and soul. alive 2007 is still the best DJ set of all time IMO.
it wasn't a dj set, it was a live set. the only difference is that they were playing it via ableton + some other equipment in comparison to alive 1997, that's why it is so seamless and polished
@@richardkoncol how a dj set works?
@@marceloaguirree that you can play either from classic vinyl turntables or play from digital cdj players (where you can plug in a usb stick or a flash card). both of them work on a "deck" basis, meaning that you're playing reproduced music and you're spinning the "plate". and you're matching the tempo of two different songs to make seamless blends.
whereas an live set is playing not a whole record, but only parts of a particular song via computer or via machines (drums -> synthesizers -> bassline etc). you just layer them and that's it - this works particularly for playing your own stuff (or if you own someone's stems).

Tier S:
Discovery - this thing is just incredible.
Tier A:
Homework - a classic, house banger of an album.
Tier B:
Alive 1997 - pushing boundaries to the max on a live stage.
Tier C:
Human After All - personally, I don't like rock music and rock-influenced sound pushes me a little bit away.
