One of my favorites of all time. The video is one of the greatest pieces of American art from the period
Excellent...
same.....i saw this and instantly fell in love with tom
No wonder this guy's a legend in the hall of fame.
COULD HAVE MET THIS MAN ON MANY OCCASIONS WAY BACK. WHAT WOULD YOU POSSIBLY SAY ? I STEP BACK TO GENIUS OF THIS KIND . THANKS FOR THE INVITE JOHN LAURIE ! I WEEP TO THIS BEAUTIFUL MAN'S SONGS & LP'S.
This is the song/video that made me a Waits fan for life.
Thank you for all your wonderful music Tom.
This was the first Tom Waits video I ever saw,and the sense of melancholy it makes me feel is still there after what must be almost 30 years years later.
Einer meiner Lieblingssongs von Tom 😘👍😄❤️
One the most beautiful songs about decay that I have ever heard in my life.
I only heard this song once in 1997. But it's tune stuck in my head ever since. I had to find this again.
Thank you.
same here. I was a mere kid when I first saw this... This and Waltzing Matilda... I remember not really liking it as a kid (it kinda scared me)but then it grew and now I am a HUGE fan of his work
Brilliant video. If that band marched down my street I'd think the apocalypse had started.
This was the first Tom Waits song I ever heard, thanks to an excellent music show on a channel which had not long begun broadcasting. I've never looked back since then, and have seen him play twice, Amazing artist, and absolutely unique.
Totally bizarre. Like a weird dream. I also heard it but once and never forgot it.
Next to Innocent When you Dream (Live in Big Time) this is my FAVORITE Tom Waits song.
This was the first thing I ever heard and saw of Tom Waits. It was shown on Channel 4 'The Tube' way back when and I was instantly hooked on the music and drawn into his weirdly beautiful world. In the Neighbourhood still moves me to this day. This is the song I want to go out to.
beautiful voice and song..
Reminds me of some of the neighborhoods where I grew up.
Love u 4 having upped this song, Michael! Was just thinking of it, almost two decades after last having heard it ... Like an almost forgotten toy from childhood, here it is again .. tnx man!
Best vid for The best song
Anyone who can write I don't wanna grow up is a genius...
Yes, 'Innocent when you dream' is one of my Favs also ... along with 'the cold - cold ground' ..:-)
It's not weird, it's a glimpse of life, love, death that inhabit the neighborhood.
Thanks a lot for posting this piece of transcendental art!
makes it easy in the 10 best vids in the history of you tube⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Played on national radio 3 days ago becauce I asked it. The DJ liked it! (Npo radio2). 👍
I location scouted/managed the video! I posted my BTS pix and a story about gretting the gig on my FB page. a Wonderful memory
auburninup that's a great story
Great song, great video!
I think this is such a brilliant vid, it has a weird carnival/circus vibe about it with the odd looking characters in the band it's very eerie but brilliant
I saw this when I was about 12 on a thing called "Preview" at my wealthier friends house. They also played the Residents' incredible "One Minute Movies", as filler. No one else was really making music videos, so they just showed crazy content and we thought we were so cool buying these records. Cemented my tastes forever-how old does he sound as a babe? Does anyone remember Preview?
Dude is cool, video is epic cool
This song always makes me cry.
Waits videos never have much in them save for "Big Time" or "Private Listening Party". This video is dull but Tom is a gem musically. The budget on this had to be under $1000.00!
Amazing!
Splendida!
wow,,,,, doesnt it seem like this song and video just steps out of your imagination,,,then just fades back ??
Tom Waits sings exceptionally well, John van Hal! Just the opinion of an opera singer!
Bellissimo!....ops...
go to get behind the mule wordpress blog and select page 4.
How I came to scout and work on this music video for Tom Waits.
Should be the American national anthem.
"The piano has been drinking, my necktie is asleep
And the combo went back to New York, the jukebox has to take a leak". en av de STORA.. såg honom live på malmö gamla koncerthus, typ -86. samma vecka såg jag imperiet o lundell, han va gud då. på olympen i lund. du "gav" mig tom waits.. tror inte du kommer ihåg de. här en klassiker åt denna gudomliga man.
I'm pretty sure I saw this video reviewed on "Saturday Superstore" (hard to believe) and it was my introduction to Mr Waits. Unfortunately the only source of alternative music at the time was John Peel who wasn't a fan or Tom, saying he was too derivative of captain beefheart I think.
If you dont dig this then you need to check your pulse.
Suzi Quatro is in this video somewhere.
Tommasino!!!
And the dustbin lorries make too much fucking noise in the morning!
Anyone know where i can get a Good quality copy of this Video' ?
I first saw it in its Splendour years ago and have never seen a good copy of it since
Doet mij denken aan de fanfare van honger en dorst van Jan De wilde,
Tom Waits, Jan de Wilde... inderdaad... ik maakte me dezelfde bedenking, dezelfde "kleur" als je begrijpt wat ik bedoel
joe farouk ?? it's the godamn deliveries trucks make too much noise and we don't get our butter delivered no more....in the neighborhood
He should be the secret rolemodel for all those gay-pride boyz...
