This song has a vital meaning to it - more so than themes of darkness. It’s about self control, specifically controlling yourself from your own darkness. And, possibly, not controlling your darkness but acknowledging it and accepting it. With the images of her fighting, hurting, embracing and running from herself??? This is self awareness and love baby. We’re in a new age of Gaga and I’m glad we got another in this lifetime.

I am in love with this. For her to evolve in this way and pay homage to her own art form has moved me deeply, and I am forever grateful for her service to art.

To me, Lady Gaga’s video feels like a portrayal of her struggle with the persona and alter ego she’s crafted; it’s like a metaphor for facing her own darkness, almost as if she’s brought it outside of herself. There are moments when she seems to recognise just how intense that side can be, and I feel like she’s finally unafraid of it.

I believe this is about addiction. She tries to resist, she fights with herself, but she runs away and is being chased by the addiction, which finally wins control over her again. For a moment she is fine, like when the walls open up a little, but quickly the walls close slowly, it’s like when you realise, that you will need another shot!

Gaga referencing her pain with chronic illnesses like fibromyalgia & migraine is so highly visible here when she’s fighting against herself and the darker side of herself. Anyone who has chronic illness can probably relate to this. I’ve been personally waiting for this exact moment from Gaga.
