I use JLPCB to make boards and front panels to support my experimental electronic music habit. It was this or model trains on March 13 when pandemic became a big deal. Seeing Jimmy going where I didn't and making beautiful things? Priceless!
I would like to see this done with an ESP32 and the associated camera. Pass off the video feed to something that can count axles, or just display it on a panel mounted LCD below. Cool idea.
Jimmy I really like the concept of this project. But after all your hard work and expense, I was a little underwelmed by the illumination of a white light side the building. How hard would it be to add a 'computerized voice' like I hear in the scanner saying something like "Norfolk Southern no defects"? Or simply "No safety defects" so all roads could use it. Plus, something like dwarf signals in front the building indicating red and temporarily changes to green when the train passes through and then reverts to red (similar to block a signal) Again, great concept! I just think it could be taken to another level (then pitched to Walthers!!)
Is that the kind of thing that this does? Like when a train rolls through this, is it placed in the mainline with pretty much any train going through it? I didn’t think this was as much of a defect detector, but still, that seems pretty simple to figure out if you’re doing this kind of thing, right? He’s shown signals. He’s got a thing that triggers when a proximity sensor is tripped, that’s the thing that turns on the light. Would it be too hard to figure out how to record a defect message to trigger, playing on a small mp3 player on a delay, or maybe when the proximity sensor is no longer tripped? I feel this video is more about designing the NS structure and adding the lighting. His videos are usually pretty short too. That’d probably make it too long.
OK, I'm convinced. I uploaded your Gerber files to JLPCB to check on the pricing - it's $2 for 5 PCBs! (Turns out that 5 is the minimum order.) Admittedly, this is a special offer, so I expect the non-special orders might be a little more expensive, but this is definitely worth consideration.
I disagree, He took a sponsorship from a company and then applied it to the type of content he makes. Its not like he took a sponsorship for a shaving company and talked about that for 15 minutes. He makes free content on youtube...why is it a bad thing he takes a sponsorship from time to time to support himself and his family. Yes there were some moments where it definitely felt like the company gave him some talking points, but who cares the content was fine and completely related to the usual channel stuff.
@wowmaster97 Thank you. It just seems to me that a large proportion of this episode was promoting his sponsors products. Are our subscriptions and likes not enough? He already has a full time career. This is not why I started watching and learning from Jimmy.
I can see where you are coming from and you are one of my long time supporters and know that it makes me smile when I see your comments. The full story is that I had the idea for this video awhile ago and had it stowed away in my "Sometime in the future". When the company reached out, I thought it was the perfect time to do this project.
@@melkitson With how TH-cam is these days likes and sub help for sure. But the reason most creators take sponsorships is because ad sense doesn't provide what it used to. I don't see what Jimmy already having a full time career matters. He is still putting in a lot of work, why shouldn't he be compensated for it? It takes a ton of work to produce content. Sometimes videos come out we just don't click with or are relevant to us personally. nothing wrong with that, just click off and wait for the next one. I personally found this one interesting, and while I wont use it in the same way, it inspired new ideas where I might want to use it on my layout.
Wow, that is so cool! It's amazing what you can do on a model railroad! Another reason why model railroading is the best hobby in the world!

Jimmy add a single story attached office to the building hiding the power cord.

Small PCB's (less than 100mm x 100mm) seem to always be $2 for 5 PCB's - that seems to be a special that's always there, not limited time offer :)

awesome bro
Hello
Are you standing in front of a green screen?
Good eye! It will be revealed why next week.
Jimmy makes all his videos out in the middle of an Iowa cornfield but don't tell anyone!
@@DIYDigitalRailroad yea I thought I saw a light black outline around you!
Don't forget about in the middle of a crop circle
Twin Valley Green Screen 🥲
Jimmy, I know you tried greenscreening yourself in, don’t try to hide it
It will all be revealed next week.
Jimmy, you are in danger of becoming an advertising channel which will chase away some of your loyal followers.

You would be amazed at how many sponsorship and review requests I get for the most random products.
