Lost Audio Tapes: 1980's Radio-Station Air-Checks, Commercials, and Other Recordings.

  • This particular tape was found in a large box of tapes that I was given at some point. These came from various radio stations in the Georgia and Florida area. I found these recordings by mistake actually. I am glad I could record them and put them to video.
As you will be able to plainly see, this tape was actually a top-40 (80's) hits tape, originally had music on it, but a station or two had recorded their own material onto it.
This tape in particular is a good example on several occasions, to show what tape print through is.
From what I can tell, there is more than two stations recorded on the tape sometime in the 1980's.
Some of this recorded material is funny, some things are interesting. Its certainly not something you hear every day.
I'm pretty sure most of this was likely recorded with an ATR-700.
The tape Deck is my Teac 35-2B Professional Reproducer/Recorder Machine.

Very clean recordings. No hiss, or other unwanted noises.

Cool find. I never owned one of these tape players, but haven't seen one of these forever. To agree with one of the other commenters, this is a really clean set of recordings.

I was a radio jock from 1985 to 2000. I wish I had kept some of the tapes from those years. I still have one 7 inch reel with commercials on it...but I don' t have a machine to play it back on. I recorded it on a Tascam at 15 ips speed (like the one playing this tape). Up until last spring (2020) I was still doing some voiceover work for a local station. Finally hung up the headphones and put the mic back in the box. It's still great fun to hear stuff like this and remember how we used to do things before the digital era.

AM 980 WTOT is co-owned with FM 100.9 (ex-"Q101") WJAQ, thus they probably share the same production studio where this tape would've been recorded.

I had a collection of 100s of reel to reels from Toronto and U.S. radio stations from early 80s but had no player gave them away to a collector and never heard anything more from Him...This kinda makes up for it a little.

Just subscribed due to watching your str-d2020 repair, nice to see a fellow audiophile make some repair and funny videos too!
Just to comment on this video, I am guessing that due to what I heard as to the then governor of Florida, and the month that keeps coming up, I would guess that this tape is from right around January 1986.
