Cute video. The realtor you spoke to on the phone was spot on. It’s just one simple road inside :). And you won’t see much more because most of the homes have their own gate and a hedge inside. You’ve seen more by boat. To get inside you just need to be invited by a home owner for some reason. Could even be for gardening or pool maintenance. As an IT consultant I had 2 clients on the island. I actually brought cable Internet to the island 20 years ago. All they had were old phone lines when Internet speeds got much faster by cable. What I can say is that a family of 4 had a mansion with over 20 bedrooms in it. So really it’s not practical. It’s just what you have to build in order to feel like you fit in on the island. The security and prestige is exactly what it’s about, and the Florida homestead laws.

If it’s a private island, it shouldn’t have a police department.

they pay for it through property taxes (probably personal too) because it's technically it's own city/town/village.
Gated communities have its own security force, it's really just the next level of rich.

It seems like the filthy rich like to live in their own luxurious prisons a la Pablo Escobar, and they also have some of the same concerns he had , about keeping their families and themselves safe .
I on the other hand dont like living in gated communities where complete strangers will know when i come and go from my house .
I actually have had this conversation with close family on the off chance we might win close to a billion on mega millions .
Sell all our properties here and quietly move to a country like Switzerland where noone knows anything about us and our children.
People like Bezos wouldn't have that luxury no matter where they go
