I'm extremely relieved this didn't work, because if it had he would have never stopped doing it.
he would continue to do it though, the egg never learns.
He needed to say no to pommel strikes, no to demon form, yes to offering, no to a second heavy blade. And if Whirlwind showed up it'd be gg if the egg figured out how good it is. Also, PASS ON NECRONOMICON? Wtf egg
Tbh demon form is alright if he utilizes offering to setup, the thing with demon form is that with demon form, you actually don't need to pick up that many attacks because demon form just increases your damage output that you can just deal with it through normal strikes.
The best way to build your deck with demon form is to go defensive, you basically just need to survive for 4-5 turns before you destroy everything in your path with +15 str. 2-3 good attack cards is all you need with demon form.
Or... he could not play the way you do and enjoy the game in his own way.

Oh god, he pussied out of the book but if he rolled Necronomicon it would have been SO good for his meme build! Twin Heavy Blade each turn!

As someone else pointed out, if he did that he would have to rest, and not upgrade apotheosis
And seeing as he just COULD get the right book I don't think it was a misplay, just a really safe one

Everyone commenting on the misplays, nobody says how bad it is to take velvet choker on a deck with 0 Energy cost cards... If you're gonna be Flexing up to 2 times per turn, plus using Headbutt+Battle Trance combos, you DON'T want a limit on your cards per turn
LiveDieRespawn the thing is he is almost never going to play 4 cards after the 2 flexes, so it is actually a good play
Even if he uses battle trance, there goes 3 cards and then he probably has at least 2 cards that cost 2 energy in hand
I understand what you're saying, but I wouldn't go as far as calling it "a good play". His ideal turn was to play 2x Flex and 2x Heavy Blade. That's 4 cards, plus Pommel Strike or Battle Trance to draw into more cards. He also usually wanted to play Flex, Flex, Headbutt (bring Flex back), Battle Trance, Flex, Heavy Blade x2. That's 7 cards. Not to mention that, if he didn't get both Heavy Blades in the same hand, he would have to play lower energy cards. Add this to Madness (which made a random card cost 0) and you've got a deck filled with many low-energy cards that he'd want to play if his main combo didn't turn out as well. Not saying that it's a MAJOR mistake, but you usually don't want Velvet Choker when you're playing many low-cost cards.
I think that his turn at around 28:05 explains best what I mean. He could've played Flex+, Headbutt, Pommel Strike, Battle Trance, Flex+, Flex, and then about 3 more attacks (ideally, while knowing what he was gonna draw. Also, I know that hindsight is 20/20. Just stating a case for Velvet Choker being bad). That'd like 9 cards in a single turn and it just wouldn't be possible with Velvet Choker.
Double Tap+ is HEAVY anti-synergy with velvet choker. That's 5 'cards' right there with Double Tap+ and two attacks.
Northernlion, I just wanna say, I just watched a guy speedrun the Spire in 17 minutes and the comment section was complaining about misplays. No matter how good you get...

NL doesn't understand pommel, he thinks it's 8 damage he doesn't realize strength affects it x4 and x5 when upgraded.

Exhaust isn't terrible to take if you want to stay a thin deck daddy because you use it once and it's gone from further draws keeping your deck thin.
Pummel works with Strength, it starts a 2 damage 4 times, but a flex boosts that to something like 6 damage 4 times.
I like how he assumes people are gonna tell him to stop calling him that...

Pretty sure sacrificing Heavy Blade over Demon Form is the consensus because you have 2 of them lol
I would like to present a novel concept to you. When an enemy is doing this thing called "attacking", where there's a little red weapon over their head, you have cards called "Defend" that make those enemies deal less damage to you. You should try it out sometime.

I don't think I have ever seen him pick True Grit, which is one of the best ironclad cards, helps so much in making your deck more consistent by exhausting all the bad cards while gaining nice amounts of block.
First time actually trying to be a thin decked daddy... removes all blocking.... Feelsbadman.

I hate how you came to the third floor with this madness of a build that just means you'll think that it's a good idea not blocking
Personally, I say that you did the right thing by giving up a Heavy Blade (27:32), because you had another one. If you gave up Apotheosis or Demon Form, you’d have lost powerful cards, and there may not have been another chance to obtain them again.
I agree heavy blade was the best choice of the three to remove.
Still sucks though since it was upgraded.
I don't think the strategy of going all out attack is necessarily wrong, but maybe it is when you can't see their intent and can only play 6 cards.

I don’t play this game (may need to get it), but skipping on the book there was totally dumb from what I know. You had 60 hp and a campsite right after, so even if you take 30 damage you can rest. Also the one that doubles your first attack that cost two is insane with your heavy blade deck. But rule of thumb, if you think you can get to a campsite before dying, take the book.

Yea but 5 energy is still really good as he can do more heavy blade (which was sort of his big card) The problem is he was bad at making sure he kept the card limit in mind. Also getting madness at that point was very bad.
Madness was a bad choice imo. you are limited to six cards and that's way more aggravating than the cost in mana

NL; An upgraded Pummel and an upgraded Heavy Blade scale the same (at 5*Strength); infact, a base Pummel scales even better [than a base Heavy Blade]. Also, it only costs 1 in exchange for exhausting, (which can also be a benefit sometimes) aside from the slightly lower base damage (Heavy Blade's 14+5*Strength vs Pummels 8+5*Strength) Pummel is really good. - and ya, hitting multiple times can be a benefit too, sometimes, although I can't think of an example atm-

velvet choker is just a bad relic
User Name it's very rare, at least in my experience, to have a deck that wouldn't be hindered in some way by that play limit. maybe if you had a deck that was only high cost cards and no draw, but there are so many card draw, cost fixing, and multi play cards that it is a severe limit to possible deck building unless you already have a solid deck which didn't have any of those features. no infernal blades, drop kicks, offering, seeing red, double tap, etc. or like 50% of the cards silent can get. it may be possible to have a comfortable deck taking it from the second boss, but I'd certainly never take it from the first boss,and I'd never take it in a deck with 0 cost cards and draw cards.
Velvet choker is far from a bad relic, if anything it's one of the most balanced relics in the game.
Yes there are going to be times where it doesn't fit your deck or limits a turn, but your extremely undervaluing an extra energy per turn.
It's actually great in most Ironclad decks
