yep, for fast shooting nocking from above makes sense
It makes more sense to to not use a nocking point ..to use a floating nock point as was often done in historical Arab archery and to train to hit the exact spot on the string for the type of arrow flight your after ....that is if speed is the whole point
Quick tip for ev tape I learned in school: when you wrap tightly with the tape make sure that the last few cm-s are not stretched, that makes it seal better because the stretchiness of the tape is actually stronger than the adhesive on it.
Traditional strings were as wide as the taped area we use these days... Fun that you call a nocking point an "archery hack!". Thanks for the video!
I think this is just what I needed to get more consistency. I resisted using any kind of nock, but I did see Mihai's video and also his Wife's, but still wanted to launch with no fixed nocking point. This video finally convinced me to give it a try, and so far I'm liking the results.
Happy to hear that!
1:19 If you push the arrow nock up by one nock width and then mark the nock point above the arrow nock, than the arrow is two nock widths up from 90°, because you rest the arrow nock ABOVE the nocking point.
That is different to one of your other videos: th-cam.com/video/yqcu5e774RM/w-d-xo.html
So cheap and effective! Loved it!
Thank you for this awesome tip. Slavic release to me personally is the best.
I prefer it over any thumb release.
Thank you for the idea with the second limit on the top from the nock. I use only one for the finger protection (slavic release too) and I take the painter tape. I wax with sinew wax to protect from the wet.
Sounds great :)
Your channel is under rated!
Thank you 🙏
Great advice marking the bow string.
Whichever type of bow l set up the most important thing is a reference for the arrow release 🎯
So glad I have discovered your channel fellow Toxophilite! That is a very good method and idea for speed nocking and shooting. I have been making and shooting my own bows and projectile for over a decade now, but have been into the practice since I got my first bow at age ten. I will have to modify one of my strings now to put this into practice!👍
Let me know how it went :)
@@CharliesRunningArchery I will, my current way of doing this is by knowing each and every bow in my collection and customizing the muscle memory, through repetition, but I am always trying new things and keeping an open mind in order to grow in my skills. The same applies for many other aspects of life. I look forward to future posts on your channel and always, stay safe, positive, and free in these interesting times we all are in together.
Good video. Beautiful bow 😊
Awesome, thanks!
Very good video! I thought I was the only one who shot with my middle finger & ring finger .... I shoot split finger (I only shoot recurves & long bows) but my index finger only pretty much goes along for the ride.
I also use finger savers, but I might have to try the tape ... Good idea! Thanks and God bless you!
Mihai has been doing this for years except he uses a layer of medical tape on the bottom layer and electrical tape on top of that taking care to not go any thicker than 4mm....I think. I'm of the opinion However that a nocking point will only serve to slow you down, often times the historical Arab archers simply didn't use them and instead had a floating nock point as a low ,straight and slightly high nock all had different advantages in warfare...I simply train to hit the exact place on the string that I want ,it isn't difficult at all and comes very quickly with practice
I’ve been without nocking points for most of my Archery as well…I also heard that it can slow down the arrow speed.
@@ARTCHILD If I use thumb draw, is that method appropriate? If there are no nocking points, it feels like the arrow nock will go up.
@@Zaidi-ci6uj what ever works best for you inappropriate…the arrow nock will go up if your to aggressive.
Awesome video!
Looks very well working for Slavic release! 👏👏👏☺️👍
Instead of the wire you could also use thread (I make my nocking points like this, because the brass points hurt my fingers after a few shots ☺️).
An industrial version of this solution is available as well, developed for mediterranean style (made of silicon).
Your way is quickly self made without waiting for delivery 😁
Well done, dear Charlie! 👍
Keep on running and having fun! 🏹🔆
Thank you 🙏 lady of all good archery!
@@CharliesRunningArchery 😁🙏
very nice thank you.
Good tip 👍
It’s better to use string and tie a nock locater than to use wire. Wire is too heavy and reduces arrow speed.
And like you said , can be sharp. The sharp end of the wire will cut your string over time.
Just tie a bit of string on like you tie your shoelaces. One knot on the front of string then the next knot on the back of the string and repeat 3-5 times. Then add a tiny bit of glue on the knot. Don’t use too much glue, you don’t want it to glue the locater to the bow string. This will create a light weight adjustable professional nock locater.
Smart! I like it! :)
Glad you like it!
Hi Charlie. I see you're using the first version of the Turkish Janissary bow from Alibow, how would you compare it to the latest version ? I have the impression that you have used them both right ?
Nice..👍🏹🎯🏃♂️
Thanks ✌️
The wire seams like it would wear through the string.. Allen bow nocks or some extra string serving? That's what I use..
Never had a problem with a wire and the string. But yes, there are better solutions :)
Would it work for Thumb Draw?
I’m pretty sure about it :)
Your bow looks awesome. I like how it's yellow. My bow is yellow but yours looks much nicer
It’s Turkish by Alibow :)
Hello Charlie, where can I find a bow similar to what you are using?
It's assyrian by bogararchery.sk :)
lol , just use colored string to warp on around the bow string it looks better and holds better than wire .
Ok :)
It looks very light weight bow. How much 25#??
Only 300 grams :)
What poundage is the bow and does that make a difference, my bow is 35 at 28 and 50 at full draw, and how often do you need ti change this nocking point?
This bow is 38lbs. I change it very rarely. Like once in 5-6 months.
@@CharliesRunningArchery thank you for your answer, I'll try it on my 2nd string :)
Right on! Thank you…question, where did you get the Bow hand glove from?
Some normal/basic Bearpaw for 20 USD, I pretty much like it :)
@@CharliesRunningArchery thanks for the reply.
I dont wax my string and i dont put Material on it. This makes my Arrows fly fast.
Got it ;)
What's wrong with traditional serving and then apply a purpose made brass nocking point, seeing as generally bowstrings come already served and then you apply a nocking point in the correct position for your shooting style, the application takes about 5 seconds, they cost less then half a Euro
I need a soft pad for my fingers. Traditional serving hurts after 20+ arrows. With this, I can shoot right away thousands of arrows and my fingers are all right. At the same time - no need for a glow that makes my sensibility dull. Everything is much better now. So there is nothing wrong with the traditional approach. U just did it my way.
@@CharliesRunningArchery well in that case instead of using all that tape why not try using heat shrink tubing, that way you can just put you're nock on the string, and then cover the whole thing with a heat shrink tube
@@blindarchershaunhenderson3769 The problem isn't the surface of the string serving, it's the thickness. Usually strings are no thicker than a few mm, 4mm tops and when you shoot a relatively heavy bow, e.g. 35-45# (idk how much is Charlie shooting with, I personally shoot with 40) than it starts to cut in to your muscle and joints and that's not comfy trust me. The tape basically helps padding the string so that you can shoot without a glove or ring, the nocking point is just an added bonus.
@@Lionall I've been shooting bows for over 40 years, I know a little bit about strings and serving on the string, serving is not there to protect your fingers, it's there to protect the string, because if your string snaps, you can end up with a facefull broken bow, and as for a nock being an added bonu, a fixed nocking point on a string is essential for any kind of accuracy, it's not an added bonus, it is a basic fundamental,
@@blindarchershaunhenderson3769 I'm well aware of the purpose of the string serving :) Never said it's there for finger protection, I just said it's not comfortable to your bare fingers.
As for the nocking point, there are quite a few ppl and shooting styles out there that would argue with that statement(iirc someone even these comments mentioned it). Personally I like to have a nocking point cause I don't practice nearly enough to afford not to have one, but I can see that with enough practice and dedication one could omit the use of a nocking point.
From my experience slavic release shift arrow too far to the side. Thumb draw is less
It depends on the pressure in index’s finger 🏹
yes ok.. for a 25-30 lbs bow
but I want to see it with a 55-60 lbs...
Than ask somebody else to show you 🤷♂️
