  • I've found that using the smith machine allows me work in certain ranges of motions and body positions that helps hit some of those hard to reach muscles in your shoulders. Focus on a smooth continuous tempo keeping the shoulders loaded and active throughout every part of the movement. Start slow and controlled at a light to moderate load. This exercise will fatigue you very quickly.

    Every other fitness person says behind the head is unnecessary
    and only damages your shoulders over time

      If that were the case every Olympic lifter who's ever competed in the Olympics is wrong. It's really dependent on whether you have the range of motion and mobility to do the exercise pain free.

      Type in the words "snatch press" or behind the neck press" into the TH-cam search bar and you'll get tons of behind the neck variations of presses. Crucial that the athlete has the available range of motion and performing lift at manageable weight.

      @@roughtobebufftv5990 every Olympic lifter? Cite your source please because that couldn't be more wrong. Behind the head is absolutely unnecessary and puts the shoulder in a risky rotation. You should know better

      @@leostationfact8836 no need to even cite my sources. You're an internet comment warrior with no skin in the game. The fact that you would use the word "risky" shows me your level of incompetence in this conversation. Thanks for watching my behind the neck tutorial scrub.

      @@roughtobebufftv5990 Lmao I like frauds like you who would never talk that verbal vomit in person. Project much?? You said "every Olympic lifter." You made that claim. It's on you to back it up. Scrub. You're an insecure hack who has no clue. Let me guess: you started shooting up because you got bullied in high school and now you want to spread horrible advice on TH-cam? Yeah. Thought so. I have been nat my whole life. I can outlift you. How's that make you feel? And never had surgeries... because I don't do stupid ass shit that you're posting videos of. Scrub.

    I never use the smith machine but gonna start to use it since I got an injured shoulder. How much does the bar usually weigh on smith?

    • @roughtobebufftv5990
      @roughtobebufftv5990  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The bar on most smiths is 15lbs due to the pully mechanism making it lighter. Usually 15-20lbs.

    Good vid but please don’t go behind the head. The pros don’t outweigh the cons imo.

      @@roughtobebufftv5990 thanks for the reply! would you recommend doing it with an incline bench so you have back support or just a flat bench and keep your posture straight.

    • @roughtobebufftv5990
      @roughtobebufftv5990  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@jamiepirie9758 If you did it was an incline bench and back support it would be considered an inclined chest press. So if you want to develop your upper chest definitely add an incline bench. If you're doing strictly shoulders just sit upright with perfect posture. Happy to help Jamie.
