Not just that... Sometimes I want to see what their interpretation of the song is, or "how they play it".
The amount of times I've tried to learn a piece of sheet music or yt tutorial, and halfway thru I realise it's either wrong, incomplete, or interpreted differently to the original and I've just wasted a bunch of time.

Yeah. You should first listen to the song and just learn the chords first so you know how it’s ‘supposed’ to sound. 😂

OOOOF wow. As an experienced guitarist, I can confidently say bluegrass is a new level entirely. The tabs are easy, it is mixing the melody in with the bluegrass background strumming/picking that makes it tough.

You could absolutely tell how the song goes all the way back to the 17th century. If you’re familiar with the music of the time, you will notice that it is modal. That gives it a very renaissance sound. John Dowland himself would not have found anything strange in the tune. He might’ve raised an eyebrow at the tempo. It might’ve been played a little slower back then. And I can almost guarantee that it would’ve been played on a 10 course Renaissance lute when it was first sung. That was old John‘s instrument. It’s amazing how it’s come down to us over the centuries like this.

Dutch, 68 and love the way you're teaching this beautiful bluegrass piece. Haven't played the guitar for over 25 years, picked it up again like a few months ago starting with all the open chords and some Travis finger-picking and getting there. Now I'm working on this piece the last week (every day) it just needs a little more speed.
The cross-picking makes it much easier to pick it up. Thanks for making me look/sound like a pro bluegrass guitar player. (the neighbour thought it was on the radio,
got an ACUS 6 acoustic amp and a 622CE Eastman)

    • @brettadkins7563

    • @huigsnellenburg6144
      @huigsnellenburg6144 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@brettadkins7563 It's a great guitar, low action and the neck feels just righ, smooth and fits beautiful.
Actually I was looking for a Taylor but found the "equivalent" for €1000,- less, I consider it as being a Chinese Taylor ;)
The sound of the 622CE is just slightly less dark/warm compared to the "equivalent" Taylor 512CE NG. (the AC622 beeing Maple and the 512CE mahogany both back and sides)
The sound-port of the Eastman 622CE makes up for that "loss" ---- while the sound of the Taylor goes away from you, the sound of the Eastman comes directly to you as if you were sitting in front of the guitar, it really makes a huge difference.
Don't get too enthusiastic from all the videos, they all sound absolutely beautiful and warm, especially with a headphone.
When able just try a few guitars in the guitar-shop. Good luck :)

@@Stray1One It sure is brilliant! Thanks for the tip - I will definitely check out the "G - run" you suggested. I am totally new to Flat-picking - as a pre-teen, I studied classical for a few years thus I never really got used to using a pick - even when I started fooling around with rock and punk guitar in my teenage years, I still played with fingers only. Thus flat-picking is quite new to me though I have really grown to appreciate this genre of music and am determined to up my skill level-. Anyway, keep on keeping on mate!! Cheers!!!

Good on ya. I mean you are really breaking it down. As if someone was learning tabs to a piece and memorizing the fingering n then developing the melodic structure.

Billy left don Julian years ago, he was an average mandolin player, the band billy has now is all that matters

Always better on an instructional video to play through the song first as a big picture so we know where we’re going. Big picture, then the details.

Great lesson, Brandon - big respect to you, sir, and all you other folks who can play like this! As a relative beginner on guitar, I thought I’d find me some beginner bluegrass... Was so happy to find your lesson - Although, I need a whole lesson on how to get to this “beginner” level!!!! :D Looks tough as!!! Gonna give it a good effort though. Wish me luck!!!! >> Reaches for guitar.....

Check out "Matty Groves" by the British band, Fairport Convention for an earlier English perspective on the song.
