The song is "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" by Flatt & Scruggs, and the first lick is what I've always heard reffered to as "The Scruggs Lick" or "The G Run" here in Nashville... Great lesson so far, hoss! Thanks!

I'd imagine the reason for the tab is to reach a larger audience. Not everybody can read music, most can read a tab.
