Trick is a huge buff. Start holding and iron ball and switch it over to the opponent to majorly decreasing their speed giving golurk a possible chance to out speed the opponent. Plus iron ball can neutralize the levitate ability and flying immunity so Golurk can utilize earthquake more or get them caught in toxic spikes
Golurk has also gotten a boost via Dynamax as well, and not just because it can finally act function as the Pokemon equivalent of Gridman (Giant mechs ftw). Golurk has always had access to Fly but could not really use it competitively because of the two turn charge and limited coverage Flying attacks have, but when Dynamaxed it will boost Golurk's speed while maintaining offensive pressure. The fact that Golurk also has access to powerful Fighting attacks means it can boost its attack stat too, and therefore Golurk has the potential to sweep unprepared teams. Nothing quite beats fighting kaiju with your own giant mud robot.
I think pokemon with Sticky Hold should be immune to Poltergeist since their items can't be removed. Basically the opposing pokemon could possess the item, but not attack with it cause it can't be removed from their grip.

How Golurk became my favorite mon. Gen 6 or 7 on Showdown, i was using all ghosts. Close to a dual knockout so both mons were fresh. Golurk with iron fist, primal Kyogre. Turn 1, outspeed, do 34% with thunder punch. Turn 2 outspeed do 34% with TP, Kyogre calm minds. Turn 3, Kyogre misses its origin pulse, Golurk thunder punches for the win
I ran an expert belt set (in Natdex) with Iron fist as the ability, and a Moveset of Shadow Punch Earthquake, Ice punch, and Drain punch to mild success, it was a lot of fun not compromising Golurk’s amazing movepool and decent bulk that really only needs Hp invest since it’s not our speeding much, plus I could fake choice band too
Foofootoo, Absol got some new buffs this gen. It now has Bounce and Close Combat. Scope Lens+Super Luck now becomes a mad sweeper with Dynamax, twoshotting even Rhyperior on the switch in, unboosted. Knock Off straight up oneshots all but the bulkiest of physical tanks or dark resists.
im proud of golurk it's one of unova's dopest mons (an awesome, giant, ancient automaton) that needed a bit more viability, now it got a lot of viability
It does get Body Press which can combo with Iron Defense, but its attack stat is so much higher than its defense stat and it now gets access to Close Combat which has a higher base power than Body Press. So generally the offensive sets will get more KOs
Ferrothorn with Spikes, Stealth Rock, Iron Defense, and Body Press has actually swept games for me in OU, which is insane to think of but it has usually done a lot of damage in the event it can do such a thing
You know,i was just thinking about what if more signature move was distributed to more Pokemon. One of the move is Precipice blades (groudon signature move). So what if Golurk had access to No guard Precipice blade? I can see trick room+ choice band Precipice blade

I fucking love golurk such an amazing feature. I hope in scarlet and violent they get a new form with more power like unleashed or somthing like that. But I've maxed out my golurk to be specially defensive and make it counter FUCKING CALYREX SHADOW. YEA THAT CALYREX SHADOW COUTNERED HARD AS FUCK
But why run Close Combat over Dynamic Punch if you use the no guard ability (because of Poltergeist)? It doesn't has the drawback of lowering your defenses while also confusing the opponent. Also shiny Golurk looks so amazing, i have one too
@@UltraAryan10 I guess it depends on who you ask, but extra damage is definitely better than confusion in my opinion. Confusion is a massive gamble, since there is no way to tell when your opponent will hit themself or how long it'll last. I'm also pretty sure there's cases where Dynamic Punch misses out on KOs that Close Combat would get.
For golurk, you might have missed the move dynamic punch I think for a slow pokemon like golurk, the 20 power traded for no defence drops in great, also confusing the target. but sometimes this is not the best option, for example if you are running a wallbreaker and/or a trick room set. 252+ Atk Choice Band Golurk Dynamic Punch vs. 252 HP / 80 Def Ferrothorn: 258-304 (73.2 - 86.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery but with close combat, 252+ Atk Choice Band Golurk Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 80 Def Ferrothorn: 308-364 (87.5 - 103.4%) -- 25% chance to OHKO. Not a massive buff but the 25% chance to ohko probably matters, also with dynamic punch, you have to run no guard when with close combat you could run other moves that gets buffed by iron fist, overall i think its a pretty interesting situation, the move choice really depends on the situation and what team you are running. I just found it weird that you mentioned drain punch but not dynamic.
Great analysis! I am well aware of Dynamicpunch - I mention it towards the beginning of the video. It does mean that Close Combat is not as big a buff as some of the others. But on a Choice Band set where maximum damage output is the main goal, an extra 20% power boost can be the difference between an OHKO and missing out to get KO'd yourself. When you take Stealth Rock into account with the calculations you showed, that damage boost can be very important!
Golurk is my favorite Gen 5 Pokemon and I even caught a Shiny Adamant one in my Sword playthrough! Highly underrated, I love it when Golurk gets recognition. Technically Iron Fist boosted Shadow Punch is stronger than Shadow Claw (60 × 1.2 = 72, 72 > 70) but it's by a miniscule amount and Iron Fist's only real benefit over No Guard is boosting Drain Punch and Ice Punch.
The biggest buffs I would give this thing to make it far better is give it Trick Room or raise its speed to be able to utilise Rock Polish. It would be a menace if it can outspeed stuff. Edit: I don’t even think it gets Rock Polish. Give it that as well. Doesn’t make sense why it wouldn’t get it, it’s a huge rock that flies.
It only gets Rock Polish in previous games so you have to transfer through Pokemon Home. I also think it should get Autotomize - it could jettison part of its armor or body to get faster and lighter!
@@foofootoo Yes! I was thinking Autotomise makes so much sense as well. I think giving it like a base 60 speed and TR would suffice. It can both use Rock Polish and outspeed fastest non-boosted mon in Zeraoara in OU and below (No one’s out speeding Eleki lol) and TR as 60 base speed is still kinda trash.
I too have a shiny Golurk that i bred for battles. I learned how good golurk could be back in X and Y when i caught a shiny one by chance in the friend safari.
It's very true that those can be a problem, though they are not used as commonly in singles as they are in doubles. As I show in the video, some Pokemon are literally not running an item purely to counter Poltergeist and Knock Off
Tbh the first thing come to my mind is to use fly on this guy, so he can spam max airstream and rise his speed, which is a good thing on something aside from Rock polish set
That's a great point, I didn't talk about how food he is with dynamax. Dropping defense with Max Phantasm is great, boosting speed with Airstream and boisting SpD with Quake is also excellent

Maybe someone can clear this up for me but I've always been confused about why pokemon get banned in smogon tiers. Why not just bump it up to the next tier? Makes no difference to what tiers its legal in but seems much cleaner than bothering to ban it. Obviously ubers and anything goes are a different case but still
The tiering is based on usage - if something is not used enough it drops down a tier. But if that Pokemon is too strong for the tier below, the lower tier can ban the Pokemon. The Pokemon can still be used in the tier above, but technically it does not belong to the higher tier because it is not used enough

If your running a No Guard Golurk why would you chose Close Combat over Dynamic Punch which can confuse opponents?
So happy to see other Golurk fans in the comments! My favorite ghost robot dude
My favorite pokemon, sad to see my baby get banned in the lower tiers, but glad it's being used and got such a glowup!
Knock Off straight up oneshots all but the bulkiest of physical tanks or dark resists.
im proud of golurk
it's one of unova's dopest mons (an awesome, giant, ancient automaton) that needed a bit more viability, now it got a lot of viability
My fav Golurk set is
Life Orb
No Guard
Poltergeist
Dynamic Punch
Earthquake
Ice Punch
*Have Fun*
I always liked golurk and there were always these stupid puns😂
Golurk is so cool I wonder if it gets body press for bulkier sets though
Really good buffs I hope they continue to do these stuff for older Pokémon in D/P remakes
For sure, I love to see overlooked Pokemon get buffs to keep up with the power creep
"Themgine" lol. Love the NB shout-out
Yes! Our gender neutral titan!
I love this dude! I got one from a smogon GA and it was fun to use in battle. :D
I love Golurk choice band/av No Guard were so fun to play with and so much damage
Yeah, it hits so hard with great coverage. And not having to worry about accuracy is so satisfying!
@@foofootoo exactly! No one will ever expect the dynamic punch on switch in! Im glad to see it getting a pretty big buff this generation! I love your videos btw they have inspired me to try things I would of never tried.before!
Trick also lets you force those no-item Dhelmise to get an item.
-Also, the fling/stomping tantrum combo is pretty pog.
I'm not a competitive Pokemon player, but I did use a Golurk as one of my main 6 Pokemon for my playthrough of Sword. The big guy is just a beast! XD
opponent: ARE YOU BOUT TO DO THE ORA ORA THING?!
golurk: golurk, golurk, golurk, golurk!
*GOLURK!!*
Golurks dynamic punch helped with no guard think about it and give it rock polish and weakness policy
Heh, y'know it was the Noctowl version of this type of video that led to me finding this channel about a year ago now...
Ayy proud of that video!
But why run Close Combat over Dynamic Punch if you use the no guard ability (because of Poltergeist)? It doesn't has the drawback of lowering your defenses while also confusing the opponent.
Also shiny Golurk looks so amazing, i have one too
More damage.
@@trqsh_can Confusion can be way more useful than defense drops for just 1.2x damage.
@@trqsh_can oh and i thought Dynamic Punch had 150 base power. I think i mixed it up with focus punch
@@nosysprat6170 Yeah, Dynamic Punch is 100 base power versus Close Combat's 120 base power.
Trick is particularly very cool with assault vest and klutz, I found it really fun to essentially taunt your opponent for the rest of the game
I saw galarian rapidash banned as well, will you be making a video on that too?
Golurk is my favorite Gen 5 Pokemon and I even caught a Shiny Adamant one in my Sword playthrough! Highly underrated, I love it when Golurk gets recognition.
Technically Iron Fist boosted Shadow Punch is stronger than Shadow Claw (60 × 1.2 = 72, 72 > 70) but it's by a miniscule amount and Iron Fist's only real benefit over No Guard is boosting Drain Punch and Ice Punch.
Golurk and Litwick both are my favorite pokemon
The biggest buffs I would give this thing to make it far better is give it Trick Room or raise its speed to be able to utilise Rock Polish. It would be a menace if it can outspeed stuff.
Edit: I don’t even think it gets Rock Polish. Give it that as well. Doesn’t make sense why it wouldn’t get it, it’s a huge rock that flies.
It does get Rock Polish.
Cool to see now! Great video now! Keep up the good work now! Be well now@04-13-2021 now!
2:18 The problem is focus sash, berries, weakness policy etc... Itens that are used
It's very true that those can be a problem, though they are not used as commonly in singles as they are in doubles. As I show in the video, some Pokemon are literally not running an item purely to counter Poltergeist and Knock Off
Golurk was in RU before Crown Tundra, and it's amazing to see tbh
Living his best life
Do you remember your slow bro video can you tell me the move set i know on of the moves is belly drum and also how did you get belly drum on slowbro
Golurk needs a final evolution called Golurking, golem king pokemon
I found out that speed swap ribombee an easy option to fix the speed problems
Golurk is a big character in the anime, biggest buff of all
Ikr.. such a gentle giant
ITS ME AGAIN. love your content foo thanks for the excellent videos
Thanks for watching!
Golurk is my favorite ground type :(
Tbh the first thing come to my mind is to use fly on this guy, so he can spam max airstream and rise his speed, which is a good thing on something aside from Rock polish set
That's a great point, I didn't talk about how food he is with dynamax. Dropping defense with Max Phantasm is great, boosting speed with Airstream and boisting SpD with Quake is also excellent
@@foofootoo ah also, he's got heavy slam, so an access to spam max steelspike. In short he's gonna wreck in doubles as gmax
Such a Shame they took so many years to create finally a good physical Ghost Move!
Like seriously Why isnt Shafow punch much Powerfull before?
It sucked! Dusknoir and Golurk deserved so much more for so long!
@@foofootoo Just thinking about Dusknoir makes me sad! :"(
No good Physical stab before, Eviolite just made dusclops 100 times better, low Hp for a wall.
Everything Dusknoir trys to do, Dusclops just does it better.
Well anyways, Loved the Amaze vid foofootoo! Keep it up with the coolest stuff :D🌟
- Poltergeist
- Earthquake (High Horsepower in doubles)
- Dynamic Punch
- (Other Move I don't know)
W/ No Guard
Heat crash
Maybe someone can clear this up for me but I've always been confused about why pokemon get banned in smogon tiers. Why not just bump it up to the next tier? Makes no difference to what tiers its legal in but seems much cleaner than bothering to ban it. Obviously ubers and anything goes are a different case but still
The tiering is based on usage - if something is not used enough it drops down a tier. But if that Pokemon is too strong for the tier below, the lower tier can ban the Pokemon. The Pokemon can still be used in the tier above, but technically it does not belong to the higher tier because it is not used enough
Giant robot with base 80 defenses. I always thought they should be a bit higher
Yeah I think so too
My favorite Pokémon from gen 5.
Good choice, there are a lot of reasons to love Golurk!
