    Hi, I got a rail 7 and had the dreaded creek. Put some queries out there on some group's and I was giving some great advice. I though it was the Bottom bracket but it turned out to be the motor bolt's dry as a bone rubbing inside the hole housing. I removed and greased and all creeking stopped.
    So worth a try first.
    Thanks for sharing your vids

    • @TheYorkshireBikeMechanic

      Hi Royston, Thanks for watching, yes, its common but not a massive issue as they are easily rectified. The main thing is spotting it early, if you catch it early enough you wont need the whole kit, just the bearings which are available from most good bearing dealers.

  • @fredman1085

    thank you for your video. My Rail-7 was sounding perfect until I got caught in a downpour 1/2 through my ride. After that, my bottom bracket was creaking. I suspected the crank arms but feared the bottom bracket. I watched your video and did the tire/seat post test. Well, it wasn't coming from my pivot bolts but I did notice my rear wheel moved ever so slightly and with much less noise, at the axle. So, I tightened it about a 1/3 turn and viola, the noise is gone.
    I was surprised because the tightening lever (what looks like the old skewer handle) didn't move since the wheel was put on but apparently, the axle did loosen. I'm not going to worry about it.
    Anyway, thanks for the video, I'm KNOW I wouldn't have thought about that test and found a 2 minute test/fix instead of removing pedals, crank arms, etc... and still not finding the problem. Thanks again.

    Thank you! I checked all the pivot bolts in my Rail 7. The middle and bottom bolts were loose. I have only three rides so far, but I ride hard! The sales guy in the bike shop asked me to check them often. My first maintenance should be just after 200km range in the bike shop as half price, but I'll do it myself.

    Could you give a bit more info on the anti-slip compound you are using and how it differs from say white lithium grease which is what I've used in the past when fitting bearings. Have I been using the wrong stuff?

    • @TheYorkshireBikeMechanic
      @TheYorkshireBikeMechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, thanks for watching. The anti seize is a compound formulated by shimano to help stop components seizing in their housings, its not used on bearing races just on components, the lithium grease use use is generally used on bearing races and moving parts, it will still work as an anti seize but not quite as good as dedicated anti seize compound.

  • @jamjar1106
    @jamjar1106 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello mate, I've watched this video what seems about 80 times now, as I had a similar creak everytime I pedal but it only happens down the one side (left side pedal when you ride) no one had the kit at the time, but I was able to purchase the bearings and installed them as a novice myself, having followed your video - so thanks. HOWEVER, its still creaking and I'm wondering is it coming from somewhere else or is it that the pivot bolt needs replacing still?? There's clearly were on the bolt, but even 2 mechanics at the Trek store don't seem to think the wear would make that much difference as its fractions of a millimetre we're talking. When I put the bolt back in and grease it up to the hilt to see if any noise is at least reduced, but nothing - what do you think yourself? I can get the bolt, but don't want to pay another £30+ for it if nothing will change of course

    • @TheYorkshireBikeMechanic
      @TheYorkshireBikeMechanic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Thanks for watching and your comments. like all kinds of creaks unless they are super obvious its a process of starting with the one thing, replacing it then ride it to see if its changed, suspension pins are nearly all black in colour, if the black has worn away where the bearing race runs, replace them. having said that some can be very tricky to find, in some cases I have completely rebuilt the bike to sort it out

    • @jamjar1106
      @jamjar1106 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheYorkshireBikeMechanic thanks for the response. The funny thing is, I hosed water over the bike like I did when I washed it and the creak has gone. I’m assuming the excess water has found it’s way into the area or component’s that’s the issue and almost acting has a lubricant until it drys out. I’m going to start from the bottom of the frame / suspension area and hose a bit of water and see if at any point the creak goes again and then Hopefully figure out that way we’re it might be coming from - maybe a measure worth trying. Like I say, only because it goes for a short period of time when washed 👍🏻

      @@c-claudel I think you are right, some bikes will last longer without a suspension bearing change, there are many reasons for this, design, bearing, protection, quality of bearings etc etc, other factors are climate and how aggressive the rider is, having said that though I seen new bikes that have bearings fitted with very little grease in, they are not going to last long with or without bearing protection.
