- Being the best known and most popular luxury watch brand in the world, Rolex watches have little trouble selling themselves. Many, many people are quite happy to buy one just because it says ‘Rolex’ on it, paying little mind to what that name really stands for. Well, before you buy a Rolex, here are three things you should know.
Featured Watches:
Rolex Submariner 5508
Rolex Submariner 14060
Rolex Submariner 114060

I purchased my Rolex Submariner back in 1983 or 84... I loved the stainless steel look and the durability of the watch. I was getting into underwater welding and all the guys that dove wore them. And James Bond wore one (back then it was a big deal because it wasn't an Omega). So I cut grass for $10 a yard and saved all the money from odd jobs and in about two years I brought my pickle jar full of paper and coins to Hausmann Jewelers and purchased my watch. My constant companion.
I love these stories
Awesome
These kinds of stories make these timepieces special.
That's a cool story
Imagine how much grass you have to cut today?
Purchased a rolex in 1995, hopefully it should arrive by 2050.
Yeap. Around Dec 29-th.
lol
hehehe 🙏
@Tony Hill In USA?
@Tony Hill Congrats.
The history of Rolex is one of prime examples why sometimes it's more beneficial to work smarter, not harder.
I am not a comment leaver... ever. But I will make an overdue exception now. For a long time I have been enjoying your videos... by miles the best on TH-cam. All are crafted in every detail, from script to voice inflection to images... a delight for all the senses. Your video crafting is equal to the best A. Lange & Sohne. Thank you for bringing such civilized pleasure into a circus of mediocrity.
NO ONE .... does the watch video better than these guys... full stop !
THE DR. FEELGOOD London watch collector is very good also

Circus of mediocrity indeed.
1 Thing You Should Know Before You Buy A Rolex:
1- Everyone will think it's a fake.
Yeah, even if they don't ask you if it's real. (what you should NEVER do) You just see them looking at your wrist, and obviously at your watch, for an abnormally long time and think to yourself:"here we go again..."
2. Buying one will transform you into an insufferable douchebag.
Viriatvs of Lvsitania that’s only if you’re shoddily dressed broke boy with a lack of confidence due to extreme jealousy. Perhaps you should stick with Seiko, since elite level doesn’t fit your budget!
@@xcvxcvcxvxvcq found the insufferable douchebag.
@@xcvxcvcxvxvcq Pure jealousy ...!
"Marty, I'm just back from the year 2052 and I was still on the waiting list for the Submariner!"
Great Scott!
Why don’t you make like a tree and get out of here!
I had one in 2006 the Pepsi and that's all I got is it real. got rid of it after a year wasn't really in to watches back then .have the Tudor black bay bronze now love it .and I don't have to worry about getting my arm chopped of 👍
...LOL...
@@fearthebeard.outdoors1189 Just move in a civilised country fam.
This guy is an horological encyclopaedia. Fabulous stuff, always.
Fernando da Fonseca it’s not a guy he reads a script. It’s a team of people.
theonlyredspecial Out of interest, how do you know that the narrator doesn’t do most of the research?
@@jacc88888(Edited) I thought the narrator is Alan Davies (the actor), I was wrong.
Later videos show his face.
Alun Crisholm he inadvertently revealed his face on a reflection off the Montblanc World Time (cannot remember the exact watch name), on the polished lower right lug. View it in HD and zoom in. :)
Alun Chisholm I think that is a TH-cam myth. Apart from the high(ish) register of the voices it doesn’t sound like him to me : Alan Davies has a much stronger South East England accent to my ear. Even the Watchfinder narrator in question joked about it in one of his videos a while back.
"After very small, very expensive independence ...and Seiko" :) Love it!
so close
I'd forgotten how much nicer the previous model Submariner case was than the current model. Thanks.
bigpops74 so much like the Tudor BB58!!
Agreed, my year 2000 Sub is in pristine condition and so much more attractive than the current...
bigpops74 it’s amazing how people have such different opinions. I really don’t like the older subs. I like the maxi case and the ceramic bezel
Your videos are very well made. I really enjoy the way you present the timepieces!
5:00......Says all you need to know about Rolex. What a classic and no stupid looking cyclops! Love it.
I’ve owned many watches, many watch brands. Blancpain, Tudor, AP, Hublot, Breguet, Grand Seiko and UN to name a few. I’ve owned many watches at one time, finding great pleasure in watching them spin beautifully in my winder trying to decide which piece suits the day best. But today, I only have 1 watch. A Rolex.
Hero
Legend
Which Rolex?
Hublot? Im so sorry for you…
Love these videos and wait with bated breath for each new one; that said, anyone else driven nuts by the tiniest little dust specks and imperfections shown up by the amazing magnification in the close shots?
I love how Seiko is mentioned in 3 Things You Should Know Before You Buy A Rolex
the right video at the right time
as always a great video
My Rolex GMT Master, has been going strong since 1978, when I bought it new. Just have it serviced every 10 years.
Peter Mashak how much was it back then
I'm sure there are 1960's and 70's Timex, Ball and Waltham watches out there ticking as well.
@@dorado0359 My GMT needed servicing at the 18 year mark. It started to lose some time over a couple of days. I wore
it all the time and everywhere. When it was opened it needed cleaning but the wear was negligible. so, marketing
is one thing but it was a good timepiece all round.
Awesome content, many thanks! I'd go 4K. I know your camera can handle it beautifully.
I love the macro shots of the Big Crown sub, I think that's the closest I'll come to seeing one where I can actually get a sense of dial texture, dings, and all of the other indications of a watch possibly worn for a lifetime.
Matched the seconds on the transition of the watches at the end. Nice attention to subtle details. Thanks for the outstanding content.
a Beautiful presentation!♡♡♡ Thank you!
I have my uncle's late 80's tapestry dial datejust to remember him by. Still keeps great time after all these years and the only Rolex I ever want to own. Classic design and I can see this will still be ticking and keeping time long after my own ticker has stopped.
I know sports watches is what everyone is after but when I think of Rolex, I instantly think of datejust. A timeless design classic.
I got my first Rolex two weeks after I had a heart attack. Hopefully both tickets are going strong for a long time.
Thank you for sharing,
Glad to know the background history
of my fathers
1956 Oysterdate
Love the video's as always! Any chance you could review the Ulysse Nardin Marine Tourpillier
Your videos are so nicely shot, that this particular one almost made me praise the brand. Wow!
Hell yeah. Awesome video as always guys.
So relaxing watching your videos
6:51 and... Seiko. 👏
I love both my Rolex Datejust and Submariner
Fantastic video as usual! Wish it was longer!
I feel that if that camera had a close up over my eye it could see into my childhood and see me playing my first t-ball game at 5 years old.
Always a pleasure to watch this channel.
thanks you so much sir, it was very informative and such a great story
Thank you for the information. I own a Rolex myself, but I did not know the history behind it.
Please review an Ebel 1911 El Primero chrono. I could listen to you describe a swatch. Very informative. Thanks for doing what you do!
Been binge-watching your channel. You’ve mentioned factoring maintenance cost in a purchasing decision. Can you do a video on that aspect of fine watch ownership? As good as a Grand Seiko is, I’m sure it needs some sort of maintenance.
An outstanding doco , thanks
These videos are sooo amazing man keep up the amazing work man love it 👏🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Yes finally it’s that time of the week!
Love my Rolex sub will always keep it
I could listen to you talk about watches all day. A history lesson and amazing video. Great job! Love the videos
Once again thanks 😎
I have given up on trying to reason with people who insist Rolex make the best watches in the world. Next time I'll simply direct them to this video so they can learn.
The primary function of a watch is no longer to simply tell time - it is to inflame desire.
As such, Rolex obviously makes the best watches, because they are the most desirable.
That’s an excellent video review!!!
Wonderful presentation, beautiful commentary...this is so professional...What's the name of the background soundtrack? It is very fitting!!
Thinking about an explorer 2 atm
Wow. Awesome video. Well made, written and great content. 🏅
Please do make a behind the scenes video of how you capture the brilliant shots you do mate, without revealing all your secrets of course
this channel is actually pretty cool, could you do a video on Cornavin?
Bought an Explorer II black dial in 1992 ,still has original box and papers even the Rolex calendar card that came with it...with age has a beautiful patina beyond words ....with age just gets more robust and desirable...!
Fascinating, I have seen objectivity and subjectivity together only in Clarkson or I would say, you are the second person to have that capability. And clarifies misconceptions in the history of watchmaking.
I got lucky this month, bought 116613lb and 126660 Deepsea black dial
Great storytelling!
Can we please have a review on the Frédérique Constant flyback chrono? It’s a really impressive watch with in house movement for a very affordable price! Thanks
Awsome video. Top infos.
Again as always a great video
I waited 16 months for a white face SS Daytona, worth the wait, such a nice piece
The 16600 Sea-Dweller is the watch i aspire to own, the grail
You an me both
03:10 that roulette date dial 😍
Great content!
Rolex has a great history, so does almost every other Swiss manufacturer, and that is what makes watches so interesting to me. Every company has its list of 'firsts'.
Like watching a golf tournament on TV......Beautiful content, soothing voice...zzzzz..need to watch twice.
Your voice, dude. Possibly the best I’ve heard.
Thanks for the nice summary. As far as what was behind the brandname a retired antique dealer in Berlin who used to buy and sell very early Rolexes and Longines once mentioned to me that the oldest Rolexes he had come across had a rolled x carved inside the case, the apparent origin of the name Rolex.
Clever branding and name!
Great effective.
This channel has the best photography of TH-cam! I love those macros!! 😍⌚
check out Horology House
Please make this type of content for other brands!
Could you review the hydroconquest ceramic 2018 and compare with The Oris aquis? Please
I have an 18k day-date since 1999 and I love it
Do some high end Hublot demos?
How long should a rolex watch be serviced?
What about gold is it also mined by Rolex? Do they they employ coil miners ?
Dream Watch
Good video for more of the history behind it. Now the circus that surrounds it is a different story!!
good stuff
How does such a patina build itself? Is it when humidity somehow enters the case?
Great video. Love my 16610
Superb video.
Review the Rolex 16523 please!
I bought my first Rolex, and that's a true story, the very day before this video was released xD
Nice new microphone!
Can you order rolex direct from them on their website ?
All good
So...
Basically Rolex was Apple ? 😂😂
Exactly what I was thinking!
Noobs
History repeats itself
Apple was started by 2 computer geeks & not by a business man
I Am Maximus lol. Jobs was the businessman and Wozniak was the actual computer geek.
Best review, Submariner no date
Can you review the line up of ave 8 watches
I would like to see a detailed video on Rolex sky dweller
Big crown sub? Gets his hands on some incredible pieces.
Can you do Omega next?
Rolex! One Million plus production volume! Yet, still the most coveted watch in the world! Isn't it fascinating?
Your videos certainly are!
And they made well over 1 million submariners just in the last ten years. I dont get people that are willing to pay a premium when buying a sub.
I like to see your comments about Tag Houer?
You should have a Leica camera in the video instead of the Japanese one. Otherwise fascinating story well told. I learned a lot.
You won't find a better bracelet than the modern oyster with easy link extension.
I thought I knew quite a lot about Rolex but this video has taught me so much I didn’t know.
Strangely I like the company much more now.
It’s English origins and the passion of the founder make it a much more human story somehow.
The owner was German. The case maker was English, the movement Swiss.
Mike Munoz
This is from Wikipedia
Rolex SA (/ˈroʊlɛks/) is a Swiss luxury watch manufacturer based in Geneva, Switzerland. Originally founded as Wilsdorf and Davis by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London, England in 1905, the company registered Rolex as the brand name of its watches in 1908 and became Rolex Watch Co. Ltd. in 1915.
You should do a submariner date vs no date comparison
One has a date. Done.
There’s no getting away from that lens! The dial on that sub at the start looked like the men’s room floor of a Wild West Saloon!
I laughed hahaha
Brilliant comment! 😂
In video, old sub ,got space for date window before?
Orient Bambino please.
Super video
