"Radical Red" "Minimal Grind Mode" Not me over here thinking the player character was going to be able to whip out a skateboard for mobility and general shredding purposes 😅
I really find this hack interesting, as it's got a lot of QoL stuff added, shows off what can be done with GBA Pokemon hacks these days--which is really something, the GBA hacking scene is very dedicated--and of course there's always the fun of a hack that'll let you catch 'em all (and RR's latest version is up to pre-DLC Scarlet/Violet minus a few legendaries across the board, as I understand it). At the same time though it carries one thing that's an issue for a guy like me who just wants to goof about and have fun with that level of variety and options, and it's that even on its easiest and minimal grinding settings, it's still by default something of a challenge mod where you still need to know a lot of meta stuff and can't grind your way past challenges and the like like a normal Pokemon game would typically allow. Minor in the grand scheme of things, but it's a point against the hack in my mind. Really fun to see a TAS get done for it. Even in a hack you can't avoid a TAS finding a way to skip entire chunks of the game for the sake of speed.
My only gripe is that some of these massive expansion-type hacks - and granted, I haven't checked out THIS one in particular - makes heavy use of the quirks in VBA-M, meaning it won't work on hardware or more accurate emulators like mGBA. At which point VBA-M is sort of like a GBA flavored game engine. I'm not against it, since this is basically "theoretical" GBA capability and I love what people are doing. It does ask the question whether if - or by how much - emulator exclusivity matters. Especially in a market where most devices today have a couple of emulators sharing the same platform.
@@actualhyena I can understand that, it must be frustrating that some things are difficult if impossible to play on legit hardware and are only possible through emulator stuff (and specific emulator stuff at that). I had a similar issue trying to play that one Mario 64 hack that is all trippy and based on beta stuff, but the easiest emulator, the RetroArch on Steam, can't play it, presumably because it's just too big to be played like a legit N64 game.
@@actualhyena Exactly the one I was talking about. I'm not very well-versed in emulation stuff (I mostly used VBA because it's probably the easiest out of the lot to get and use) so I didn't know it would need something specific like that.
95% of the popular Pokemon ROMhacks don't absolutely require VBA or VBA-M. In fact in Radical Red's case the latter two aren't recommended, especially VBA since you cannot finish the postgame due to inaccuracies.
I'm more than happy to be the author of the first two Pokémon ROMhack published TASes. This hack especially holds a special place in my heart. ❤
thank you
Could you explain what exactly happened? I got confused after the decamark appeared.
Nice job!!!

Proud of you gooble 💙
I am able to explain almost everything in this TAS, but that Farfetch'd HP part is beyond my comprehension.
Pomeg HP underflow messing with the "last healed location" data is my guess.

Holy crap, the glitch to warp to the Elite Four unexisted Furret! That's a bummer. Little lady did a good job.
even the tas doesn’t want to grind in this over the top rom hack

A+B party swap glitch. 3.01 used to have a mechanically broken pokemon swap, which allows you to swap with fainted pokemon, giving you 2 HP bars.
