Original sketch is a lot longer and funnier than this movie version 🙂. It shows how they retrieved the joke from the writer's house, a Gestapo interrogation, development of a German counter-joke, etc etc. With Monty Python the original sketches are always better than their movie versions imo.
The joke in German goes... "Wenn ist das Nunstück git und Slotermeyer? Ja! Beiherhund das Oder die Flipperwaldt gersput" something to do with nuns but mostly gibberish. To protect people from the joke, google translate used to just say [FATAL ERROR] but they got rid of the easter egg a while ago.
Not the full version 😕 and not the original 😕 I have the full original version. Its nearly 10 minutes long "Monty Python's Flying Circus - The Funniest Joke in the World - 1969"
Have not seen Yes Minister in a while so looking forward to it ad during an election, sure to be extra funny with the comedians on stage over here attempting to get us to vote for them.
This was way ahead of its time. It would be another 7 years before Richard Dawkins coined the term 'meme' in its original sense as a mechanism for spreading cultural information from one brain to another like viruses of the mind in his book The Selfish Gene.
Jokes and news that spread by word of mouth date to the prehistoric age. Lies, too. Remember that prostitution is only the second-oldest profession: politics is the oldest, lies from the beginning down the ages to today. Such a joke could be the solution. Weaponising misfortune was used in a recent Doctor Who episode, as well. '73 Yards'.

Joke proof conditions 😂😂😂
It's a powerful thought- you find yourself in a deadly situation, only to be suddenly overcome by the funniest f******* thing you've ever heard!!
But is it a cruel weapon or a kind weapon? Hard to judge.

Shame you didn't get to see the full version, still worth checking as there is a lot more.
Could be dangerous though...

If you wiped John Cleese from history he would still be funny
Sadly, he seems to be doing this by himself these days. It's a shame.
