Truth is, when you play the game, you really feel the song does match him, since you are looking at him from the perspective of the protagonist, who really respects and looks up to Asogi

It's really cool that you say Asogi's theme doesn't match him, because one could argue that this version of it doesn't reflect Asogi himself so much as it reflects how the protagonist PERCEIVES Asogi. Naruhodo really looks up to Asogi, so it's cool that his upright nobility and sense of justice shine through here and his hotheadedness is overlooked. If you're getting this much just from the music, I would love for you to play this duology!

One thing to keep in mind with Ace Attorney is the music is composed not only to observe the character, but the context of the scenes in which the character appears, particularly in first appearances. Asougi's theme suits his introduction as a *vastly* more competent, even heroic mentor figure in an extremely dire courtroom scenario; Ryuunosuke's saving grace, turning the tide against his oppressors. As such, his theme suits the flow of the trial and the serious, foreboding nature of the courtroom itself just as much as his character.
As the plot marches on and you learn more about him (and others), his theme takes on a different meaning, especially as variants of it are introduced. Asougi doesn't really ever change (only your understanding of him changes), but Ryuunosuke very much does, and the game is very much aware of the shift in perspective as he attains the maturity and competence to see his best friend's unbreakable will in a new light.

It's difficult to explain, but Kazuma is a character where it takes a while to see his layers. He gets multiple character themes, and this is the one you hear first, when he is still seen as an upstanding, noble sort of character.

such a beautiful theme for such an interesting character. this game left such an impact on me; the juxtaposition of the OST and the writing of the characters leaves you so emotional. the way they reuse leitmotifs and blend themes together, especially in the second game, is so striking.

It’s very interesting, your comparison between the vibe of the theme and the character. I hadn’t really thought about it before, but you’re right. It doesn’t really match his character. It does, however, match what the game wants the player to think of his character when he is first introduced.

It is so cool to hear your interpretations of the characters and settings attached to these music themes, and it's so awesome seeing you so fascinated by this game/series, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles has got be one of my favorite game stories/experiences, the soundtrack lives rent-free in my head too.
Just like the characters and story, the themes themselves have layers, and I adore every second

If you're not planning on playing the game and don't care about spoilers, you should hear the other versions of this song (it has four, including this one). I love all of them and it's interesting because each one is like a different point of view of his personality. This song, to me, reflects exactly how the player (and the main character) feels towards Asogi at the beginning of the game, he's too idealized.

This song is perfect for Kazuma's character. A powerful, resolute person, and above all, a friend.

You should totally check out The Great Ace Attorney. It's one of the best games I've ever played, especially because of its great story with tons of plot twists, which is pretty much what makes the series so great. Just the first case alone (about 3 hours long) is already really worth it and can solve all your doubts on what the game is like, it's on steam.

This game series has some of the most incredible music anyway, but the Great Ace Attorney Chronicles takes the cake for compositions and arrangements. The use of leitmotifs really pulls all of the story and cases together. It’s insanely magical. I hope you can also listen to “Revival of the Prosecutor”!

  • @Mr.LeoNov
    @Mr.LeoNov 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Well, you're kinda right, because considering how Wiki page described him, the song really doesn't match, but in the game he is really different form how he was described
And his themes are also changing depends on how he appears in the game in different cases. Like, there's about 3-4 versions of his theme, so yeah, the last one does suit the description anyway. And in some previous vidvideo you asked about whether or not Ace Attorney has a live orchestra and it does! So I definitely recommend you to check it out.
Oh, and also, I think you would love "Pursuit 2013 - Keep pressing on" theme, it's just gorgeous

  • @Phos42

You should probably check out Susato's theme after this, her's and kazuma's are one of the best character themes ever composed in my opinion

  • @minah2328
    @minah2328 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Idk, I think the description you read of him makes him sound heroic and that’s exactly what the song sounds like to me. Now, the truth is that as you play the game through the eyes of the protagonist who kinda puts him on a pedestal, things get revealed and he becomes more of a grey character as time goes on. And kazuma actually ends up getting more themes to reflect this development. So yeah you would have to play the game to really grasp why all of his themes match him. Because they truly all do, he’s a complex character.

As someone who has Kazuma as their favorite character in this game, it's really interesting how you feel the dissonance between his theme and his personality. It makes me so curious if you'd feel his fourth character theme fits him better. If you're not going to play the game and you're up for it to listen to it it's name is ***spoilers*** "Revival of the Prosecutor"***spoilers***. If you are, you should probably have this theme in mind.
So now on to my two cents: I wouldn't go so far to say it doesn't fit him at all, even with the description you read: strong sense of justice, fighting (and trying to revolutionize) a corrupt system, trying to save his friend (the protagonist) from being a scapegoat (while potentially sacrificing his own dream of coming to the British Empire in doing so) is pretty damn heroic in my opinion and requires a lot of bravery (especially in Japan where not speaking up against pretty much anything is the norm) which I think this particular theme captures quite well.
This doesn't mean you're wrong, though, the man is definitely a rebel and the song doesn't capture the entirety of his character (there's a reason he has several themes) and like others here pointed out also portrays the idealized image the protagonist has of Kazuma. Kazuma's character and his relationship with the protagonist that reflects the latter's character journey (the protagonist's growth while Kazuma is getting more and more deconstructed) is so cleverly written and unique in my opinion.
Little fun fact: TGA has a neat small in game music collection that not only features comments by the composer of his given tasks/intentions, but also of dismissed versions of several themes and why they didn't make it into the game. Anyways, his comment for "Samurai with a mission" was:
》'Something elegant but emotional... but also elegant...' was the request. This piece tries to capture Kazuma's inner strength and movingly gallant character. If you listen carefully, you may even feel the keen edge of Karuma perhaps...?《
So I guess the composer himself does feel there is a slight aggressive edge to the theme (Karuma is the name of Kazuma's sword). Just thought that might be a nice little tidbit for you.
Sorry this is so long but I found your reaction just so interesting that it spurred my own headwheels on as well, since while I have been ofcthe opinion that the protagonist idealized him too much I never thought about if his first theme is unfitting or not and had to put down my own conclusion to this. 🙏

Like I said on the other TGAA reaction vid, this game loves using leitmotif. I'll develop a bit: this game is pretty long (it's a combination of two games, around 90 hours). And imo they did a great job at managing the different variations of leitmotifs to create new themes depending on where we're at during a single case, or during the story as a whole. Again, as a composer you may find playing this games interesting for that reason (tho it's a pretty big time commitment)

Man. His theme and Godot's are my favourite character themes of the whole series. They just temporary broke me every time I heard them. They sounded so on the nose the first time, but after all the context you started to appreciate them a lot more.

The funny thing is that Kazuma in the game is both brash and has that samurai code/honor. Those two personality traits aren't mutually exclusive. Also this song has other versions which reflect other sides of his character

    spoilers ahead:
i can't help but imagine the whiplash you'd get if you heard his fourth theme (yes, he gets four), "A Prosecutor Reborn". it's kind of blended with the other prosecutor's theme that you listened to while still being his theme song, and it's just so so good. (it plays at the end of the second game, so a lot happened, and the song reflects that development)

This is a request, please want to react Most Beautiful OST's of All Time: Kimigatame Gekiban.
This OST is played in a game called Utawareru mono.
The orchestration is wonderful, and it was played at key moments in the story to move the players' hearts.
I would love for you to react to it.

Since I'm early: I want to suggest some music from Arknights - and it's a running gag in the community that the developers are just making the game to finance their music efforts. They go so far as to write & hire for or commission songs for the Global version of the game's big events.
Most themes aren't directly appearing *in* the game but get released online/on streaming platforms to accompany new (and old) characters, I'll suggest two that *do* appear in the game: Alive Until Sunset & Song of Fools, since they're very different in style.

    Spoilers below 👇. Be warned.
The Ace Attorney games are visual novel games where you play a defense lawyer. Every case is a murder case and we're trying to prove our clients innocent.
The Great Ace Attorney duology is a prequel, set in the early 20th century. The concept is still the same, visual novel where we defense our clients against murder charges.
Any discussion on Kazuma will be spoilers, literally any. The song matches his portrayal when we first meet him, but as the wiki said, he does go through a change later on. Saying that alone is a spoiler.
In the first case of the game he is our ardent defender and our best friend. We are being falsely accused of murder. He believes in our innocence and was willing to sacrifice his own opportunities to see use go free.
In the second case, massive spoiler ahead.....
He is found died in a locked room with us. So again we're accused of murder and we have to prove our innocence.
Later in the second game, he returns and his personality is different. More in line with the wiki's description.
I adore the Ace Attorney games, and the Great Ace Attorney duology is probably the best entries in the series. I strongly, strongly recommend them if you have any interest in murder mysteries.

As people have pointed out, yes this theme reflects how Ryunosuke sees Kazuma but also, the description on the wiki isn't fully accurate. The terms "hot blooded" and "sharp tongue" imply he's temperamental and brash when that's not the case (well, at least early on). In reality, he's a very composed and precise person. He's not so much hot blooded as he is principled, not so much sharp tongued as he is deliberate with his wording. So in many ways, he really does embody the archetypical samurai, type A person whose theme this track is written for. Of course, as the games go on we learn that he's more multifaceted than his initial portrayal but he never really strays from it too far either.
