Hi Tom, that's a nice simple and common sense pattern. It's a pleasure to see you tie.I don't think I've ever seen you tie other than in print. That was in an Orvis pattern index and an old Orvis newsletter they sent me in the late 80's. It featured your snowshoe emerger (coolest new fly I'd ever seen) and I tied it with materials I had on hand. I'd never heard of CDC or had scud or emerger hooks. I didn't know the various colors of the mayflies either - but I had snowshoe feet for tying Betters' Usual, chocolate brown rabbit dubbing, peacock herl and sword for my favorite Zug Bug, and a #2 grizzly neck. For a hook I used an Eagle Claw L042, suggested to me by Dick Swan, the guy that started the noodle rod craze, for switching out the the big trebles and Siwash hooks on my spoons for L. Ontario browns and salmon.
So I basically turned a Zug into a snowshoe emerger - sword shuck, herl abdomen, rabbit thorax, grizzley hackle for the CDC, and the snowshoe wing. I tied a few and took them out to my favorite local stream. First cast it drifted for a few feet and a nice trout moved up, followed and eye balled it then hit! Holy - - - - ! Nice brown, followed by three more. My first surface caught fly - thanks to you and your pattern that inspired me to tie using what I had.
    Thank you Tom!!!!

As sophisticated an angler as you are, you always preach simplicity. Very admirable in a world of bloviating and horseshit.

I don't know what it is, but I believe sinkers, wet flies and poppers are my main strong points when fly fishing.
