I actually had a USPS employee tell me the USPS Flat Rate envelopes were only to be used for documents as they are to remain 'flat'. I knew better than this and just choose not to deal with that USPS location. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
My usps people just told me to make sure I tape the sides as well so the package won’t pop open.
They are misinformed, print out the bulletin and hand it to them if you want to use that post office again. Weird to be a 70lb limit printed on the envelope for just documents right? 👍

I’ve done hundreds of packages like this but they started to tell me that I couldn’t do it at all my local post offices since you’re technically changing the package.
The bulletin is pretty clear as long as it seals with their adhesive. You are not in violation of the states rules. They ultimately can choose to not follow the rules and refuse your package but if you spoke to the right person in the chain of command they would probably set it straight. Idk if that's a fight worth fighting though. Read below some of the bulletin pertaining to flat rate envelopes.
There is currently no maximum thickness for a FRE. “Flat” refers to the price, not to the shape.
Q. What if the FRE is stuffed so full that it’s shaped like a cylinder?
A. As long as the FRE can close within its normal folds, and as long as the sides of the FRE haven’t been reconstructed, for example by being slit and having a gusset inserted, it is fine. “Flat” refers to the price, not to the shape.
@@thecollegepicker saw your new video and I agree, however I went to the top of the chain in my area and even she game me grief about it. Not sending out 20-50 packages per day any more so they usually don’t say much. Also the employees have mostly changed and we have a better rapport together.

@@InappropriateShorts they are just giving you a hard time. Show them their own policy which is black and white that as long as it fits inside the envelope, it ships. Secondly, each and every USPS employee is different. Some are uneducated nasty and some are educated about their policies and very cooperative. Go to the latter.

In Australia they make us stick to a 2cm / 6/8ths inch max width to prevent these hacks 😂😭
If an FRE or FRB is presented at the office of mailing and the customer has manipulated or reconstructed it, the container is accepted using weight and zone - not the Flat Rate price.

manipulated or reconstructed means anything that will not let the sticky end come together with the original opposing edge. They will not accept it in that condition.

Just cropping on a computer unfortunately. We need to blow up mercari with messages requesting this feature. It cant be too difficult to add.

It's the same issue no matter which printer you have. Mercari doesn't have a 4x6 format available for their labels. All the Rollo snobs have the same problem.
I learned you can cut the usps boxes and add half a other another one if your box is to small. BUt my post office are Jerks. I have tried the up above and I was t aloud to do this. How to I show them I have the right to do this?

I have been told by my post office workers that with the flat rate boxes I am not allowed to alter their shape and they cannot be "bulging". Does that not apply for these envelopes?

She mostly sells 5lbs bags of mixed jewelry a few times customers bought two bags and the postage was ridiculous. Pirateship links with eBay. They go by cubic inches NOT by weight. As long as it’s 36 cubic inches or less it’s cheaper than going through eBay (heavy items). 12x12x12” or the equivalent. 16”x11”x9”, etc. So a very heavy item is a lot cheaper on pirate ship as long as it can fit in some thing that is equal to or less than 36 in.³.
