Runescape is one of the longest running MMOs on the internet, and it's always been rife with a lot of really wild shit because people with a lot of times on their hands (ie. young people and just general nolifers) would get super into it. I bet people who played Ultima Online and Everquest have similar sorts of stories, judging from my dad's stories, but since the audience of those games is much older from what I know it doesn't seem like people are making as many videos about it.
All for a video game, yes. But with how long it takes to acquire items of value in the game, it gives them a lot of real world value too. So when someone's doing stuff like this, they're likely selling the items virtually in exchange for real world money.... and they're likely making bank. IRL. So.... even crazier, I guess... not only for a video game, but abusing a video game for hefty real world gains. Crazy. That's runescape for you. So much so that it's literally the economic infrastructure for some third world countries. I'm not joking, look it up, lol.... probably shouldn't be laughing at that >.>

Honestly, it’s mindblowing that there’s a company that takes a stance like Jagex do, thinking that players satisfaction is the responsibility of the players themselves, it’s absolutely *absurd* and we’re still eating that shit up. Also the fact that they only kept on adding incremental changes/updates to a game that runs on an engine from 10.000 BC + the fact they never really commit on stopping scams and bots operations that fuel the RWT economy + the gargantuan amount of gp switching hands in duel arena every single day. Problems that have presisted for at least 6 years caused by rules that are not strictly enforced in OSRS free trading system have not been resolved and are still plaguing the game, truly shows the priorities that Jagex has regarding on maintaining and developing osrs. Am i missing something here or is there any significant fixes or updates regarding the issues i mentioned? Because i just cannot not seeing a clear connection here, i strongly believe that it’s either Jagex’s real revenue is not coming from membership or it’s a sweet side hustle that is just too good to be stopped for them.
Bots, cheaters, abusers, and exploiters pay for membership. Ban enough to look like they're kinda trying, leave enough to make sure they stay profitable. I love the game but hate the company.
lol I watch these videos having never played runescape lol. It’s almost like a mental exercise because I have to sort of figure out what these different things are. I am not really a big player of games but I do find the little black markets and unintended economies and the social hierarchy that form around certain games fascinating. The idea of some guy sitting in his room who in reality may be considered a loser but within the game he plays he has the power and notoriety of a Lucchese crime boss cracks me up.
I mean it was a smart risk it just that the mod was slippin. From what I know, the hacker cud have sold his account full of valuables on the bm and make millions off of it and nobody would be able to pin it on him because the account isn't his anymore.

I used to pull IP's out of Call of Duty games through an app called Cain and Abel, it would give IP's of anybody in the lobby with us. I would be willing to bet that when you interact with another player in game, a similar app would show up the new IP that's interacted with your connection, giving him the IP to hit offline as soon as he attacked them.

I got jacked by Cheeky during this time. I got extremely lucky and teled back before he started TBing. My client froze up as I spam clicked my tele. It never showed me teleing on my client. About 5 mins later I got back in and thankfully one of the packets containing my TB request went through. After that happened I didn't PK until about 1 year after Jed was exposed because I didn't know they were linked.
Other players traffic goes to Jagex server which dispenses their actions to you, there's no peer to peer connection so you can't sniff other people's IP addresses this way
I don't get how players wouldn't first assume the person was somehow getting help from the inside. Think about how quickly you'd need to find their information. He doesn't have enough time to figure it out int he moment if it were from discord or whatever. It would need to be from something almost instantly.
Interestingly, I distinctly remember being scammed by a user that went by the pseudonym Versace. Probably stuck in my craw because it was a douchey thing to call yourself.. That wasn't his RSN. It was on a different game he was pretending to trade me online currency for Runescape gold. Mind you, this was back in like 2006. Probably just a coincidence. He was loaded on this other game. Almost wondered if he was using this other game to launder his gold. He was loaded. He pretended to be a noob on Runescape. But I wondered why he wanted to trade for so much gold. It was 5 mil back in '06. He would've had no use for that kind of gold at those levels. Got the feeling it wasn't his first time either, in hindsight. This is completely a conspiracy theory. But what if that was Jed who had stashed gold off-site until it was safe to trade it back to a normal account undetected? The timeline probably doesn't even match up though.

-Challenge other Streamers & Fans to a contest.
-The contest is 24 hour HCIM fight.
-After the 24 hours you take your HCIM to fight.
-Places such as Dueling arena, Castle Wars, Wild(If you want to go hard).
Another similar idea:
-Get some Streamers & Fans.
-The contest is create even teams for a clan fight.
-Players have 24 hours on a f2p account.
-After the 24 hours the clans group up & meet in the wild. (Or a place where you can control the environment better)
Hope you can adapt these ideas, and create some awesome content!
Best of luck!
The true madness is in many countries ddos is a felony and may result in 10 years in prison.
And kids are doing it everyday
Man, I recognize a lot of the names in this video from pking, and wars in the wild back when I still played - Good times.
this dude is gangsta, doesn't even change his name lol
the BGM choices are fire
just preordered a kbd, hype
Thank you! :) I'll have it down to the post office for you in the morning
"Only a Jedi could have erased those files....but who...and why?"
I never played this game more than a few minutes but the stories are very cool to watch
Nice of you to shoutout the runescape gossip channel 😂 aka Oak
The idea of some guy sitting in his room who in reality may be considered a loser but within the game he plays he has the power and notoriety of a Lucchese crime boss cracks me up.
guy unlocked the dark magic skill.
Wow. A modern day Duriel
Just copped a Jad figure. Thanks!
And I bet the victims didn’t get any of their gear back 🙄
man deadass right before u said his new alias was vuhsachee i legit got a versace commercial wtf😂
imagine committing a felony for a video game.
I mean it was a smart risk it just that the mod was slippin. From what I know, the hacker cud have sold his account full of valuables on the bm and make millions off of it and nobody would be able to pin it on him because the account isn't his anymore.
He’s from the uk we don’t have felony’s just regular charges and nothing to him has happened since and he probably made a few 100k so I would say it went well
@@droxxy94 So him giving people DDoS viruses is the same as him just littering trash?
@@preezus you will get longer but there is no misdemeanour or felony it’s just known as a charge. You are either sent to high court or magistrates court, they are also not viruses lol
@@preezus ddos isn't a virus

Love the videos 👍🔥
He did a lot more than rekindle the idea, this video added nothing new.. literally every talking point of other videos in order, same clips same images same structure. >_
like almost all of his other videos
what was the point of hitting tab before the attack
I CAN CONFIRM CHEEKY ALERB WAS A DDOSER, HE DDOSED ME NUMEROUS TIMES AT DUEL ARENA FOR OVER 38.5B, I WAS ONE OF THE PEOPLE WARNING OTHERS ABOUT HIM!
I used to pull IP's out of Call of Duty games through an app called Cain and Abel, it would give IP's of anybody in the lobby with us. I would be willing to bet that when you interact with another player in game, a similar app would show up the new IP that's interacted with your connection, giving him the IP to hit offline as soon as he attacked them.
u would lose a lot of money
Why did no one try to log his ip?
Those figures look great. Did u use runelite file grabbing plugin and 3d print??
That’s a thing?! You just blew my mind lol
A Vpn would ruin this whole thing. Can't break my internet when im in England but actually not in england. GOTCHA
i am sorry to disappoint you, but VPN in these instances wont help.
So what is DDOS - Distributed denial of service, essentially is that you are getting more requests then hardware can give, lot of different types of how it can be done. Lets say for example TCP Handshake(in order to establish connection there is process called handshake that go client to server, server respond to client, Client confirms to server and establish connection) DDOS - is when only only 2 first phases established, and never actually client confirms connection. basically flooding router with requests.
So in short term it would be flooding device with requests of the data, that device just chugs, we are talking about thousands of requests per second.
when we have basic principles out of the way, so reason why VPN wont help.
when you log in game your connection is secured and server know your public IP that have connected, when VPN server will be DDOS there could be 2 things either it disconnects on client end. or it would take some time to disconnect, because as far as your computer know it is routing all traffic thro VPN server, and it will take some time to understand that is down.
Even if it disconnect quickly your public IP is changed, as far as Jagex server know, you are different client that try to connect to game, meaning your old character are still in combat and logged on, meaning you cant create new connection. You will get message about already connected.
I work in IT, i support clients, and in order to connect there systems (Domain controler, file servers, firewalls) i have to use VPNs, and i connect to VPNs lot of times per day, and that is problem what i sometimes get.
Just like the guy above, your IP on the VPN is still leading to your pc. So it wont do anything
Cheeky Alerb's real name: Death Gun
lol
It's Durials son
This is almost like DeathNote but for the Runescape world
Cheeky Alerb was basically the RuneScape equivalent of SAO's Death Gun ^^
So, the guy got a dream job at Jagex and then just ruined it all? Makes perfect sense. His train of thought is incomprehensible to me, being just the mere mortal I am.
Jagex should send all the illegal things he did to the local police so that they can lock him up.
He's fled the UK and he is living somewhere else, so he will never go to prison (rumored that he moved to Argentina)
@@redaxecat9206 Jagex's fault for not sending info to police before they fired him, what a bunch of idiots.
Wow crumb i am a noob and am way too scared to pk is it okay to just stay to skilling or will i get made fun of?

I've never even playing runescape nor have I wayward videos of gameplay till tonight. Somehow went from protesters being ran over to this. I'm not disappointed tho this is intriguing asf
The deeper connection you have the better ways to make illicit money. Same goes irl in business. Talking to an owner of 20+ gas stations. Mcdonalds, and other retail chains. Black market is tricky
great vid!
Nice video bud
netcat -> ddos tool on specific ip address -> profit. Please note this cannot be patched. Happy hunting ;)
You perfectly explained why it would make sense that he was pulling the information straight from the client....
"because hes using official client" next scene show him with runelite plugins for his hp/prayer bars
Didn't even make a video of Slolpo :'(
- RIP SLOLPO
I’m just happy that TH-cam fixed itself so I could watch this👍
I'm happy they fixed it so I could upload it too :) worked all night to finish this, was real worried
