- The Sony A mount is a bargain regardless of which camera you choose, but the Sony A58 might just be the best deal in all of photography at the moment.
Apologies for the technical problems, some of them didn't show up when reviewing them in my editing software for whatever reason. Too lazy to fix them now!

I have this camera and your video has helped me understand it better. It’s a really good video and has introduced me to some of the more technical aspects of photography. Thanks so much!
This is a very detailed review, thanks to you I’m picking one soon! Earned a sub!
Paid £110 with kit lens and it’s been great, joy to use and experiment with old Minolta lenses 😊
Nice, I have the first Gen A58 but the advice you gave is still usable.
My biggest problem with the A58 is that some sigma lens give me a yellow tint.
I love the Sony range and they stand up to a lot of missuse. and keep on working in the rain!
Thank you. You helped me make my choice :) I'll be getting this camera.
I'm glad to hear it! I'm sure you'll get many great images with it. Happy shooting!
I have a sony a330 so I feel like this is definitely a step up.
Thanks for the review, most detailed one I found)
Hey, I've been trying to shoot some video with this camera and it seems as if the quality is terrible. I am not sure what to do, it deosnt mathc the quality of the video that you show in your video and I have tried deinterlacing the footage in premier pro however this is not working and I am unsre of what to do. Any reccomendations?
Thanks for video, very interesting, what do you think, what's will be better for portrait photography, Canon 60D or A58? I think Canon more durable, because made in Japan
Sorry for the delay. You can't go wrong with either. I do prefer the EVF on the A58. The 60D has access to a more modern lens library, but if your focus is on portrait photography than the telephotos and ultrawides Canon offers aren't very valuable to you.
Sony cameras have a good reputation; I think the reason the 60D might be more reliable is that it's a higher quality "prosumer" model.
If you are valuing affordability above all else it would be hard to beat the Sony.
Also when I bought my A330 I wanted a 300mm lens, so I bought one off Ebay. Will my A mount lens for Sony work with this camera?
Sorry for the delay. All Sony DSLRs like your A330 are A-mount, so they should definitely be compatible.
Hello, I cannot find a straight answer as to if my a58 can do HSS. I currently use Yongnuo Flashes and controllers (which I know aren't HHS capable) but now I am considering purchasing a strobe. TIA!
Sorry, Rodel, I sold my A58 and am unable to test it for myself. However this thread seems to confirm that it does: www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4036071
Thank youu sir :)
Hi ! It’s possible to use this for live streaming ??
Hey what lens should i get for macro - on budget for this camera.
Sony 30mm f2.8 MACRO
Thanks ;)
@@drsgreddy88 Your welcome
which do you think is better among these: Nikon d3200, Canon eos550d, Sony at 58m? I would use it to take pictures of my travels. I have a budget of $ 150
I was looking at d3200 too but I think this may be the one
Thank you! Was just looking at one on eBay
Really very helpful - Thank You
Absolutely loved this review. I have the A58k and wanted to know more about it, this review definitely delivered; I learned a lot.
Thanks!
A58 in 2022 is worth?
Absolutely!
If you are considering selling it locally, I would maybe look at ebay to see the avg cost it is going for.
Does this have iso range settings like the a55 so you can have a limited iso range for lower noise?
Yes, it does. Base ISO is 100 and is selectable much higher.
Hey cool video , I have a option of a used a58 shutter count of approximately 8000 for 211$ and a alpha a6000 for 422$ . Iam going to enter the photography world . Which of the two would you recommend for actually learning and getting inspired with . I know a6000 is new n all , but would love to know your opinion :)
A6000 might be newer than a58, but is still an okd model. I would go for a58. Or a68/a77ii
I don’t understand why you use in almost every sentence “beginner” “entry level”. If you want to take advantage of this camera’s features, you need to know a bit about these features and not just stay on auto (what a real beginner would tend to do. )
can I use this camera for live streaming?
If you are going to be doing long live streams (over the 30 minute or hour mark) no stills camera will work well for you. You'd be better off using a camera intended for video or a high end webcam. The sensors on stills cameras can't take that much abuse.
Not directly, you need a hdmi capture card for streaming.
A camera guy making video with all white super over exposed. Nah mate..
I didn't have access to a good background so it was an artistic choice to cheaply and easily get a clean background. This is the frugal photographer after all. =)
