Porter Wagner was a favorite of my Mom's and I remember watching his show with my Mom when I was young. I didn't know Dolly's song "I Will Always Love You". was to him. Enjoyed this very much. Very beautiful cemetery location too!!
Chris, I didn't know he recorded "Green, Green Grass of Home". I noticed this reference is on his tomb stone. I knew that Elvis and Tom Jones also recorded it. It's a beautiful song. Have you ever heard it? Who are the family members interred next to him? I also didn't know that his professional relationship with Dolly Parton was the inspiration for the song"I Will Always Love You". That was an interesting fact. Thank you. as always, for your hard work in getting another great video to us.
I love the way you research the subjects of your videos. When my husband was stationed at Ft. Campbell we took a trip to Nashville to go to the Opry and saw Porter singing that night. I loved getting to see him in person. Thanks, I enjoyed this very much.
I don't know a lot about Porter other than he had a big impact on country music. I became a fan of country after his heyday, but I honor and thank him for his contributions.
Not a C&W guy(Indie rock),but country singers back then, had a style and uniqueness about them. Sometimes I'll hear one of these old songs, and catch myself singing along! Then it's like:"What am I doing?".Lol! Thanks again.
I met Porter many times in the 90's. He was so nice and had a great sense of humor. He was the only singer that had an all female band, The Right Combination.
Went to the old Opry in the late sixties as a teenager was parked behind the Opry was in july very hot in inside family went out side too cool off.Parked next to us was Dolly and Porter. I had a brand new Polaroid instant camera. Still have my cousins photo with Dolly
I grew up watching Porter Wagoner, and Hee Haw, seeing all those country singing stars. I'm surprised that he has such a plain grave site when he was so famous, and a colorful showman in life. Rest in Peace Porter and Ruth Wagoner.
Very nice video. You know I am not a country music listener, but he yes I have heard him. Quite interesting to hear the beginnings. Thanks for taking us along
I knew Dolly Pardon wrote and performed the song " I will always Love you" I didn't know it was directed at Porter Wagner. You have to admit Whitney Houston sang that song the best and made it more popular. Noone has the vocals like Whitney. I love your interesting videos. Looking forward to the next one.
I never said it wasn't Dolly's song. I gave her credit for writing and singing it first. I was only stating the incredible range Whitney had. Dolly could never hit the notes that Whitney could hit. Not many people have the range of vocalist. 🙂
My dad used to take us to fairs and parks to see country singers. While in Grade School we went back stage at a fair and met Porter. This was before Dolly. Dad took a picture of us with Porter having an arm around each of us. I couldn't believe how tan he was. We still have the picture. Dad developed his own pictures. Dolly and Porter also shared a law suit when she wanted to leave.
Hello good buddy Chris is was talking to a ol friend of mine he used to write songs and he knew porter wagoneer really well they use to chew chewing tobacco outside in the parking lot and set and talk for a long time he has been to his house and has pictures with him it's neat I showed him your video last night and he really enjoyed it and showed me pictures of them together in his house and studio and parking lot
Still watch The Porter Wagoner Show each week on RFD-TV. Gaylord Entertainment lent him a helping hand towards the end of his life by employing him as a Greeter to crowds visiting.
Hi Chris .. a wonderful tribute to Porter Wagner.. I dont think I ever heard the fact that Dolly wrote " I will Always Love You" about him. And with no disrespect to the late great Whitney Houston , IMHO Dollys original version will always be the best!! I always learn something from your videos which is why I look forward to yours.
I want to say thank you for the brought up Ted BESSELL Because I really like and I've been trying to find someone who would show his grave because I can't travel and I really want to see it cause I like him So thank you so much oh if you wanna know what my name is it's So NYA

Dolly Parton wrote I will always love you With him on mind when she left his show
Good memories of The Porter Wagoner Show on Sat nights.
Always enjoyed Porter hosting The Grand Ole Opry on TNN. I miss TNN and those days.

Absolute legend and such a snazzy dresser.
My favorite Porter Wagoner song is The Carol County Accident 🥰🌹🙏

Dawn - Whitney had an INCREDIBLE VOICE, no DOUBT, but to me, this will ALWAYS BE DOLLY'S SONG!!!!

Awesome if ever your in Knoxville.Tenn, check out The Old Grey cemetary, lots of history

Been there so many times I like the duck 🦆 pond I video and photo and just rest and relax and eat just walk around
Dolly sang "I Will Always Love You" to Porter on his deathbed. Allegedly that song was written on the same day as her masterwork "Jolene"!

How are you feeling, David.
That was a good video 📹 👌
Yep I’m guessing they pinned each other very often
Ummmmm…. Lol
Norma Jean was on the show before Dolly Parton you got to remember that
RIP Porter Wagner...I REMEMBER YOU😢
I like his song Carroll County Accident. This song is no way tied to the worst drunk driving accident that happened in Carrolton as some people say.
Still watch The Porter Wagoner Show each week on RFD-TV. Gaylord Entertainment lent him a helping hand towards the end of his life by employing him as a Greeter to crowds visiting.
I'm from westplains where Porter is from and he still has family here. He should have been brought home here to westplains to be buried .
Would you the gave of ted bessell from that girl please

I don't think it's widely known that Dolly wrote and recorded the song. I think most people only associate it with Whitney Houston.
@@DanielFrost21 .. I remember her singing it in the movie "Best Little Wh@&$house in Texas".
Thanks Ken!
I remember the story of a fight he had with George Jones. It's said that George grabbed him by the balls. lol
Closeup of all three stones would have been great. Who was the third one?
❤️
Love when he and dolly parton when will talk about dolly parton mom dad All love you
Great job...it is said Dolly tore him up when she left the show..He was bitter for quite awhile. Ned had him come watch a race once
Ned is a legend.
Although I love Dolly, My favorite of his duet partners was his last, Penny DeHaven.
I want to say thank you for the brought up Ted BESSELL
Because I really like and I've been trying to find someone who would show his grave because I can't travel and I really want to see it cause I like him So thank you so much oh if you wanna know what my name is it's So NYA
I heard Dolly left because he wouldn't give her more money, nor the respect she deserved. Never was crazy about him, but ALWAYS LOVED Dolly!!!!
Just curious, was Porter buried in one of his iconic Nudie suits?
That’s a good question. I’m not sure of the answer to that one.
I Remember watching Porter As A Little Boy Oh By The Way Chris This Is Therold my Nickname is Eddie I Had To Get aNew Phone bill So I'm back With you
