You're right about the cold water but the dangerous marine life is just a warning, it doesn't mean that they will harm you. I know Florida very well and I've literally been five feet away from a shark and it didn't even attack me. And I was boogie boarding and a school of stingrays swam underneath my board and I literally stepped in the water with them and none of the, stabbed/stung me....they just swam around me. And I have been stung by a jellyfish but a sting from a jellyfish is like a slight burning sensation and it's really not that bad.
