There's very little rhyme or reason to Notes on a Conditional Form.

i'm scrolling through the comments and i'm genuinely surprised almost none of them is a "Great review Anthony, but..." meme. cool to see some character development in this fanbase.

They just had to go full 22-track deluxe edition mode, effectively dooming their score from Anthony, Destroyer of Bloated Records. Oh, what a cruel world.

Of course Anthony wouldn’t care for an album about condition, because he barely can use

I feel like the album being titled "Notes On A Conditional Form" is pretty telling of this record. It's 22 strangely out of place songs that don't have nearly any flow as they move through one another; but in a way it seems like this was the vision of the record, a confusing perspective on Matty Healy's mind and how he translates that into his music. Small sticky Notes placed around the house with little reminders of different things on them. It's not as cohesive as their previous albums but damn did I enjoy listening to it. The simplicity in some of the deeper cut tracks is so stark in comparison to their previous music. Not to say it's not okay to dislike this record, I mean hey it's all opinion anyway. This record is all over the place because it wants to be. The 1975, NOACF, Forever.

I’m not mad at the score but I don’t feel like the length and genre-hopping is as cynically commercial as you make it out to be.

As soon as they released People and Birthday Party I knew that this album wasn't going to sound consistent at all.

Fair review. Would have personally gone with a 6 and given more praise to Frail State of Mind, but you articulated your points well and I respect your opinion.

As a fan of The 1975, I completely appreciate the brutal honesty coming from The Fantano even though it hurts to agree with. The bands progression has been a very rocky one but it's good to hear an unbiased opinion that isn't kissing their ass, while also not taking unnecessary shots

I don’t think Melon clocked the fact that on If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know) it’s not Healy saying the ‘flirtatiously pushing’ chorus but him saying that was what a girl said to him...

Listening to this album after fanatically anticipating it all year made me feel like a cult survivor who had water dumped on his head to snap out of a 7 year hypnosis that my favourite band had me under.

This album marks the end of an era for the band, so they’ve pulled from their older song writing ideas and inspiration whilst also showing their development in sound and taste. It celebrates where they started and where they are now, as they’ve said before they create as they consume so this was the final expression of their musical endeavours as we know. As a concept it doesn’t work as well but I feel they achieved exactly what they set out to do, put out a piece of art marking the final act and end credits to the 1975.

I love this band, but yeah if they cut out about 4-5 tracks it'd be a much tighter album.

Their first album was definitely their most cohesive, and they’ve just gotten more all over the place since then. I do still like this album though mostly because I think Matty is a very interesting lyricist. I’m interested to hear what Drive Like I Do sounds like. And if it makes you feel better about if you’re too shy, the girl is the one saying it to him haha
