"They won't put any luggage on top of a flat bag like this" I'm genuinly happy for your good and consistent experience with this setup, but my experience is that not all baggage handlers have this level of care. My method: Hardcase (for some reason the only ones I can find are in Asia) or the Molchanov fin protectors + padded softcase. Pad the case further with fabric to keep it as bend-proof as possible. Wrap it in 'fragile' tape. Then mark it as sports equipment, which typically allows both cabin carry or check. So then I'll try to carry it on and stack it above other suitcases in the cabin, but if a staff member makes check it last minute at least it's protected.
I have a trip to Dominica in March. My flight involves layovers at 3 different airports along the way. If I check my fins in, I’m not worried about them getting damaged, I am worried about them not arriving in Dominica. I’ll take my chances and bring them as carry-on.
@@Fly_with_Efe I was able to bring my fins as carry on. I did check a bag and it never went missing. I also brought my neck weight as carry on without issue. However I have heard that trying this if you fly out of Mexico, they will confiscate your neck weight.
But by checking in the fin bag you need to pay extra for additional baggage aside from your luggage because usually most airlines offer only 1 checked in baggage
I have same bag with expensive gear.. So I am afraid to travel while sending them on counter because my heart will break if it breaks :) Will try my luck to carry on plane ☺️☺️
This is my biggest issue always. I remove the foot from the fin so its seperate making it shorter and i have the BIGGEST suitcase you can buy and i have my blades inside even though they curve just about 5 cm to long. The diveR is so large fins but i love them. Never tried carry on as im so afraid to loose them. Im more certain my HUGE suitcase will find me than a small bag.
Such a pain... I'm a nomad, full-time traveler and live out of a suitcase and a carry on which must fit ALL my scuba gear + free diving gear as well as everything else I need to live 🤡
I will go back to my home country in the Philippines in 2 weeks in the Marble Island Romblon Romblon where I grow up my whole life. Definitely bring my fins or buy it in the Philippines sir Leroy what would you recommend? Will only use plastic fins.

(This is my first trip with my Cressi long fins. I’m going to Deans Blue Hole for training with Trubridge’s Vertical Blue school.)
Not agree. Can happened bad luck anyway, like with me. I use similar case and rap my fins into yoga mat additionaly. But once my Molchanovs carbon fins was craced (one fin). It was not totally broken, but it has now longitudinal crack in the middle part. i use it anyway by sticking tape.

It depends on the policy and most of the time it's not so clear how many pieces you can check in. So ask in advance 🙏

Had my carbon v3 cracked once. So always am afraid to bring my fins on flight. I took cressi impulse after that incident.
