Stevie always stopped during that song (life without you) and did a speech on what life is really about and to stay away from the drugs and alcohol because it just kills you and everything you love. All of his speeches during this song are straight from the heart. No script... Stay safe out there people and take care of yourselves.

SRV always did a speech during this specific song. Different speech for different times in his life. Whatever was on his mind at the time I guess. The white guitar was made for him by his friend Charley Wirz. Charley had passed away and SRV wrote this song for him as a tribute. SRV, one of the most humble humans that we lost way too soon. Stevie lost a tooth when playing with his teeth. He looks over at his stage hands and says my tooth, gone, and just grins and keeps on going. What a great performer and human being. Talking about the keyboardist, Reese Wynans. He is still going and playing for Joe Bonamassa now. I remeber seeing him play this song up close and when he went into his rap it was all about keeping yourself clean and safe for the people who love you appreciating them, just being there and being present int he moment , it was shortly after he had cleaned up from coke and alcohol. It was so heartfelt and he really thought he had turned a corner but such is life a few weeks later he dies in a plane crash

My favorite SRV tune. And isn't a shame that after almost 40 years we STILL haven't learned the lesson he spoke of? As to his look, he ALWAYS had a lot of swag! As to his keyboardist, Reese Wynans, he plays with Joe Bonamassa these days!
It's hard to say that the way things are in the world now, they might be worse than they were 40 years ago. But I wouldn't know because I'm 32.
@@dillonsronce2583 Dillon, I turned 59 a couple of weeks ago. When I was in 2nd grade they integrated the schools in Richmond, VA where I grew up. They bussed us from the suburbs - which were probably 98% white, to literally the poorest and most crime ridden neighborhood in the city limits. Things were so bad there were riots. There were drug dealers on every corner. Things in that neighborhood were so bad they chained the doors on the school and every classroom was locked during classes. The people who lived there were poor and homes and tenements and homes were in very bad shape. Racial tensions were bad, to say the least. Having said that, I believe that it's actually a lot worse now. We are not only divided on racial lines, but also along political lines, religious beliefs, financial strata, and are seemingly forced to be so politically polite that we're bending over to kiss our own backsides (woke). Our country as a whole has forgotten a very important truth: a house divided cannot stand. And here's another: a country divided from within its easily conquered from without. All civilizations fall eventually - without fail. It is my personal observation that as technology advances those civilisations (empires, countries) fall quicker than those who went before them. I'm a realist, and the future is looking pretty bleak to me - so much so that I told my son the best thing he could do for his children was to not have any (not that he listened). I expect that sounds harsh to you, and for your sake and for those who come after you, I hope I'm wrong. Just remember to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. One last comment and I'll let you go. Using "racial" to divid us by color is an incorrect and grossly misused term (and one that I wish would vanish from our vocabulary). We are ALL one race - the HUMAN RACE!

Yes!!! ❤ SRV!!! He was a local boy and Texans are still proud of him. Im lucky enough to live 20 minutes from where he lived in Dallas/Oak Cliff and I visit his grave every few months to pay my respects.
Recommendation: pretty much anything from Austin City Limits in 1989, but especially Look At Little Sister (youll know why), Tightrope and Voodoo Child.
Speaking of Voodoo Child, theres a video of him playing, an audience member walks up and puts his hand out, wanting a handshake. In the middle of the song, Stevie Ray, shakes hands with the guy for a good 10 seconds...while still playing with his left hand.
Stevie is the greatest. Usually with guitar solos, I'm in awe like Eddie Van Halen, Jeff Healey, Nuno Betancourt, but songs like this by Stevie with his solos, bring me to tears, and no other guitar player does that for me.

I was at Stevie Ray Vaughn's last concert the night his helicopter crashed after the show at Alpine Valley, Wisconsin August 26th 1990. The fog was so bad that we stopped and got a hotel room on the way home. The next morning when I heard the horrible news was one of the saddest days of my life. The lineup was SRV, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray and Buddy Guy .RIP SRV!

He was high af in 1986, that speech was from the heart about a current event....later on, about a year later when he almost died & got 1000% sober (& stayed that way for the rest of his life), hed still make a speech during that song, but from then on it was about how drugs & alcohol will kill u, & to stsy away, “that sh!t’ll kill u”, i believe he’d say, b/c hed been there

This was Passaic NJ. Sept 1985. Stevie went into rehab in the fall of 1986 at the same time as bassist Tommy Shannon and best friend. Stevie in Georgia Tommy in Texas. He gave the speech before and after but as you said it was based on sobriety. The current event was South Africa during apartheid.
Kathy, I love when you noticed the guitar changed, it was so smooth that you were not sure, but yes it did happen. He was giving the look at hos equipment guy and he just showed up and changed it out without missing a beat. SRV is a True Legend.
Stevie Ray Vaughan was born in DallasTexas on October 3,1954 when his older brother Jimmie Vaughan was 3 yrs old,, Jimmie who is a great guitarist in his own right and had a band called The Fabulous Thunderbirds got an electric guitar when he was 10 yrs old and Stevie Ray loved it so he would try to play it while Jimmie was gone. Stevie Ray was given a toy guitar for his 7th birthday and still learned to play a song called Wine Wine Wine by Lonnie Mack and Thunderbird by The Night Caps (on a toy guitar). Jimmie would give Stevie Ray his electric guitar when he got a new one for Stevie Ray's first gig in 1964 at a roller rink Stevie Ray was only 10. In that same yr Stevie Ray joined a band called The Chantones but left when the singer wanted them to start wearing makeup. In 1971 Jimmie gave Stevie Ray his guitar that was signed by a famous sports figure and Stevie Ray had it until his death on August 27,1990. This song has other versions and every versions had a different but similar message. In 1977 Stevie Ray put a band together called Triple Threat Reuve with Lou Ann Barton on vocals but when she left on June 24, 1979 Stevie Ray took over as vocalist for the band, then other members started to leave. Chris Layton on drums joined the band September 10, 1978, Tommy Shannon who was in a band with Stevie Ray called Krackerjack when Stevie Ray was a teen joined the band on June 23, 1981 and Stevie Ray changed the name to Double Trouble. Reese Wynans joined the band June 7, 1985. On December 13 1983 Stevie Ray was voted Guitar Player Magazine's Best New Talent, Best Electric Blues Guitar Player and Best Guitar Album with Texas Flood, Stevie Ray is only one of 2 guitarist to win the Triple award guitarist along with Jeff Beck. On November 18, 1984 Stevie Ray won a W.C.Handy National Blues Award, Entertainer Of The Year and Instermental Of The Year and was the first white person to win either. Stevie Ray never got to enjoy a #1 hit but 2 months after his death Crossfire hi #1 and the awards kept coming. On August 26th and 27th Stevie Ray went to EastTroy Wisconsin to open for Eric Clapton at the Alpine Valley Music Theater along with Robert Clay, Buddy Guy and his brother Jimmie, on the 27th after Eric Clapton's set Stevie Ray, Buddy Guy, Robert Clay and Jimmie got on stage and Sweet Home Chicago was the last song Stevie Ray ever performed, Stevie Ray boarded a helicopter that night and the pilot crashed into a mountain right after takeoff and everyone on board were killed instantly. Imo STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN WILL ALWAYS BE THE GOAT

Sorry I know I keep commenting but I love to watch Kathy's reaction, she reminds me of me when I watched Stevie Ray for the first time 40 yrs ago. Reese Wynans joined Double Trouble June 7, 1985 and he was playing keys with The Allman Brothers Band formed by another great guitarist named Duane Allman, Duane Allman's brother Greg Allman wanted to join the band and Duane didn't want 2 keyboards so he let Reese go. Reese did play keys when there was a 50 yrs anniversary celebration for The Allman Brothers Band, Reese is now on tour with another great guitarist named Joe Bonamasa( I probably spelled that wrong 😂) Stevie Ray could also play the guitar behind his head, backwards, one hand, broken string, switched guitar without missing a beat and you can see that on Austin City Limits Look At Little Sister, teeth, no hands just by moving the guitar up and down side to side, tune his guitar while playing, adjust his AMP'S while playing one handed, his elbow and play behind his back longer than anyone ever could past or present. Stevie Ray never learned to read music so he said he played from the heart and he never used a play list because he said he didn't know what or how he was going to play a song, that just goes to show you how great Double Trouble was, they went on stage not knowing what they were going to do but never missed a beat even. Sorry this is my last comment I promise. 😂

Yes his keyboardist name is Reese Wynans and he is amazing can play multiple keyboards at once he’s so good. Before he was added to the band there was only three of them in SRV and Double Trouble the Bass and drummer. If you want to see how good he is then you should react to SRV live in Austin Texas playing

which is a master class in music. He wrote it to help all those suffering. It is his gift to us all and is why I still miss SRV gone too soon may God Bless his amazing soul…

@@KathyLuluandDonna Every live performance that Stevie Ray Vaughan has done is unique and has its own awesome vibe, but he and his guys have made some official music videos that should not be overlooked by reactors. The videos lend even more to understanding and appreciating Stevie, his talent, and how special he was, and Tommy, Chris, and Reese are, too.
I know someone is requesting you do a reaction to a particular live performance of Stevie's song, "Cold Shot," but I'd like you to consider doing the official music video that SRV and Double Trouble did of the song. It spoofs Stevie's obsession with guitars, and is absolutely HILARIOUS!!! And it's all set to the studio track of this amazing song. The video shows with a sense of humor about that dependency he had... a mystical, emotional, and even physical one. It also depicted the loyalty of Double Trouble members sticking with him, understanding him, through all kinds of situations. Stevie's connections all seen through humor about his relationship with his guitars. So well done, and revealing about his life.
The official music video of "The House Is Rockin'" is so much fun, too. You'll be rocking. And the one for "Couldn't Stand The Weather" is as intense as a derecho with driving rain!
I also love their official music video done to their cover of Stevie Wonder's intricate hit song "Superstition." It's really entertaining and clever, featuring a black cat causing mischief through a rehearsal session, with the band members and crew clearly unlucky, but SRV emerging unscathed. Stevie Wonder, who really admired SRV... both the man and his musicianship... had them record the song in his own studio, and even made a cameo appearance at the end of the video. The two Stevies became great friends. After SRV's untimely death in that helicopter crash in 1990, Wonder even sang at Stevie's funeral... the poignant song choice, "Amazing Grace," couldn't have been more apt, not only because of how SRV was rescued from addictions and turned his life around, but for Stevie Ray's genuine humility and gratefulness for all that had been given him, and the respect, love, kindness, and help he showed others.
Maybe you'll get to one or two of those "official" music videos sometime. I'd like that. Also would like to see you react to his 1989 live performance of "Leave My GIrl Alone" (one of my favorites, and a quite aggressive performance where you can hear SRV sounding, in both vocals and guitar, like waves of angry bees responding to someone poking at their hive with a stick).
You should also react to the studio version of his exquisite and tender "Riviera Paradise." In some of his live performances of the song (also incredible), he dedicates the song to "all who are suffering."
Loving your reactions and approach, and as a new subscriber am enjoying not only your discovery of the different sides of SRV, but enjoying your reactions to performances of other artists and bands. My favorite SRV video and song. In an interview with Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon of Double Trouble they said Stevie never planned when he would do the behind the back or other things like that. And, they said they rarely had a set list of what they were going to play. Apparently he had an inquisitive mind. One night in his hotel room they found him staring at 2 Sharpie pens. One was full the other dried out. He wanted to see if the dry one would take ink from the other. Great interview on TH-cam.

He did a great version of this in Nashville in the late 80s a benefit concert for Jerry’s Kids. The whole concert was great but he did this song I felt a tear well up. And if you like Stevie check out the Austin city limits Voodoo Child live performance it’s amazing. Liked

other than hendrix, stevie ray was the man... i always wanted to see him live, but unfortunately he was killed before i could, he was one of my guitar heros... hard to believe that aug. of this yr he will be gone 34 yrs, i remember that day very well..
He changed guitars when he stretched the E sting. You can see him try to get it back to E on the neck but you can't fix a bad string without stopping. He always played E hard and has this issue a lot. He always wanted to sound as perfect as he could playing what was really a amazing sounding old Fender but was and is hard to keep in tune.
He's arguably the best. He's right up there with Randy rhoads and Eddie Van Halen
You know I watched a interview with Stevie Ray's brother Jimmie Vaughan and alot of people talk about his drug use and that is why she sweats so much but I wonder if they know about his childhood, it was alot like mine. He was raised with a abusive alcoholic father who beat Stevie Ray all the time, Jimmie said Stevie Ray got it the worst and he didn't know why but like me Stevie Ray was the smallest and sensitive one in the family to where Jimmie was rough and convenient one. Abusers go for the weakest one, at a very young age I was beaten with a board with nails in it and locked in a basement with no windows and dirt floor. Stevie Ray started drinking at the age of seven and struggled with drugs and alcohol, I think that when you're raised in that kind of situation you what want to know why but you also don't want to deal with it so you need to numb the pain. You can go one of two ways let it kill you or you find your strength and over come and thank God he overcame it and was better for that ( like me) Stevie Ray help so many people, he help his brother get clean and sober. Stevie Ray did so many good things for everyone, he gave to charity's and fund-raising for people who needed it. As you can see Stevie Ray had a huge heart and just wanted people to love each other. Stevie Ray was clean for only four years but reached out to help anybody who needed help. Stevie Ray and his friend Doyle Bramhall wrote alot of songs together including this song for his good friend Charlie who passed away of a heart attack and alot built this whith guitar Stevie Ray named Charlie Wirz. Stevie Ray Vaughan will always be THE GOAT imo

I never noticed the way he looked and for a brief moment it didn't look like him, his facial expressions were off a bit it was kinda weird also the way his right eye pupil was pulling to the right really hard I've just never noticed that ? His speech was not normal , it was like he wasn't there I enlarged it and focused on his face while he was speaking and eyes IDK I've seen this many times , but this time it was his face that got my attention then his eyes then the way he spoke his words I'm not talking about his voice it's like he was speaking on higher level was this before or after rehab??? Because after rehab he didn't sweat as much nor did he struggle as much
