I used to have a friend named Pat. Constantly he would tell me that so-and-so did such-and-such. I told him I didn't care and that these folks could manage their own affairs. "I see these things" he would tell me. I said that he shouldn't see them as they were none of his business. I have enough difficulty minding my own business without minding others'. I can't stand the gossip. I also make a deliberate attempt to be happy. Today, while driving my bicycle in a blizzard (I have no motor vehicle), I told a person on the street that "it's a nice day" and meant it. I described the weather as "exhilarating".

It would be so nice to be married to one of these. It’s not even as Grandpa said, “what would she want with me”. Or my best childhood friend, “you can get her, but can you keep her”. No, it’s taking her home to the family, who now are all dead, and seeing that your family’s pretty screwed up when it comes to dealing with her, and it would mean kind of leaving your family behind.
