Simple , obvious , clear and where were you before I spent a fortune . Wow what an eye opener . Brilliant little clip and worth a lot of money in savings . Top class info , top class guy.
Thanks, I needed this. Right on time. I had snagged the RME UFX iii and was looking to grab the Ferrofish Pulse 16 to use it with, but just decided to return the UFX in exchange for the Arturia AudioFuse 16 Rig and save enough to later grab that Pulse 16 to go with it. I’m quite sure it won’t be as nice as the UFX/Pulse 16 combo, but it should get the job done for much less…😎👍🏾
You can always base your studio around the rme digiface which has 4 sets of Adat in and outs then you can hook up any preamps you want to with via adat and have extremely low latency! When it comes to clocking you can always clock via adat as well . For example I have the ensemble FireWire unit which is Mac only but I wanted to used it on my windows system so what I did was I got the digiface and connected to it via adat and then connected the rme to my computer I also have the Steinberg mr 816 and that’s also connected to my to the rme via adat both units are in stand alone which now I have 16 in and outs I still can add two more 8 channel adat units which will give me a total of 32 ins and outs if needed . It’s a very flexible system!! No latency issues no pops or clicks just smooth audio!
I love the Ferrofish as well. So amazing. I have a cheap Ai3 as well and its like night and day. So I just have my "not so important stuff" going through the Ai3 or when I have guest, :)
I eventually graduated to the RME raydat pcie card it’s got 4 pars of Adat. That allows me to run the Ferrofish pulse 16 and the cranborne 500 Adat for outboard gear.
I bought a scarlet to connect to my Apollo twin, brother wanted to try the scarlet he had a presonus 1824c so we switched. I couldn’t connect them and the problem was you couldnt set the 1824c as a stand alone to sync the apollo to. Scarlet connects no problem
🤦🏾♂️ I’m too late. Just got this information after I got the octopre today. Lol. I have the Rme ucx ii needed more I/o and got octopre I need the 8 outs just as much as the 8 ins. The ferofish was initially 1st on my list. Should’ve went with my 1st mind. Thanks for the video
Sorry to hear that, and after hearing story after story about those same mistakes, I decided to make this video. The Ferrofish is a great tool. It takes some time to get the proper levels together, to work well with your outboard gear, but once you get through all the gain staging, it's worth the effort. I may do a video on proper gain staging soon. Thanks for watching.
@@gsharpjamz that’ll help. I have the RME total mix software that handles the gain stage but a video still would be a big help. I was setting up my patch bay then got to the adat cables and noticed the 2 outs on the octo pre and just didn’t pay much attention had to run some errands and saw this video while I was waiting in the car. And immediately kicked myself in the you kkow what. I paid overnight shipping too. Lesson learned.
So which Focusrite Octopre do you have? I have a Focusrite Clarett Octopre and it has 2 ADAT Outs and 2 ADAT Ins, and WC IN/OUT! I know theres better out there, but for the price its pretty awesome! I got it for $400 used. Honestly the conversion is actually really nice, and ill often just use it to patch in extra outboard preamps with my Apollo X8p. The preamps on it are definitely useable, but not the best headroom. Ill usually use them for utility mics, like hi hat, ride, room mics, maybe toms. The Ferrofish stuff is def top notch though! Another one I'd recommend to people is the Audient ASP 800.
I don't own the Octopre. I previously owned one. I use the 18i20 and the Ferrofish. The Ferrofish is GREAT, considering the price. I don't know how they made such a great product for such a low price! I also have the Audient ASP800, sitting in my closet, waiting for my new studio, where I will use it for drums.
Great info, thank you Sir! Looks like you have 2 535's in your lunchbox. Just getting into the analogue game and 500 series, why do folks install 2 of the same module? Thanks
Thanks for watching. The 535 is a compressor. Using 2 of them gives you the ability to create a stereo compression environment. Basically, stereo compression sounds 100 times better (especially on the mix bus) than using just one (mono) compressor.
@@gsharpjamz Got it, I have the 535, 511 and 551. Guess I'll have to stay mono until I can afford duplicates of each for that stereo sound. Also have the 542, saw your video on that too. Very informative Sir! Salute
Hey i have a Baby Face Pro FS and i want to use my adat to use some guitar effects pedals. Which device would you recommend for a cheaper budget (less than a $1000.00)?
Does anyone know how the ferrofish Pulse 16 compares to the black line audio revolution 8x8? I hear that the black lions conversion is very high quality along with the clocking. The pulse may match up with my RME better but I don't need 16 IO...
Hello Sir .. can you help me out I have a RME babyface pro Fs and I wanna start purchasing some analog synths and maybe one or 2 FX units nothing crazy
Ok. Well, it all depends on a few things. What type of music do you create? What is your budget? When you say FX units, are you referring to reverb and delay boxes, or EQ and Compression? How much experience with analog gear do you have? G Sharp
Just a tip: In this video, so far I’ve watched 3 minutes and you only have come into your studio and has not yet stared to talk about the subject. I’m thinking, is it worth it to keep watching? Edit: At 4:19 ! (that’s almost half the video!) you say “Here’s something important that you need to keep in mind:” Let’s see if it is. Edit: At 7 minutes I give up. The only thing you’ve mentioned is that you have to know that you need to connect the output to an input. Come on! Do you honestly think that nobody knows that? That’s how people connects their charger to their phone. How guitarists connect their guitar to an amp. How a grandmother connects a lamp to an outlet. Important tips?? This is the first time I’ve written a comment like this. I’m usually a happy person, but this was a bit too much. Sorry.
Sorry you didn't get more out of the video. You may be more advanced/educated than others when it comes to this subject. My points were twofold. 1) Emphasizing the price point of the Ferrofish Pulse 16 as compared to other gear that are much higher in price. 2) Early on, I made the mistake of purchasing gear before truly understanding what I needed, as far as the proper connections are concerned. That can be applied to any gear you purchase, and it goes deeper than knowing the difference between an input and an output. For instance, some modules tell you that you should use TS cables and not TRS cables when using their "Insert" Jack's. But most folks don't read manuals. - The mic and line inputs of the Neve 1073 should not be used simultaneously, but folks just don't realize that, and figure, "Well, it's there, so I can use them both at once. Just 2 examples I could give of several, where folks overlook what others may see as obvious, depending on the experience level. I appreciate your comments and critiques. I honestly do, and I'm not trying to justify my comments in the video, but clarify them here.
Skip adat go Dante, thank me later. Even better get an usb interface, get a mini pc for 200$ and use dante "via" to get the signal to your daw or to your mixer with a dante to audio interface.

Thank you! I was bashing my head over this and trying to figure it out.
you can do any thing as long as the ins goes to the outs.. GREAT VIDEO BRO!!!
Thanks.
As simple as it seems, my point was to do your research and know that what you're buying is what you need.
@gsharpjamz we all made that mistake when it comes to shopping and when you get home you want to cry. The video was very important as simple as it is
