That’s a hot crock of shit, my friend. This is pure talent and control. The slight imperfections are what make this so impressive, coz you know it’s all him.
I’ve spent decades believing Tom probably used some guitar magic to create the high pitch @3:16 by blending it over Brad’s track. I stand corrected and flabbergasted. Holy smokes, man.
Brad's voice gave me goose bumps the first time I heard this song back in 1976 and it still blows me away now that I'm in my sixties. What a phenomenal voice!
In my humble opinion at the age of only 23 I firmly believe it doesn't get better than this. Just when you think Brad held the note long enough he soars higher without evening stopping to breathe. No pause in pitch, no cracks. The combination of Tom Scholz's genius and Brad Delp's range and harmonies, how could it get better. RIP Brad
True and good! Boston's sound owes a lot to the blending of guitar and voice; that much I knew. But today I learned (around 3:15 in this video) how very much that outcome owes to Mr. Delp's special, nearly unique vocal ability. I really had not known that, because I'd read things suggesting that had Mr. Delp not come along, Mr. Scholz's inspiration could have been realized by whomever eventually auditioned well enough. This recording sure sets me straight on that point.
Dude.....if you’re not a seasoned musician, you may not realize how incredibly hard it is to double track a vocal so accurately that you create phasing where the voices almost cancel each other out. Unbelievable.
@@StereoClassics If you read John Boylan (who produced Boston - Boston w/ Tom Scholz)'s interview with Dan Daley, he says that all vocals were doubletracked *except for the lead vocals* .
I don't know what to tell you, he must be mis-remembering. The multitracks tell a different story. I added no ADT to this mix, all the vocals were manually double-tracked.
@@StereoClassics The point is that they didn't double track the vocals by having Brad sing two separate tracks, it's not humanly possible to be locked in so tightly for the entirety of the song (and I say that without any hyperbole).

It gives those sections a fullness. I joke about whether Brad pitched his voice to Tom's guitar or vice versa.

"More Than a Feeling" sounds as fresh as it did back in 1976. Timeless.
Man! Brad had such master control of his voice. Not just his incredible range, but breath control, diaphragm support, the whole package!
