Episode four of Project Z! Time to fit some gnarly JDM style... from Italy. Nardi Steering wheel wheel install. As wheel as a new gear knob and hand brake boot, because who doesn't enjoy the sensual feeling of new knob boots. Sorry for the delay between videos, we have heaps planned for the Z32 but are at the busy end of the year! Both Stivva and Ben have day jobs we have to smash out before we can hit up Project Z but we are both committed to Intake and aim to give you guys the best content we can!

I never got a quick release to work well in this car, at least for me. I'm short at 5'7. Ended up with an NRG short hub and a 1/2 inch spacer for near perfect fitment.

You can get a works short bell hub that might work with hicas also comes with resistors to cancel air bag light if you had one
This is hilarious, yet informative. Don't they make a lower profile hub for the Z32?

You asked for a comment well here ya go. if you got a flatter steering wheel it would have been a lot more closer to the dash as it wouldn't have sit so far out. just saying. great vids mate your a good ol laugh and a lot of hints n tips picked up along the way when restoring my Z tt2+2.

Short hub with slim quick release, or hub and quick release with a flat steering wheel
I used a NRG shorthub with the quickrelease for my z32, and there's also supposed to be an o-ring on the old shift boot that goes on the new one.
Simplicity In hindsight, that combination would have been fine. But the availability of the NRG hub with Hicas was non existant at the time I ordered the parts.
As for the O-ring. Put it down to weight saving.

Died, loving your videos. Recently acquired a 300zx and am just watching through your 300zx videos for ideas.
There are certain ideas of what not to do... Like scaring yourself with a horn honk.
To make the e brake boot fit tighter fold it over on it's self in the grove so it's doubled over with the button on the inside. It's tight and hides the button. This is what I did to fix mine.

Hey mate great video, currently doing mine aswell and am wondering what is that black ring piece that is still in your hub that you say to connect for the horn? I’ve got a 1991 non hicas and I took the steering wheel (looks same as yours) and it doesn’t seem to have that

Tip on correct measurement for anyone adjusting seat to steering wheel
, when seated stretch both arms out to the wheel position hands last the wheel at 9 and 3 you wrist joint to line up with the side of the wheel at 9 n 3 this is from top race car drivers school, I actually got it from Nigel Mansell back in the 90s. Your control while driving will be great enhanced if you don’t know this try it, esp important for “female drivers”, they are the worst for being to far away from the wheel. Call me sexist but I never been riven wrong on that re women, about the only thing I get right with them haha.

Gotta get a NRG short hub instead. It’s about half the length of the boss kit and looks a little nicer as well.

Might be worth checking out NRG slim quick release or similar from another company? Might work a bit better for you
99.9% sure that's a fake Nardi... Nardi steering wheels definitely don't have a problem with the horn button fitting through the center and the shiny look to the leather (and painted look on the spokes) makes it look fake (Nardi steering wheels also have a serial number on the back of them since 2012).

Not for the use of Hicas (I think), but that will be going soon!

What state are you in? Is replacing a stock wheel with an aftermarket wheel legal? I know there a shit ton of rules around replacing rules

gav240z I didn't drive it brother! I needed a car that I could drive everyday if I wanted. Powersteering, AC, Super Hicas, all the mod cons. Well, maybe not the Super Hicas.

Is it mandatory to install a Nardi in a 300ZX? Mine has one, and well every single one I have ever seen has one too. I recommend a cordless rattle gun for such jobs too.
tangles01 Yeah mate. The law was passed last week. It is now mandatory for Z's to have a Nardi installed as replacement for any standed wheel. Many beers would have been consumed to pass that law.

My cruise control is still functional, so I’m keeping my stock wheel. Definitely not mandatory.
The only cruise control my car had was 5th gear and a steady foot.
