Hey! I was one of the community moderators for this game, and as of today, I have stepped down from that position. And no, I did not ban anyone from the server, as my primary role was to gather community feedback, bug reports and just interact with the small but dedicated community. I considered it an honor to serve in that capacity for about 2 years, and if you saw a Brandon "aileronroll" on the server, that is me. :)
Truth be told, even us moderators were blindsided by this decision. We were not told of this "publisher" until mere hours before it was pushed through the server. When that happened, half, if not more, moderators left the team, and around a 90% drop in playerbase happened on Steam, and will continue to drop until August 1st (EOL). And I share your disappointment, as I shared that sentiment with the dev team prior to me leaving the mod team. To work so hard in trying to maintain a small but dedicated and passionate community just for all of that work to get thrown out the window...yeah, it sucks. I just hope that the devs that have been active, like Denis with his amazing story telling, JoT with his expertise in PVP, Volk, who is a wizard with Linux and BlownGasket, who last week left for another studio, land on a solid studio that would use their talents to their potential. This situation is awful all around, but the dev team were super talented and really gracious to us mods.
I hate that it ended the way that it did, but it's time to leave this game behind and start on new adventures. Thank you for covering this! I appreciate you!

NFT games have made bank with fake non-games, getting outside-the-industry investment. Now that those are all (obviously) failing en mass, the logical next step is what we see here: a real game made by a real team that reaches the end of their money long before they had a chance to get any traction in a crowded and competitive space getting bought by a shady NFT outfit who sees the chance to "differentiate" their scam by at least starting with something functional.

    • @wyqydsyq

Yeah in all honesty unfortunately this is probably going to pay off for them (Faraway). Most crypto games until now were tokens/NFTs first and vaporware husk games as an after thought. But with a base game that is fleshed out and actually has some enjoyable gameplay and NFTs just sprinkled on top, this is going to get giga hyped in crypto communities, they;ll be all "2024 the year of crypto gaming! HV-MTL to the moooon!". Which will cause the NFT values to spike, then once the cryptobros start to lose interest and player pop dwindles just like the previous non-crypto community did prices will crash and it will be dead for good.

I'm one of the hardcore players that's stuck around since day 1. A lot of the guys i know are from the NDA period or around my time. I've been living this nightmare in the discord all day, and I have so much information that I am more than willing to drop in a comment. I also know the anon source that supplied the information that was used in this video. Everyone felt betrayed, some more than...a few who decided to defend instead.
As I said, I've been playing since right before Season Alpha. I've witnessed a lot both behind the surface of the game, and the game itself. Just wanted to say this was really the final straw and the biggest surprise the entire community had. This started at midnight in the server on July 3rd. It just went downhill from there. This seemed to be such a well kept secret that a not insignificant amount of developers were not even aware, including community team members and discord staff. A few key developers did indeed leave over this, the seemingly only community member that was active and employed by FL did not even know anything, as well as any of the discord mods.
Regarding the A1RDOG statement. That statement was when the game had Wargaming as the investment company. A1RDOG himself stated that he left when WG pulled out as well. That statement was true at the time, or A1RDOG might've been lied to as well. It's obvious this was a well kept secret.
Just to put some fresh info out there as well. It's not just P2W, as they (Faraway) plan on adding "Competitive PvE" to the game as well, which they also said you will be able to use the drones (they're apparently pronounced heavy metal) in for a huge advantage. That's right. they're incentivizing people to buy a NFT to potentially win money. They also stated they wanted to make these drones in-universe canon. They have no new functionality either as they're just a remodeled Strafer heal drone with Malva's drone zap attacks and extra range. They also stated they only made 21k of these NFT's, which if you look at the steamdb charts. It peaked pretty much at this number. Make of that what you will.
The discord turned into a bloodbath. A comment further down from MrBrandonPlaysDrums names some of the devs. Another was Vait, who did the weapon animation work. As well that comment also goes into some of the mod stuff but 3 mods had stepped down as a result. A lot of bans were handed out some for seemingly no reason ("Overstaying your welcome" was the ban reason of the anon source btw), and others were for "toxicity" when it was either negative feedback or dissenting opinion. Some of the bans were indeed legitimate.
Outside of the recent controversy. Some people likely never were aware of the lack of communication from the devs either. We couldn't even get patch notes, and still can't. They take feedback, slap it on the Trello board, and then do absolutely nothing with it too. Game breaking bugs that we've reported several times might as well be considered intended features at this point. We could barely get any answers within the discord. They're also holding a QnA this Saturday, which we had been asking about for over a year now. They kept skirting around and said "soon." Well it was obvious they were waiting for this announcement. Lack of comms is partially why the game struggled to maintain 200 peak daily players too.
The game had huge potential. Shame to see it go out like this. We were all expecting them to just EOS the game on the 1st and be done. Not this. No one expected this. Especially to not even be told by the crypto partner at that. Which also raises a good question. With 6 years in dev, and an average team of 200 (it fluctuated quite a bit), a "free and open source" engine, where is that money going? That's AAA budget levels for games. For a game and company of this scale and to not even have a product anywhere near full release (it's still rough as Taras keeps changing the vision every few updates), where's the money going?
Also at the time of typing this up (02:08 on July 4th), the BigFry charm has not been removed. I would doubt if they care enough to.

Another case of “who the fuck wants this”. Just like with DrDiddlers ex-game studio: what the fuck is even the point of the NFT’s. I have seen zero people ask for NFT’s in their games. The only place NFT’s would even have a place in the gaming industry is in something like VRChat or second life. Even then, I’d prefer the ability to directly purchase things instead of the overly complicated mess that is NFT’s.
Also, I absolutely hate the prize pool money. It’s gonna push the game from a casual fun experience into a hyper-competitive slog.
Why the fuck does every multiplayer indie FPS seem to kill itself off. Hell, even I am considering just canceling my multiplayer FPS because I don’t wanna incur the curse that seems to befall every single one of them.

Compared to other games people were not even complaining about this game having microtransactions during early access since they were trying to make something unique-ish and because of the circumstances they worked in, now imagine how everyone who supported them and spent money feels.

All they had to do was keep a nice marketing budget for youtuber sponsorships, conventional Tv ads, etc. and keep the revenue coming in with some good cosmetics in the item store and battlepass. They would've had a million dollar IP on their hands in no time at all. Instead, years later nobody even remembers this game and what i considered to be one of the most fun free games on the market is selling out to pursue NFT'S, losing the few players that still wanted them to succeed in the process.

I hope the developers see the negative feedback and try to steer the game in the right direction. even though its dead

Crypto games have been loudly and majorly rejected by the entire gaming community. They may as well just not relaunch it at all.
Launching on Epic only, when the only following you have is on Steam. Granted they were down to like 200 players anyway. But Epic only launches just don't do well.
They were always pretty terrible with communication to their players, long before this debacle.

This game can be fun for the first two or three days, then becomes nothing the next week and even if you don't play it you won't miss it at all, and it has always been like that. People are just stuck with these games, where they see a concept that is close to a game they envision, and they starts to feel that this is their game, it has what they want, or it will have what they want at some point in the future, and be blind to the fact that the game is not good enough, and even if it has potential, it will not be good enough in the future. Good games are good from the start, there isn't such a thing as: this game is going to be good in the future. When you first played Red Dead Redemption 2 you didn't think the game is fine but has potential, hence it's going to be good in the future, so I'm going to keep playing with the hope that its going to get good. When you first booted up Red Dead Redemption, you just knew, saw, and felt, that this is a good game, because it is a good game.

    • @Lenariet
      @Lenariet 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

There are some critical voices regarding the CS:GO and TF2 economy. It's not really a good point to make either way. Because if those two games, or let's say Rust for example, have been doing it for many years without any blockchain involved then it obviously doesn't need NFTs. That being said not every NFT implementation has to be the same. Shatterline worked without and is gonna tack it on as an afterthought, it wasn't designed from the start with NFTs and pay-to-earn in mind. Still, if they think they will attract any or some good kind of additional players they are in for a negative surprise.

People get really mad about "NFT" in gaming, yet no one is mad about CS:GO and CS2 skins which essentially are the exact same thing.
The problem with NFT games, is that there was never any good implementation of it.
Once the game is labeled as "NFT Game" the devs forget about the gameplay and focus on money making, so all NFT games are usually terrible and not fun at all.
Counter-Strike does not call it's skins NFTs but essentially they work the exact same way, and people enjoy the game, it even makes the game more enjoyable for some.
(The only issue now with CS2 is the cheater problem)
People do like to grind for fun, and if there is a reward afterwards that you could sell for a couple of bucks that would be even better, it's just that no one has ever managed to "balance" these NFT rewards, and their "Pay-To-Win" mechanics and earning capabilities is what kills the games.
