This was so much better than what disney made of Thrawn. He had a massive empire, a functional, good willing and loved by his subjects one, with nothing of the anti alien policies and brutality of the Galactic Empire. Thrawn's Empire of the Hand really saved and protected people in the wild unknown regions of the galaxy. But in the current Disney's canon, the Imperials can only be one-dimensional villains...
Having seen what has been created since 2012, I do wonder if the recasting of OT characters would have been accepted by the fandom. It would have been necessary to build a continuing story with these source materials. I know many wish for the EU to have been the way forward, but I fear fans wouldn't have accepted new actors. It would be fascinating to see the alternative reality play out.

Usually i stop caring after Episode 6, both when it comes to canon or EU/Legends. But this... this is some good Star Wars
Yeah, it does get interesting after Ep6, especially the splintered imperial factions, which begin to grab power for themselves.
