Imagine how much easier it would have been with a simple "allow only X rarity items/add-ons" or "no duplicate perks" settings in KYF... 😭It has been painful to see how messy each DBD tournament has been for years now.
I agree, i’ve participated in dbd mobile tournaments in the past and i regret doing so. Just the amount of and restrictions on some were laughable and ridiculous. And i do get that some restrictions are there too get a more enjoyable/fair outcome in some tournaments. but there has too be a good and healthy mix between making them fair and making them just plain messy
Weird one for me was "you can't go back to the hook" like...wut? Are you just supposed to ignore an entire chunk of the map until you get another down? That's like telling survivors they can heal under hook for free. Or basically saying "hey. If you can get hooked near a gen and then rescued, just tell your teammates to hide while you do the gen for free since the killer can't come back there until they get another down."
They should have just made 4 pre-set perk builds with general themes (Runner, Healer, Leader, Savior) and had the survivors pick their "role". Then players don't have to worry about all the perk/item related rules. Do the same thing for killer side but just have 1 decent pre-set build for each killer, and call it a day. Though judging by what I saw here, idk if everyone being able to run the meta build would have helped much. DH isn't helpful if you're not sure what it does and DS is downright useless if you can't hit a skill check.
It was probably because they intended to play by DBD’s official comp rules, but it’s very confusing for someone brand new if you have no idea what you’re doing.
Imagine being invited to a tourney with $350k on the line. Downloading the game morning of. Then having the audacity to criticize someone who actually prepped.
It’s funny to hear the survivors arguing about the rules and trying to figure out perks while the other dude is just making gurgling sounds while spinning billy around
You're telling me they were told ahead of time what the game was gonna be and even had time to play the game to get to know it and the one guy who actually prepped for this won? Shocking.
Considering they were playing a couple of other games in the same tournament I'm not surprised if DbD was some of the people's lowest priority when getting prepped
As much as they hated the game, it's important for DBD to take this feedback and adjust the game accordingly. This is literally viewing how a new player plays the game in real time and it's critical to analyse what went wrong and react accordingly
@Estrogen Fury just because someone doesn't play dead by daylight doesn't make him a normie dude... matter of fact, people that don't play DBD ARE the smart ones. We are subjecting ourselves to this torture, again and again because we're addicted and for what? to get backstabbed and disappointed by BHVR again and again and again and ag- if i could i would uninstall and forget this game existed, IN AN INSTANT. dead by daylight is nothing more than a shitty buggy quick cash grab scheme and bhvr has proven time and time again that they simply DO.NOT.CARE. about fixing this game.
This wasn't regular DBD, this was a tourney with complicated rules. DBD has problems with it's balancing but the rules and stuff in this as well as the fact that these people decided not to ever try the game before a match they were playing to win in competitive competition really doesn't make it DBD's fault.
@@nukenade4623it’s such a good build to play casually lol. When I was trying to do the “shock people 500 times as doctor achievement,” I couldn’t even get 30 shocks in a match before the gens were done (I didn’t try to win just shock). I put on the impossible skill check build and got 300+ screams in one match lol. I was going against a fairly decent swf too.
This would be a life-changing amount money for a lot of people. So seeing Tim, Shroud, Courage (11:32) etc. not even put in the *minimum* effort to learn the very basics of the game (or even play it beforehand), actually repulses me. No need to be salty just cause this would change your life, Ludwig's subathon revenue would change the life of anyone and he was literally just sleeping for a third of it.
This is such a hilarious blunder from the DBD folks. They desperately need good press, and this was a great way for these streamers to hate on this game and tell their viewers to avoid it.

"Camping is not allowed" wasn't in the rules they showed at the start of this video, so maybe the girl was just somewhat familiar with dbd and made that rule up, because it's a standard most casual players like to uphold. According to the rules though, tunneling would just give less points, because the point system incentivizes varied hooks, by giving you more points for each different first hook. Also how would you even fairly judge camping/tunneling in a tournament? It's not like there was an impartial judge around to make those calls.

Yeah i even think i have a better idea instead of a tournament they just told them to have fun in custom game like play the game somewhat normally and give them build suggeations for them to try like scratch mirror myers and Decption, head on
ATT organized this, a handful of the games that they had to play no one had ever played, they had a week to prepare and the bigger ego andys only installed the game 1 hour before the actual tournament started
That makes it all the sweeter that so many of them hated the game, called it ass and said they'd never play it again Try and buy players with the "your favourite streamer is playing it" instead turned into "your favourite streamer hates this game, better not play it"
i think the bigger deal is that they banned everything for new players. Wasn't even the game tbh, the fucking terrible tournament organizers were the bigger issue.
@@Bated. The game has problems for new players too. " is there a search button here?" I got 5 mins. into the video and that right there killed me. I am already dead. No Shroud there isn't. Not in 5 years has such an advanced feature been put into dbd. Seeing those streamers in pain playing DBD is pain for me. It’s not because they are bad at the game. It’s because they have no idea what to do, no clue on what’s the meta now, and the worst part is they got put into this random $350k tournament, hated the game, and came out as a fucking disaster. Whatever happens, I hope another tournament like this never happens again. This is the stupidest tournament I have ever seen. I would say a word worst than stupid but I don’t have the guts to. Edit: Fortnite is less of a dumpster fire than DBD at least. It’s pretty fun now.
Honestly I believe the problem here is in the streamers, They are going to play a tournament with thousands of people watching and dont even learn the basics of the game in order to make a decent show. Instead of that they start crying for an hour straight and say the game is trash without knowing anything about it.
A couple took it seriously enough to practice (Jake who won, for example), but most just didn't bother. $350k isn't enough for them to care, I guess...
Banning certain perks, items and addons seems really worthless when no one knows what to do with literally anything. Like why not let a team use 4 giga toolboxes with brand new parts? Then probably waste the toolbox itself by missing regular skill-checks after 😂. Sounds like content to me

At this point, the game has also been out for years and hadn’t even implemented the basics like we have now (the search bar, and the activity hud).
Why did they go into a tournament without doing any prep work first? They didn't even watch any youtube videos or try to figure out what the rules were? At least play the damn tutorial. its always a bad sign when developers use popular streamers for advertising instead of the streamers that already play their game here its even wors due to this game being out for so long. The playerbase is bleeding and it shows
Not sure if dbd organized this, asked to be in the tournament or but, but it was held by AT&T. There were 3 other games included. The developers may have not had anything to do with it, but who knows.
The meta in dbd is so broken that it’s even confusing for the streamers who played this game. They aren’t yelling out of anger at the other players, they’re yelling out at how frustrating the balancing in this game is. This is the reason why dbd can never be considered “competitive” and the devs should accept that. Stop making dbd competitive and focus on making it fun again.
They can only do this by adding less competitive modes because otherwise they will keep adding the same perks with different names for one game mode. This game cannot be competitive because it doesn’t make sense
They just started the game lmao no it's not balance issues it's it being an anti beginner friendly game. No I'm not talking about balancing but about its interface.
You do realize "fun" is what caused the game to end up how it is. Yeah it’s pathetic. They went out of their way to get into this tournament to bring new people to the game, but they accomplished the exact opposite. Most streamers had valid complaints about the comp rules which should’ve been included in the custom game modifiers as well as basic needs like a search bar. DBD took this feedback and has improved heavily (Thank God) but this just shows how out of touch they were and still are to an extent.
Judging from these clips and these clips alone. I say that the fault is on both sides. The people who organized (or who ever) the event giving the streamers (who don't know how to play DBD) a week to prep and giving them a rule list that should only be applied to experienced players and not newbies. On the streamer side. Most of them didn't even practice and didn't take it seriously and thought they could just wing it. What a surprise (Saying Sarcastic) the team that won are ones that actually practiced and didn't first played the game on the day of the event. On the side note. It's unfair that the streamers got access to the stranger things dlc even though no else can get it now. Also screw the guy and girl for cheating. I am never going to watch them. Also if that was their first time playing the game then cheating is kinda pointless since they wouldn't have a clue how the killers play and how to counter act them.
Imagine trying to make what is essentially an imbalanced partygame that isn't suited for competitive play in the first place into a high payout tournament for people, most of which never even played it before. Kinda sums up behavior in a nutshell
DBD is a competitive game in the sense that it's one side against the other. The longer you play, the better you have to be to win. It however, is not a competitive game in the sense of watching or playing for competitions. It doesn't have the balance or the structure for that. Throwing together a makeshift tournament hurts the game way more than it helps it.
Hard to know what to think here, wasn't following this event but i'd reckon if they knew the participants didn't have experience that rules like "no duplicate perks" probably should have just been left out. Also wondering how far ahead they knew the game and ruleset so I can judge if it was their fault for doing no prep beforehand. with a game as unique as this you'd definitely want someone directing the basics of what to do and what's not allowed
I was thinking this too--if there was 350k on the line, how could they not have prepared? But with what the Jake guy at the end was saying, they did have advanced notice, so like... Why did they literally not know how to play lol
@@carlthepumpkinman they won't get backlash from their fans for putting 0 effort into making it run smoothly, so they don't really have to, very few people invest effort into things they don't need to. i can't speak for every participant but for many of them the prize money isn't actually a big deal it could be considered a bit disrespectful but honestly they'll probably just get content complaining about a game regardless so it's not their priority and you know what? dbd/bhvr almost deserve a little bit of the backlash, for constantly missing out on having this stuff be as easily accessible as possible (see otz comment) but at the same time, hot take the tournament rulesets were actually pretty tame and simple, at least the ones they have to bother with doing, were definitely able to be figured out if looked at beforehand (point system unimportant), play like a single hour of the game for goodness sake... not attempting to understand them can undermine the tournament and put future sponsorships at risk
@@solaceinouroblivion2262 yeah I guess I'm used to watching speedrun streamers like SmallAnt challenge other streamers for fun and they both go through great lengths to prepare for a competition with nothing on the line. Like the tutorial literally says very explicitly something like "you should only attempt to get yourself off the hook if it's the only option you have left" and that guy was like "oh I can attempt to unhook myself? Wait am I dying FASTER?!" I'm honestly jealous that they're in a position where they can have a tournament like this and feel they don't even need to run through the game's tutorial before participating lol
So, is there a backstory as to why this tournament was even held in the first place? I feel like it's tournaments like these that will push potential new players away rather then encourage them to try the game, because their favorite streamer didn't like it. Props to Jake for actually putting some hours into the game, thou.
Just smells like BHVR wanting new players, and choosing to bring in a bunch of popular streamers with audiences unfamiliar to dead by daylight. I dont think this tournament failing was really BHVR's fault, but more the streamers fault as they refused to even TRY to play the game before the tourney
I think the hugest issue is that a lot of these players havent played the game before, so they have no understanding on how things work, things get even more complicated with the rules involved, and further more complicated with how little influence the hosts have upon the rules, so most people have no idea what they are doing or if they are breaking the rules. It's just a shitshow.
@@xXTheBl4ckC4tXx No it's not, DBD has a steep learning curve for new players, they have a week to figure out how all the perks work both survivor and killer, how every killer works, where all the generators and totems on each and every map is, etc, etc. So no you're wrong, not their fault.

There's a lot of missing context. They are playing on a custom match with every perk free to use at max level. Your regular beginner isn't gonna be playing customs. They are going to have a couple characters to pick from, each with just a few perks. Those perks because teachable when they level up the character/prestige them, but that is a slow build over time. By the time your list actually looks how it looked to them, you've personally used them all many times before and are very familiar with every single one. This was many of these streamer's first time playing (which is beyond idiotic, as they were given a week to prepare and showed absolutely zero professional courtesy in actually preparing for this expensive event) and it being a tournament, they played in a custom so they see every perk and they're all the same color too which makes them all kinda blend together and seem overwhelming. The 2 solutions would be (1) The streamers adequately preparing for such an event beforehand given how much money is involved or (2) choosing streamers that are already familiar with the game, or are willing to learn how it is played with the week that they are given. Neither of those 2 things happened, and here we are.

I firmly believe, even if the competitors had prepared beforehand, this wouldn't have looked all too different just because so much relies on experience (doing well in chases, doing gens, being altruistic when it calls, ...) and slowly getting to know gazillions of tidbits about various perks, status effects, etc

no camping is a rule in some comp dbd tourneys. It's stupid and lame because they baby down survivors to a point camping is the go to strategy in comp. Comp doesnt wanna deal with anything "broken" so they just make both sides miserable instead
They really need to make a competive mode in KYF so certain criterias are automatically activated when x perk or item is activated. This also shows we need a more in depth guide for new players.
considering everyone was a beginner, for the most part, everyone should of been given the same perks, survivors couldve gotten bond, kindred, lithe/ balanced landing, self care, and for killers something like, barbeque, infectious fright, pain resonance/ floods of rage, and ruin
I didn’t even know this was happening. I don’t think I ever want this to happen. DBD is trying so hard to make the game competitive, yet they don’t know how to advertise their own game right. They keep making the worst choices when it comes to this. I guarantee you that everyone watching this tournament that hasn’t played the game will NEVER want to. At this point it’s like they want the game to fail. They already lost most of their player base, this certainly didn’t help with that.
Firstly, to answer your question Choy: BHVR giving out the codes is probably illegal, so unless someone can correct me on that, they really shouldn't be doing that. Secondly, this tournament is a prime example of two things--one is that the competitive scene for Dead by Daylight is currently a big joke with too many stringent rules and regulations to ever become a viable competitive game; the other is that this also solidifies the fact that this game is meant to be casual-friendly, yet it still lacks so many of the necessities that make it so, such as the many features that these top streamers were complaining about.
No it shows the streamers didn’t give a shit about the game that they had a week to prepare for in a 350k tournament and went in with no knowledge but then get pissed about the fact they don’t know shit

@@BradyPartain Enjoy while you can! past the 500-1k mark with higher mmr it gets miserable, more competitive and toxic. If you're not careful, you might accidently win and get hundreds of angry comments on your profile. It's not nessesarily how easy it is to learn, the amount of perks, addons and learning each individual killer power just looks overwhelming, especially if you're loading in for the first time. If someone told me that they could see my current location by saying "they have barbeque and chilli" I think i'd just leave. It sounds like actual made-up garbage code language to them. I'm pretty sure they didn't even read the perk descriptions and just chose which icons they thought looked cool, which is why everyone lost but the guy who played for hours the week prior with a big name streamer coach. Everyone had a chance to learn the game- they had 5 rounds to do so. What was hard was the playability for new players, who have no idea what the actual hell barbeque has to do with their aura being revealed.
@@commentyouraddressyeah the game is very overwhelming at first. There’s like 30 killers that all have unique powers you need to learn.

Then probably waste the toolbox itself by missing regular skill-checks after 😂. Sounds like content to me

Also it's not unfair it was giving for free not paid, it's unfair stranger things codes are 200$
Imagine trying to make what is essentially an imbalanced partygame that isn't suited for competitive play in the first place into a high payout tournament for people, most of which never even played it before.

Also wondering how far ahead they knew the game and ruleset so I can judge if it was their fault for doing no prep beforehand. with a game as unique as this you'd definitely want someone directing the basics of what to do and what's not allowed

You need to learn almost all of the perks (300+) in order to know their counters, best uses, and how good they are overall. Each year we gain more killers, more perks, and more maps. I wouldn’t even attempt to learn dbd today because it took me literal months to get the game knowledge down and I’m still learning new things constantly.
@@hyperboi4077 isn't this a good thing, learning more about the game constantly?
The funny thing is that I started playing DBD to take a break from OW2's craziness and it just feels way more chill lol
Zero effort made understanding the rules, zero effort made practicing the game or even test running it, refusing to read and generally having super shitty attitudes - gonna blame the streamers on this one. Super embarrassing to watch.. Esp Mizkif
this is a crazy amount of money getting thrown around on one of the most toxic games ever.....350k is life changing money and its getting thrown around like its nothing here lol, hell even 5k would be lifechanging for me as i make less than 2k a year here in the USA.
So there were the smart ones who prepared a week for the game, and those that never played it even though they knew that it would be played....
That is their own fault.
Exactly lol idk why people are shitting on that team for preparing for the tournament?
@@sadneopixel7396 that guy and his team are pathetic try hard though lol
@@jays903 all they did was practice for the tournament?? Literally what are you talking about. If everyone took their time and practiced the tournament would be so much fun and entertaining lol
@@sadneopixel7396 no it wouldn't, that game is absolute trash, and like they say in the video. It has way too many stupid rules to make it "competitive".
The guy is a loser tool try hard, like that last streamer says lol.
All those streamers are losers at the end of the day though, who cares how much money they make off children.
@@jays903 " that guy and his team are pathetic try hard though lol"
It was a $350K tourmanent genius. The smart ones were those who actually did some preparation.
The demogorgon codes make sense.
what sucks is that they are going to be so wasted lmao
They did a pretty good job so far
“Hey! Let’s toss a bunch of big streamers into a game they have zero experience with, impose a bunch of rules when they don’t know the first thing about perk/item/addon rarities, and then offer the winner 350k! This’ll totally bring in a bunch of new players!”
They had 1 week to prepare and someone, that got Dowsy as a coach, won. Their own fault for not putting in any effort.
Wtf was at&t thinking 😆
It's so annoying to have this random people who have never played the game not even try in a tournament in which a high sum of money is the prize... They could have done some research, open the game previously, read the perks, watch some gameplay or at least pretend they did before this. Swear to god watching this was painful.
Felt the same exact way
They should have at least been able to do the tutorial. I can't imagine trying to start this game with every perk open to me at once with no clue what they did.
They had A WEEK to practice
They had a week. Just most of them are idiots who refuse to take any accountability. Pretty sure some of them even launched the game as the time as the tournament.
It is no surprise that the side that won practiced beforehand.
This clearly shows dbd is not a competitive game
Never should and never will. There's just way too much rng in it like a Mario Party game.
Only when the players have no clue what they're doing, like these guys.
@@danielmaster8776 Yeah but it's not their fault, not only have they barely played the game, but it's so overcomplicated and convoluted unless you've been following it that it isn't tournament viable, I mean come on it's literally an *ASSYMETRICAL* Horror game.
@@UnusualTheMedicMain Human ingenuity. If the game doesn't have a set win condition and has a lack of rules, the tournament organizers can make their own.
@@danielmaster8776 they DID make rules, that's not the issue... The issue is that they decided to throw a popular game, seemingly only for views onto these streamers with little to know experience with the game, when there's a HUGE prize pool in this mix. You think that's fair to them? Forcing them to learn the rules of a completely foreign game on the fly for such a grand prize? No. That's inconsiderate and plain moronic.
Plus if you think that Dead By Daylight doesn't have a "set win condition" you probably have no idea what you're talking about.
Tournament rules for DBD have always been a messy affair, but this tournament also highlights just how hard it is to step into this game as a new player.
The player that got dowsy as a coach won this tournament, the players highlighted here were just the ones that had a week and did not care to even play the game before the tournament
Why didn't they let them do the tutorial at least???
you know the game is shitty when you can't just intuitively play it
imagine if in the original League of Legends esport streams they told the players they weren't allowed to take certain objectives if they were winning to make it fair to the other team or if they weren't allowed to take specific masteries or runes
I’m honestly impressed that they got shroud to try a game that wasn’t a shooter
They used comp rules to keep them from using perks that they don't know how to use, or that they even existed
They had 1 week to prepare, the person that got dowsy as coach, won. This just shows the people that did not give any effort at all
@@xXTheBl4ckC4tXx it wasn't a serious tournament, also notice how the person who got a coach wasn't a full time streamer. Its as if he has free time to get coached and the others didn't
@@omgdisfunny4852 But at least play the game to understand the rules. You can´t be mad at a game for not even putting the most basic effort in. Not every game is Call of Duty Deathmatch
@@omgdisfunny4852 You can also stream getting coached, so taking 2 hours is not much to ask. You don´t have to be good, but you should understand the basic rules of the game. Moreover one person could have just prepared the perks for everyone. Basic organisation. Instead of just throw people into a complex raid of any MMO without having ever played the game
@@xXTheBl4ckC4tXx they're streamers. They are paid to be over the top and be entertaining. Them staring at the screen doing nothing isn't entertaining. Also the perks all at once is extremely overwhelming. You forget that perks also change how you actually play a match, they don't know how to play without them
