@Dee Vee the p47 is from that tree, ive flown over 200 missions on the p47 airframe and let me tell you it is not a turn fighter it is boom n zoom, you turn in p47 you are dead
I have to disagree: The thunderbolt is a very capable fighter plane! Its very potent in Air RB. Now granted, the scope of ground RB doesnt play into the strengths of this plane, but you can still abuse them. The thunderbolt is one of the fastest planes at its tier - meaning you can outrun almost everything. Also you have very good bnz capabilities with very little control stiffening. Well - theres tons of guides on how to fly the p47 online, so I wont continue. Baseline is: You can very much dominate with the p47 in ground RB as well. You just have to be extra carefull of your surroundings and make sure you keep speed and height once you got enemy fighters in the area. Your speed will allow you to disengage from any spawning fighter. They which will spawn at around 1000 meters with about 340 kph IAS, so they WILL most likely have the energy advantage above you. BUT your acceleration will allow you to pull away far enough to equal the energy states if you keep an eye on the air spawn. Most players will turn to engaging ground targets anyway so you wont need to run for very long. Then its a matter of gaining energy (altitude + speed) and fighting on your terms in bnz or bnr. Its a very very potent fighter in this play style.
Also, keep in mind: Yes killing ground units is the main goal in ground RB, BUT each plane costs double that of a tank. So if you manage to shoot down a plane you most likely removed that player from the match, in contrast to killing him in a tank which more likely will leave him in a backup vehicle.
I also noticed, at least in the D-28, that you can climb like nobody's business despite how heavy the plane is. Carry 2500 lbs of bombs and still climb at about 200 mph at a good angle. Not the fastest climber, but it keeps close to combat speed even while climbing.
Yeah, P-47 does well in very particular air-v-air scenarios. The one thing you didn't mention above is that the P-47 has superb performance in a dive, so if you do manage to get above another aircraft you can turn that height advantage into even more speed for the getaway beyond just relying on your powerful engine to accelerate out, and if another fast aircraft (mostly German fighters) catches you at altitude you can escape by hitting the deck and diving at speeds that would tear your pursuer apart or send them out of control.
I didn't say those two are comparable am I right? I just said that those two are just nightmares of each other teams. PE-8 once it reaches the target then everything will be gone, including its allies.
There were vets in documentaries that said this thing would run with entire cylinder heads blown off the engine and massive holes in the wings. It may not have been much of a dog fighter, but from the sound of it, it was nearly impossible to outright kill one of these things.

IRL the thunderbolt 1 as it is called is very durable I've seen a short documentary about a pilot who flew a Jug. In it the plane caught fire, ate an entire bf 109's ammo, spun out and still it was able to land safety.
I’ve always found that when playing the P-47 in Ground RB, as long as you play it right, I get a few kills in the air as well At the same time they’re the easiest targets when I oppose them
Unlike many other people I have had a good experience in ground RB with p-47s. Shooting them down with my fw-190 is so fun, then I can go spank some t-29 with the rockets.
for those who want a lower tier aircraft that can do almost the same stuff use the f6f hellcat it can carry 2 1000pound bombs and rockets with 6 browning machine guns at 3,7 in ground rb
P47 isnt a turn fighter but that doesnt mean it isnt a fighter. Give it some altitude and boom and zoom and it can beat any fighter at its tier if played right
I have such P(-47)TSD from this plane that whenever I hear its engine (and it has a very specific engine sound) I look up to the sky to see if it’s after me. Even if I’m playing allies.
@Marshall Waffle aside from that, I don't know what the optimal angle of climb I should do for most aircraft there, since each is quite difference, and for some reason the wiki didn't show the optimal angle to climb there, unless I missing somewhere
I suggest fly in test flights with a bomb load to practice. Keep trying until you can get a bomb kill on the first pass. I did that and now I rarely miss
I think you can defend yourself very well as long as there isn't a ton of enemy fighters up. You have to be very aware of your energy state and plan your drops. Most of the time, you come in after spawn and drop the big bois and extend away to build up E. If no fighters spawn, come in and drop your 500 and rockets in one pass, if possible. If fighters spawn, drop remaining ords and build E so that you can boom and zoom. This thing is like the heli for lower tiers. You can wreak havoc on an enemy team. I love this plane.
I've actually seen the P-47D all the way up in 7.0. I still shot it down with my zero, which I like to use for air superiority and killing jacksons/hellcats, but still.
I know its late, but in my personal experience I can do incredibly well with the jug in ground RB. The trick is all in being the first aircraft in the sky, or hoping enemies are distracted. Even with a full carry load ive snuck up on foes just to delete their 109, 190 or whatnot. Its all about staying low, fast, and sneaky.
Two things that I hate about P-47 players 1. They always spamming their Flamethrowers (50.cals) 2. A lot of them just suicide bomb even though they still more armaments to kill tanks
I'm really happy that you keep uploading new videos. I love you content and it really is high quality. Your ammunition guide was really useful and objective. And most importantly: clean and clear. You other videos are no diffent. Keep up the good work, man.
The thunderbolt is simply awesome. In mixed battels the aircrafts are not marked, drop payload, disengage flying low as possible and fast as possible outside of the danger zone, climb to 2000/2500m, fly over the enemy airsporn and distroy every enemy that comes in to attack your ground units. This aircraft is a real multipurpose aircraft.
Gaijin should add a specific gamemode for ground pounders and bombers, its insane trying to play Allies to 6.3, 4 bombers and 2 grounders with 4 fighters against a team of 109s just climbing to heaven

Actually p47 thunderbolt is a good plane to deal with fighter on ground battle, it can climb on steep angel (I alway kill big attacker and bomber when they try to out climb me when they saw me on spawn)and almost kill every plane in 1 to 2 burst, even pe8 the damn TACTICAL NUKE. So as sometime even I don't enough SP to get bomb and rocket I still bring it up to be air patrol.
the only thing, gaijin ninja-nerfed bombs during the last days, my friends and me did some testings yesterday.. rly sad.. ;( .. still effective sadly just not that effective any more ;( had an ostwind standing in between the 2x 1k pounders and he survived O_o
1000lb bombs are actually not the culprit for crippling that handsome devil's maneuverability (if you don't deem it is crippled inherently). Ten damn rockets are, despite the sheer amount of it, however, they are much less likely to commit any atrocities on your component, so don't take them and it can be a little more versatile and responsive.
You sound like a shitty player if you were out turned by a P47 in a zero, especially if it was fully loaded. There is literally zero way a P47 can outturn a zero unless you seriously suck and dont understand flight mechanics.
Above 450kph ias the big girl turns better than a lot of fighters. Combine that with her massive engine power and huge wings and flaps she can do things that make a lot of axis pilots panic.
@@huntermurphy2148 That's a good point. The Jug is fairly nimble at high altitude, where the Zero suffers. The Zero gets sluggish at high speed too, so it is possible. What makes it even more possible is when a P-47 pilot knows how to use their flaps and rudder vs. a Zero pilot that just uses their mouse to turn.
I love dive bombing in these. Going high ->dive, however not to steep so to keep my plane leveled while in the dive-> then I release them bois at a standoff distance. They'll never see them coming
I think I'm a huge P-47 fan, but I hate use the HVAR rockets on it, just because those make my plane too heavy with the full bomb load. In general, I drop off my load the first sure target and then go back to base or stay at the front line and kill enemy heavy planes
Quick note, I use the French p47 so no rockets but I only use the two 1000lb bombs no 500 as I don't need it and it allows me to get air kills. Also run to spaa? I can have 10 ostwinds on my team and I can guarantee you not s single one would be killing planes only hunting tanks. There could be 20 planes and 1 tank and they would still hunt the tank
i bought this plane 2 days ago and ,now i'm kicking ass i use armored targets rounds mostly they are very efective against both aircarft and enemy tanks buti don't like using it in realistic battle
the only thing i hate about this game is that you need to get a tank kill before being able to spawn in a plane, like i just want to play ground attack but then i get stuck playing tanks for the whole match
Lets play some ground battles! *Sees 10 enemies up on the sky. YEAH. Duck hunt simulator! I'm a German player. Which is why i keep 3 SPAA's and 1 heavy tank in my loadout.
The P-47 should be used as low altitude groundstrike, or high altitude dogfighting. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve gotten away from any German aircraft by raw speed- they dive to chase me, only to know that I drag them into a hornets nest of P51’s and Spitfires.
Hiw to play: 1. Climb, dive miss and bail out 2. Stay low, be killed by literally anything Edit: if y'all try to counter by claiming "multiple .50s" or "better armor than average fighters" 1. Those things are spread wider than my butt cheeks after playing the American tree 2. One metal plate, behind the engine. That's all it has. The pilot can die from any other angle instantly
8 wing mounted .50s are amazing for strafing ground targets, and carrying 2500 pounds of bombs at 4.3-4.7 useless? If played properly in air RB the spread wing mounted 50s act exactly like the B-57 and enable you to volley fire long burst masses at long range. Not to mention your weight gives you a quick dive, albeit you won't hold the speed like other fighters.

These things are like flys you kill one another 2 come ive got ace in the ostwind and wirblwind because of US p 47 spam.
Boom & Zoom in Ground RB is workable
just gotta be a good jug-jocky and skilled at not being a lawnmower.
this thing is great, if you have a bit of luck on your side you can use this plane all the way up to 7.3
Actually p47 thunderbolt is a good plane to deal with fighter on ground battle, it can climb on steep angel (I alway kill big attacker and bomber when they try to out climb me when they saw me on spawn)and almost kill every plane in 1 to 2 burst, even pe8 the damn TACTICAL NUKE. So as sometime even I don't enough SP to get bomb and rocket I still bring it up to be air patrol.
Could the next video be about the puma? Sdkfz 234 variants
the only thing, gaijin ninja-nerfed bombs during the last days, my friends and me did some testings yesterday..
rly sad.. ;( .. still effective sadly just not that effective any more ;(
had an ostwind standing in between the 2x 1k pounders and he survived O_o
At 3:20, the damage you received is because of the bomb, not hitting the ground, impressive flying
Kastro44 I think we know that
OP
You're breathtaking
you can abuse air RB with p-47 too, i use P-47D-28 in air battles. Its too nice
Please do more reviews on tanks as well :)
Keep in mind, this is Gaijin though... I've been out-turned (while flying a turnfighter, like a zero) by a FULLY-LOADED P47 in RB.
You sound like a shitty player if you were out turned by a P47 in a zero, especially if it was fully loaded. There is literally zero way a P47 can outturn a zero unless you seriously suck and dont understand flight mechanics.
@@cattledog901 I too have been out turned by a fully loaded thunderbolt , in a spaded bf109 g2 trop. I didn't use flaps tho
In general, I drop off my load the first sure target and then go back to base or stay at the front line and kill enemy heavy planes
historicaly the P-47 was a good fighter.
Thank you
I love these planes with all the love in my vantablack colored soul
Inhales...

As a german main i hate this plane with every particle of my existence
I was like you, now I enjoy destroying T54s and T10M with Thunder Bolt and P51D-10. But I would be grateful of a only tanks mode.
When war thunder made a plane so realistic that any german heavy player that hears it begins to full speed ahead
I don't even play war thunder but I watched this whole video
Quick note, I use the French p47 so no rockets but I only use the two 1000lb bombs no 500 as I don't need it and it allows me to get air kills. Also run to spaa? I can have 10 ostwinds on my team and I can guarantee you not s single one would be killing planes only hunting tanks. There could be 20 planes and 1 tank and they would still hunt the tank
i bought this plane 2 days ago and ,now i'm kicking ass
i use armored targets rounds mostly they are very efective against both aircarft and enemy tanks
buti don't like using it in realistic battle
Your voice melts me ❤️w❤️
I enjoyed playing this at top tier aswell as at low tier.
Thunderbolt?
*A-10 FLASHBACKS*
I sometimes bring my thunderbolt into my 7.7 8.0 lineup
the only thing i hate about this game is that you need to get a tank kill before being able to spawn in a plane, like i just want to play ground attack but then i get stuck playing tanks for the whole match
Dude, War Thunderbolt was the best pun I’ve heard all week. Nice man.
i really like how he says "earcraft"
Hey, can you do a video about kpz70?😄
Lets play some ground battles!
*Sees 10 enemies up on the sky.
YEAH. Duck hunt simulator!
I'm a German player.
Which is why i keep 3 SPAA's and 1 heavy tank in my loadout.
The P-47 should be used as low altitude groundstrike, or high altitude dogfighting.
I cannot tell you how many times I’ve gotten away from any German aircraft by raw speed- they dive to chase me, only to know that I drag them into a hornets nest of P51’s and Spitfires.
PLEASE please do a video on the ZUT-37 or French Yak-3. Ly
Hiw to play:
1. Climb, dive miss and bail out
2. Stay low, be killed by literally anything
Edit: if y'all try to counter by claiming "multiple .50s" or "better armor than average fighters"
1. Those things are spread wider than my butt cheeks after playing the American tree
2. One metal plate, behind the engine. That's all it has. The pilot can die from any other angle instantly
How to play :
Get the p47-d25
Don't use it
Get the p47-d28 instead.
@@APFS-DS I'm trying dude but rank 3 is such a pain. I don't think I'll go any further with them
8 wing mounted .50s are amazing for strafing ground targets, and carrying 2500 pounds of bombs at 4.3-4.7 useless? If played properly in air RB the spread wing mounted 50s act exactly like the B-57 and enable you to volley fire long burst masses at long range. Not to mention your weight gives you a quick dive, albeit you won't hold the speed like other fighters.
What's your playing style?
I prefer heavy fighters/ support fighters with the American planes fit in pretty nicely for me, especially the p61.
@@APFS-DS I don't really use the p61 much but American CAS is American CAS. Hellcat and late shermans are great for cap for the SP.
