It’s amazing to see the emotion from Ika about her Rashaud, and how supportive Demetres is. But being a child myself, I just want to let Ika know we see almost everything, all the struggles and sacrifices and how you push through and make a way for your children from what seems to be out of nowhere. and yes kids will get older and it might seem like the memories of the struggle will be gone, especially because times are flourishing now but those memories are never going to leave you or Rashaud. It’s struggle times that produces those intimate moments that you’re going to alway remember. I believe Rashaud is even more appreciative now than ever because all the work that you put in is now finally paying off. You should be very proud of yourself. You’ve set a good example for your children to work hard and persevere and keep grinding. It’s inspiring to see.

As a child who was given everything, I can honestly say it wasn’t totally a good thing. It’s not that I am ungrateful, it’s just that I was so sheltered that I’ve had so much difficulty growing up in the real world. My parents went from giving me everything to totally cutting me off when I started working around 23- I did not know how to be a true adult even in my mid 20s.I matured slow and was a total late bloomer. I’m 30 now and only starting to find some financial footing, with a long way to go. It makes me realise, you learn nothing when everything is easily handed to you. Growth and maturity happens in the hardship and struggle.

Besides, whoever said depression is exclusive to the poor? Depression is a HUMAN thing. Don’t forget the celebrities who had money and fame and yet still committed suicide. Everyone has their own struggles and their own way in making sense of life and the world.
I have a similar story as you. I feel weaker in a way because I do not have so much ambition to work hard as others do. Also because I am still being sheltered I am really scared to miss our life and just be the most powerful version of myself.

I’m the daughter of a teen mother who didn’t have much growing up (or now but that’s ok 😂), and I just wanted to say, Ika, the only valuable thing that you can give your children is love and time. I can tell by the closeness that you all share, which is similar to me with my mother, that you filled his life with love and light and that’s what will keep him thriving. I never felt like I was missing anything and he wouldn’t either.

I think Rashaud has a greater appreciation for the privileges he has today because he wasn't spoilt rotten growing up. It teaches you so many valuable lessons about being humble, selfless and content which are key attributes for a respectful young man to have. Don't worry Ika, you raised him with the values of love and kindness as opposed to wealth and greed and you don't need to worry about what you could have done better. The greatest gift you have given him was showing him how to work for success and how it doesn't just fall in your lap. You gave him everything he needed to become who he is today and I'm sure he would say the same. He has been spoilt with an amazing Mum his entire life. Dem is right, everything happens for a reason. I feel for u Ika I have a son turning 20 at the end of this month and I feel the same too, my son is the same, he is so humble and appreciative and doesn’t have any demands he’s so independent and happy with everything. Like Dem said everything happens for a reason, Lil Rish Rish and my Shauny wouldn’t have been the same if they was born now, we did a great job no matter our experiences, because we raised sons who are happy with everything we did and do for them. Unlike many children of today.
We have showed them what it’s like to struggle which has turned them in to the young men they are now. And now we can spoil them because we are in a happy place with our life’s. Much love 💕😘

Ika, the young man that Rish turned out to be is testimony to you as a mother. I’m not a parent so I don’t know the feeling but it’s obvious that you provided for him, while maybe not materially at the time but always spiritually and beyond. They may grow up but they are always your babies and will always look to you for inspiration. Nobody can top a mother’s love.

it’s interesting hearing a mother’s perspective on what she feels bad for but from a kids perspective (i’m 17) all we want and really crave from our parents is love and attention and to feel like they actually care. kids value that more than monetary things. anytime i see rashaud i can’t believe he’s my age cause he seems so mature and just nice and respectful. trust me there’s some shitty disrespectful boys i go to school with many of them. you raised a good and nice son ika and that’s a testament to you! 💕

Some of us grew up with little and seeing your parents struggle was not fun. I promised myself to make sure that my kids will not have to suffer. My niece missed her prom cause of Covid but she had a party and barbecue with her friends and families. They had lots of fun, so it kinda of helped.

I'm the youngest of my siblings, so I was raised when my mom was older and better off financially. She used to always say she wished she had my oldest siblings when she could do better for them. Just like I tell her, I'll say to you that you had him when you were suppose to. Maybe you didn't have the maturity or money at the time to give him everything you had hoped. Hey guys ! I know so many ppl have commented on this but I really wanted to say it too. I did not grow up with a lot of money at all but I did not even realize that until I was grown up. My parents really gave us time, care and attention and I genuinely can say that I have had the happiest childhood. The moments spent together, the meals shared, the conversations, the laughter, those memories I will truly cherish as long as I live. When I think about it now I feel like I grew up even richer than the kids who had more money because of who my parents are and I would not change a thing. As a kid the only thing you really want is to spend time with your parents and feel their love, the materialistic things don't matter as much as people make it out to be. I look up to my parents so much and I can only hope to be as good as them to my futur family. Love y’all ❤️
