      It is widely documented that car manufacturers have long added something called "Reverse Inhibit" to make sure nothing happens.. pretty sure he looked this up before doing things. Nothing should happen on a modern manual car either... could damage your transmission on really old cars, however.

    there is something very important you should know about cameras and filming for smoothly slow motion on your action cams.
    In order to get nice slow motion on your slow moments that you want in a smooth way you have to record your video in 60fps and then in edit, you can slow it down 50% and that will give you 30fps which is still smooth and if you want a lil bit more then you can go till 24fps so you might reduce to 40% speed.
    Resume: Record in 60 fps always and for nice slow motion moments reduce footage to 50% for 30 fps or 40% for 24 fps.

  • @focus2004able
    @focus2004able 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    I have to admit that I thought the moment you shifted to reverse gear your gearbox would be history, that safety feature programmed into the latest car transmission control units is definitely a good thing as there is always the chance that reverse gear will accidentally be selected one way or another, and with a replacement gearbox costing $3000-$4000AU for my 2010 Holden cruize there's no way i'd try it, it's unlikely it would have that safety feature.

    • @TheTurpin1234

    • @SpoopyGamer
      @SpoopyGamer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's theoretically possible to put a really old gearbox without a syncromesh into reverse if your strong enough to put enough force into it, which is why i suggested a really really cheap disposable car because it will most likely be old enough to not have anyform of protection

    • @TheTyisawesome
      @TheTyisawesome 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      no you can force it in gear... just pull with both hand and it will go in followed by an awful grinding sound and metal fragments being thrown around

      I ground the gear a lil by almost putting it into reverse instead of 4th in my 07 eclipse when I was first learning how to drive it so yes it's definitely possible.

  • @thevdubin
    @thevdubin 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1592

    you have an electronic transmission. the trans controller refused to select reverse because of the vehicle's speed. if you had an older auto trans with direct selection you would have locked up the wheels, possibly snapping the trans output shaft and crashing because of the sudden change in velocity of the wheels. in a rear wheel drive car it would have been similar to just pulling the ebrake and locking up the wheels with respect to the cars reaction to the gear selection. at low speeds you would have just lunched your transmission and probably not crashed. a manual is not that different in results. I am very shocked that you tried this on a public highway.

    • @maxneale6334
      @maxneale6334 6 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      thevdubin bro if you were doing 100kmh its unlikely youd even lock up the wheels of a front wheel drive car, youd just blow the inside of the transmission everywhere and keep rolling. On a rear wheel drive car it might lock up the wheels briefly, however it is more likely just to smash everything and keep rolling

    I inadvertently selected Reverse on my 2016 Amarok Highline yesterday and panicked! I immediately reselected Drive, but selecting Reverse didn't cause damage, the car simply continued, but I don't know whether the transmission went into Neutral or not, or whether the reverse camera came on. I was too busy at the time thinking expensive thoughts! Thanks for doing this for us auto users.

      Ford has a transmission control module that monitors several different inputs such as vehicle speed and above a certain speed the module will not allow the shift solenoids to engage into reverse so as not to destroy the transmission. Don't try this EVER, especially with older vehicles, as not all vehicles have this safeguard. You've been warned.

    I did experienced it when I accidentally put my car (Pajero 2005 model) into Reverse mode when driving on a bridge going down. I got this habit of going Neutral when descending on a bridge. What happens is the car engine stop and all the warning lights turned on and I have to glide the car to the side of the road. I thought my car broke, I'm concern that I damage my transmission or what. But eventually I restart the car and to may surprise, still working for now. But need to have it check with my mechanic to see if it damage something. Unfortunately for old model car they don't have fail safe features like yours.

    The difference is in older cars when you moved the selector you physically moved the lever on the transmission. In a modern car when you move the selector (or any switch) you are sending a "request" to the computer that you'd like to change gear. If the computer determines its detrimental to the system it won't let you do it. That's why the fuel door or trunk won't open if you accidentally hit the button while at speed.

    I've unintentionally done this on a car that doesn't have the safety lockout.
    I used to drive an old '85 Camaro, which had a purely hydraulic/mechanical transmission with no fancy electronics, and my friend decided to screw with me while driving by putting in neutral randomly while driving.
    Well, one time he pushed a little too hard and put it in reverse while I was cruising at 35 MPH, and it did engage reverse.
    I saw him moving so I had let off the throttle, so it just made a 'KLUNK' noise and stalled the engine (and without the engine running, no hydraulic pressure) so it just dropped into neutral and coasted. After glaring bullets at my friend for a bit, I just put it in neutral, started the engine, put it back in drive, and continued driving as normal without even ever coming to a stop. Still worked fine a few years later when I sold it.
    So, even without this safety feature, it still might not be all that exciting. I definitely wouldn't recommend trying it (and no way I'd try it on the highway, or with my foot down on the accelerator) though.

    • @jackfletcher5943
      @jackfletcher5943 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did this about 20 years ago on a fleet car. Reached for the radio, slammed it from drive to reverse at about 45mph. Engine cut off and I coasted to a stop. It restarted and ran fine, although there was an audible 'clunk' when changing gears after that.

      I can't speak for a modern car, but I was once letting my 96 f350 roll forward in neutral (engine was off), and I accidently put it in park while going a couple mph, and got a horrid grinding noise that I think was the parking gear skipping. I don't know if a newer trans would do the same thing, or even if that truck would do it at a higher speed. I'm fairly sure a modern car won't even let you move the shifter to park while moving.

    I’ve done the push start one on my 2017 Hyundai and it’s the same. Going 67 mph and the car doesn’t turn off. That’s a safety feature. Also when driving below 5 mph it turns off which is another safety feature in case if your car is on fire and you got into an accident where the car smokes and you can push the button to turn it off without pressing the brake pedal.

    What happens if you pull the (physical) hand brake at 100 mph?

    • @piyushdahiya3696

      You will fucking crash. Don't you got common sense dumbass!! Do you want him to die? Go do it yourself and that might be your last ride.

    • @piyushdahiya3696
      @piyushdahiya3696 7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Twinkle Baby that is why he said 'physical handbrake'. If you pull physical handbrake in a moving vehicle, it skids and their are 99% chances that you will crash. This happens because handbrake locks the rear tires which allows the vehicle to skid. NEVER DO THIS AS IT IS TOO RISKY.

    • @jaidonrymer3621
      @jaidonrymer3621 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nothing will happen, the hand brake isn't all that strong that's why some people (generally older ones) can accidently drive their cars with it left on

    • @piyushdahiya3696
      @piyushdahiya3696 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      jaidon rymer i have read all these warnings in the 'manual' of my car. Also if you will see all these racers, when they had to skid or turn all they use is the handbrake itself. Also in the gaming world, like Need For Speed, when you press the key for handbrake, the car skids tremendously!

    • @piyushdahiya3696
      @piyushdahiya3696 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not in a mood to argue on these things. Again, it might be different in different cars.

  • @wonnie46403
    @wonnie46403 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Should have tried at slower speeds. But that's a great thing to know for newer vehicles. I know for fact older cars would tear the trans right up and it have been a bad day for you. But what a great safety feature on newer cars . also would be nice to know the year of your car..

    • @robertcharmers3264

      EXACTLY, he would need to hit the gas in order for the reverse setting to take effect.

    • @alu7886
      @alu7886 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      nah dumbass. you don't neeed to hit the gas in reverse to make the car go in reverse. it will start moving in reverse the second your foot off the brake. however.. like so many people have already pointed out, this is a very modern car and the computer overrides it going in reverse while driving as a safety feature.

    • @dsandoval9396

      Same thing I thought (about safety features in a new[er] car), how about and older automatic? And by older I mean 20y's or more. I remember doing it in an older Camery (by accident) at low speeds and that thing started to jerk pretty bad, quickly put it in neutral but I still think if I'd kept it in reverse I would have done something to royally damage my car.

    • @mattymag2394
      @mattymag2394 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      hochhaul can you explain what's unreliable about a 99 bmw? in the last 5 years of owning mine I've needed an ignition coil, CPS and water pump... so about $200 in parts for an 18 year old bimmer. mine needs new rear springs but after 18 years that's a good run for springs...
      and there's a reason that you can move the selector from L (or 2 or 3) thru D and into N without pulling the button on the selector... so you don't smash the tranny into reverse... you can only access reverse while pulling the "trigger" on the shifter.

    • @Whiterin
      @Whiterin 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not wrong about the old BMW tbh. BMW makes great cars, they just don't age that well. After spending $14,000 in two years trying to keep mine going, it died and I decided to get a cheap Toyota until I can save up for something better instead of spending thousands fixing whatever was wrong with my 540i this time. Sad to see it go that way, but it is what it is.

    Hello, recently there was a issue regarding the HYUNDAI PALLISADE SUV vehicle in korea. The crash was happened in down hill. The dirver put gear in reverse to pull back her car from the parking space, and then she pressed reverse again(she thought she pressed drive button. Pallisade has button-style gear knob) and went down a hill. She heard a loud noise in car, but she ignored it. And, she kept went down the hill and used brake once to say hello to friend that was walking by. She kept down the hill, and then she noticed that the vehicle's brake does not work anymore. Finally, her car rolled over.
    What I want to ask is that can you do this test with automatic vehicle which has button style gear knob?Thank you
