    Pretty much everything you said applies to all National Parks...reservations go quickly, dry camping, hard to accommodate bigger rigs, dogs allowed but not on trails, etc. The more popular ones like Yosemite are always hard to get into, but I’ve also had luck with snagging a reservation that was cancelled last minute.

    The next few years camping in Yosemite will be EXTREMELY difficult to find. Especially with all of Toulumne being closed.
    I know that when rehab is complete, it will likely be a much cleaner better experience.
    I suggest, for summer adventures in the Toulumne area, "base camp" in Lee Vinning, or June Lake area. Many places there for large and medium rv.
    Or, become a backpacker. Hitch a ride, and hike into the wild. Although often the back country permissions are also restricted.
    There are other vehicle campsite options, and I will keep those to myself, in order to reverence their unique and unspoiled nature.

    Wow, great research and inside scoop on Yosemite camping! The tunnels with 10 foot something clearance at the curb convinced us to camp outside the park. The Yosemite bus service gets through the tunnels by hugging the middle line but we didn't want to risk it. Expect lots of driving because the park is huge with many incredible views.

    We loved being there for 10 days last fall. We were just outside of the park a bit and had great hookups.

    Very similar to Acadia National Park except that reservations opened up 60 days before any given date so you could not reserve a site earlier than that. Also in 2021 all the campgrounds were at half capacity. Normally the Blackwoods campground is open for winter walk in camping, but the park has closed it completely for winter 2021/22. All private campgrounds outside the park are closed for the winter, so you can't come to Acadia National Park this winter and camp.

    This is fantastic! Been doing all this research planning for next summer and you've summed it all up great. Thanks so much for all of this work. Just a heads up, please double check on that "7:00pm 5 months in advance" release time. I had 7:00 AM in my notes. I'll be going back to find my source on that. I want to be sure I'm logged in at the right moment to snag those sites! Good luck to all and happy travels!

I'm so not trying to call you out on a mistake, just trying to be helpful. :) Anyone logging in at 7:00pm will sadly be too late! THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THIS INFO. It is so well organized and helpful and very timely for my summer planning!

    We have tried to get in to John Pennekamp for years - their website has 11 months book out - we were up yesterday at 5AM (worried we might oversleep) to book a site at 8AM...and within seconds the sites were gone - guess my fingers are not fast enough...we had the website up - and ready to reserve - but no sites available before the arrival date even loaded for me. So sad, but we are going to keep trying and eventually we will get lucky :~)

    Great information thank you, one thing if I can suggest is height requirements. In newer 5th wheels, I am app 13’6” high and a lot of parks especially state parks newer higher end 5th wheels will scrap their sides and roofs. We have experienced this in Myrtle Beach State Park a few. Months back. . Your current coach is shorter at I think 12’

    So basically people who work their ass off all year can’t take a vacation to Yosemite because most people can not plan months ahead for a trip to Yosemite. Heck I can’t even be online to make a reservation at that time. I’m working. There should be a big parking lot just outside the entrance of each park entrance and the building to accept all first come first serve business to the park. US citizens should take priority over foreigners. Only a limited block of campsite should be allowed to be giving to foreigners.

    • @n6nvr
      @n6nvr 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These campgrounds were designed primarily for tent camping and then adapted to smaller trailers. Larger unit spaces have been created, but the campgrounds are space limited and you can get two spots in the spaces needed for a 40+ footer. Plus the roadways in the camping areas weren't designed for larger vehicles. The high country can be closed for 5-7 months every year and snow melt season brings big waterfalls and potential flooding. The last time we went, we bit the bullet and stayed at the Wawona Inn.

    • @jeffolson2146
      @jeffolson2146 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a 40 ft 5th wheel and camp in Wawona often. It's within the park and about a 40 minute drive into Yosemite Valley. There is a height restriction that keeps me from getting our trailer into the valley through the south entrance (FWY 41).
