- This is my first look around of an EV and it is a Mini Countryman. It doesn't resemble what a Mini is meant to be as it is a massive car. I wish companies wouldn't take the name of an iconic retro vehicle and totally change it. It seems the way of the world now. Let me know what you think.

We had an EV , we gave it back after 18 months , it value went from £36,000 to £14,000 and 4 months on it still hasn’t sold on to a new owner.
I would never buy a electric car
Was expecting the hud display to break with you expecting it to move 😂
Its $56000 here in Canada for that mini, Ill stick to my 2020 Ram 1500 Sport fully loaded

Never beat a diesel engine

I'd take the old Mini Countryman over the new one any day.
Not for me personally, I like to feel like a man whilst changing gears and hearing an engine
...and in five to seven years time, when all of those electronic bits start to go wrong, you have to bin it due to repair costs, not so green then, eh?
I traded my 6 year old electric Renault in last year for a new MG and the battery still had 97% state of health when handed them the keys. It was still good for another 100K miles. You shouldn't believe everything you read on the internet unless you've owned one.
Good video Martin and definitely another reminder that I don’t need or want an Ev in my life anytime soon. I could rant all day about these gadgets on the road rather than a vehicle but I won’t add to what others have said.
Love the way it dropped from 148 mile range to 147 from just driving it a few metres on your drive😂😂😂

My worry would be if/when it randomly bursts into flames!
Cars are a lot bigger than cars in the 70s and 80s just try putting a car in a garage from a house that was built in the 60s, 70s and the 80s they just don't fit in anymore.

Diesel reliable? Are you having a laugh? And Peugeot Puretec, or Ford Ecoboost? Add in crappy electronics to complete the madness! Modern cars are a joke!!
@@elliottpeters2996 all modern vehicles are useless, I have a 22 year old van no air bags no abs wind down windows all the good stuff so yeah it’s reliable
Plus if they do have a hiccup you can repair them unlike full electric that locks you out if your lucky enough to have a drive to charge the bloody thing !
Becky has had a fully electric mini cooper for over 6 months, in conjunction with octopus electricity for interactive charging it’s saved us loads of money already. I’ve been limited it’s super sonic when you put your foot down ( tyres wouldn’t last long if I drove it all of the time 😂)very happy with it great bit of kit . But saying that I still have a 2.4 diesel if I need to get a engine noise experience 👍the window washer bottle top up is all I need to worry about 👍
X2 bonnet lock, I see that on many new cars, yes pull it twice.
Mini that's the size of a old range rover, makes no sense.
It is the car version of people calling their Great Dane 'Tiny'.
They should call it a maxi now
It is so big because it is actually an X1 underneath. Same floor plan/inner structure 👍

The vehicle still has a cooling system with anti freeze and cooling fan, that’s what the bottle was for, it cools the high voltage batteries.
One of the nicest scrap cars I've seen.

FYI the lens’s on the headlights are polycarbonate. Way stronger than Perspex but yes still a plastic.
I agree phil i have a skoda enyaq and its brilliant
B is the braking mode, uses regen for additional braking when you take your foot off the go faster pedal.

I think I prefer the hybrids, family member Kia has a 48v battery and a 3 cylinder petrol engine and it goes like a 2ltr mondeo 😃
That faded door fabric looks ugly to me, that's today's designers for you. Some of the interior looked nice, I really like the light coloured seats, inviting and uplifting.
Don’t think you would be able to do any repairs on this at home apart from brakes and tyres

Electric not for me! I am also old school, love manual gears and wont drive my husbands automatic, his car is lovely but prefer being the passenger. I do worry for the older generations as petrol and diesel get phased out because at only 56 I am not keen to embrace the changes. I will stick to my Audi A1 diesel as long as possible. Interesting to learn that headlights are now plastic.
Martin please be careful under the bonnet, you could get electrocuted, my husband is a mechanic and says you need special training on how to disarm them for safety reasons ❤

Well said Martin, range anxiety is a major issue for many, Toyota has been selling a Hydrogen car in the UK for some years, Honda has had one too.
Toyota is first in hydrogen power with its mirai as far as I’m aware and pioneered the hybrid

Best thing I would say is you havnt got one so how do you know.i bought a brand new electric skoda enyaq and had a power supply fitted to my house and its a fantastic car I've gone from 30.00 a week to 10.00 a week to run it

Interesting but I will stick to petrols.
The original Mini like the VW Beatle , Fiat 500, Citroen 2 CV,Renault 4 had tons of character were affordable for the common man and they were compact, sadly everything the modern Mini isn’t . Hydrogen can power a combustion engine also electric fuel cell car.
Electric vehicles are good only for towns & cities within 20 miles radius drive,,,
Did you see a new ford capri was launched yesterday . Electric of course , looks nothing like the old. Capri from pics I have seen, more dub by the looks of things . Not easy to work on Nartin is it without the computer telling you any faults . At least it has a handbrake our car doesn’t have handbrake as such it goes automatically in and off . Worries me on hill starts , shouldn’t be an issue but in very steep hill when traffic behind you I worry . Hehe
Yes on our it tells you your speed and the area speed limit that’s good as sometimes speed limits aren’t what you expect are they . But I still wouldn’t have an electric car . Oh the sos if you press that it calls emergency services so don’t press that . Ours has automatic parking but we don’t use that as you only operate the pedals and the car does the rest . I would panic a bit . Hehe neither of us use that function , guess what your used to .
You have done well Martin when ours went in for its first service we had a courtesy electric car all that was available it took a. It if working out the different things it was telling us to do . Think that didn’t help our dislike either .

You are like me, i look at any new car that arrives at my house, this is not a car for me either. No real way of fixing it yourself. A throw away car I'd say, drive it til it's fooked and throw it away 🙄👍🇮🇪
Let's be honest, BMW fucked the mini brand up, the whole idea was big on the inside small on the outside. The design of the car has gone from amazing to dogshit
Martin & Sharon please don't waste money on an EV - they are a complete waste of time. Spend your money on things you are going to to enjoy like holidays. EVs lose HALF their value the minute you drive them of the forecourt , If you don't believe me just take a any new EV reg on the road and enter into any car value app.

i hate the way manufacturers try to make EVs not look like EVs, they love the cheap looking non functional plastic grills on the front, BMW are the worst. some even put fake exhausts on them.

Absolutely horrible inside what have done to the dash looks cheap and nasty, no wonder everyone is going back to petrol and diesel and the hidden cost of running a electric car is unbelievable, go and buy a tyre for one shocking lol
I'm on my second electric car now. I have an MG5 long range now and I love it.
My daughter lives in Aberdeen and I can go visit her no problem on a single charge from Glasgow if I drive in eco mode. It's not for everyone yet though. For us, it's brilliant and ultra cheap to run as we have solar panels at home and can charge it for free when the sun is out. They can and will be a challenge for those that can't get a home charger fitted and benefit from the cheap off peak energy (I pay 7p per KWh overnight on my EV tariff).
Just to add, in my day. a Mini would have fitted into the boot of that new Mini :) UNder the bonnet is the inverter and motor. The water is for coolant / anti freeze which the same as a normal car. It's part of the battery thermal management system of the car.

I have add five Mini Cooper S petrol ones this one we’ve got now I can honestly say it better than the last four I wouldn’t buy anything else I’ve had a countryman Cooper petrol brilliant CAR the new petrol version a traffic looking car 👍👍👏👏⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

No EV for me, I could give you 20 reasons to start, but heck they may be OK for some folks, different strokes for different folks., I work in the car industry, I've worked on many brands of EV, I see them as a step back, I think Hybrids are a far better car.
What a horrible looking mini! Wish manufacturers would think up some new names and stop spoling the heritage... ford are about to launch a new electric Capri would you believe! Stopped the fiesta then ruined the puma and mustang now they are doing the same with the capri 😢😢. I am sticking to my smokey old T4 thank you very much 😂😂😂
Dont read all the anti EV garbage in the press Martin, you need the actual facts. EVs arnt tor everyone but they are a better car all round and the present and future. Check out Robert Llewellyn's Fully Charged and Everything Electric channels if you want to be well informed ( the mini is one of the worst EVs for range by the way)
